ReikiOne Newsletter Archived issues of this newsletter are available for viewing at http://www.reikione.com/news/. Today, I've been thinking about a boy I grew up with. His name was Billy. My older brother used to tease him with "Billy's so sillie he'll marry a girl named Millie." Billy lived next door to me. He was a few years younger. He loved to take black and white photos and would develop them himself in a makeshift darkroom he'd created in his basement. After high school graduation, he moved to San Francisco to pursue a career as a photographer. I had left Michigan two years earlier to move to Indiana and lost touch with the youngest son of my neighbors, a blonde-haired blue-eyed boy who really was silly :o] A few years later, I heard he was sick. His mom insisted he had cystic fibrosis and she would fly out to California to care for him. A few years after that, he died. He was twenty eight and had succumbed to complications from the AIDS virus. That was ten or twelve years ago. Going through some old writing of mine, I found the note I had included in the sympathy card I sent his parents: -------Death is not the end. It is a change in our perception only, for the soul lives on. Forever.------- Comments or thoughts? Email Teri at teri@reikione.com. Karen: Thank you so much for your Reiki One Newsletter. I look forward to it every week. Andrea: I would like to contact Katherine who wrote: Katherine: I am a RMT Usui and Karuna. I have also studied some Japanese Reiki techniques that are intuitive in nature. I am also an Animal Communicator. I use both intuitive readings for pets/animals and energy work together. They make for fascinating experiences. So if there are more questions about animal communication I would love to offer assistance. Thank you for this forum of discussion. Bless you! - - - Regarding her animal communication. I have an old dog that comes up with a new problem each day and I would like some help with knowing the right time to let her go. (ed note: katherine, if you send me your email i'll forward it to andi). Nancy, on last week's Reflection: once again it is always a delight to receive the weekly newsletter. I had to chuckle as I read your summary of the Memorial Day "holiday" weekend. The wonderful thing about you is that you are REAL and you have your struggles and challenges just like the rest of us and those "aha" moments come through along with trying to find the humor in the situation. I hope your home has regained some semblance of order :-) Sara: Thank you so much for your efforts in facilitating such a wonderful newsletter. I very much appreciate the forum for learning new things about Reiki from other practitioners. I am also tremendously enjoying the ongoing conversation regarding the relationship so many of us Reiki Masters have with Yoga practice. I find your humorous quips very applicable to my own practice. Lee: You do a great job on your newsletter which I have really enjoyed for some time now. FYI: I am interested in Reiki shares here in the Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area and so I have e-mailed the Cindi on your listings several times but she has never once responded. You may want to verify her e-mail address and/or possibly remove her from your listing. If she doesn't respond to e-mails and she doesn't list an address and/or a telephone number then how are you supposed to reach her? (ed note: Cindi - if you're out there, send me a note and i'll pass it on to Lee). Comments? Suggestions? Complaints? They don't have to be about the newsletter, just about Reiki or other healing topics. Be heard! Send them in! teri@reikione.com Scott: I have been practicing Reiki for almost 18 months now and at various times I have received distant healing from what I believed to be a well meaning unknown source or Reiki colleague. However, I have been recently been informed that I have been attracting Dark Energy from somewhere which is connected to the flat that I live in, so could you or any of my fellow readers suggest a way of differentiating between this good and bad energy, or possibly blocking this energy altogether. Your thoughts or suggestions would be gratefully received! From Bonnie: In reference to Scott's question: Scott, we can draw healing energy to us the same as we can draw negative energy to us. You felt that the energy coming to you was healing energy - accept it as that, no matter what the source (i.e. a well meaning colleague, universe etc). The way to differentiate is to ask yourself what the energy is. Just say to yourself: "Is this positive energy?" If the response that you get is yes, then all is well. If t he response that you get is no, then you need to clear the energy in your surroundings (and clear yourself). You can do this by using white light, by smudging, by prayer ... any number of means. Scott, unless you are experiencing feelings of confusion, tiredness etc, I would say that you are not attracting negative energy. However, by holding the thought that your flat is attracting this energy - you draw it to you! Take a moment each morning to surround yourself with white light, as a form of psychic protection. And when you start having thoughts that you feel are not yours - mentally tell yourself that these are not your thoughts, and release them. Sending you light and love. :) ~~~~~~ From Yvette: Hooray!, a skeptic! If someone told you that jumping off a bridge would turn you into the Pillsbury dough boy, would you believe that right away? Of course not. Your skepticism is healthy and a part of you. My advice is to wait. Don't worry about doing Reiki II. I myself never even thought about getting my Reiki I until the offer just fell into my lap one day, and I am not actively seeking a level II attunement. If it gets here, fine, if not, I'll deal with that too. Do not let yourself get caught in the trap of right and wrong, yes or no, good or bad. By doing that, you are just being a little hamster on the treadmill of your mind's ups and downs. Just be okay with what your skepticism, and explore it more fully. Good luck! From Karen: Hi John. Crumbs, where to begin? There's a lot to answer in your posting and I'm sure the points you raise will be well recognized by the majority of people in this forum. Self-doubt, confusion and 'tests' are all part and parcel of our journey, so please know that you're not alone! First of all, congratulations on taking Reiki 1 - the fun starts here! Seriously, the fact that you are seeking answers and haven't just dismissed Reiki as a load of hocus means something. As does the fact that you decided to take Reiki in the first place. I've provided a fairly detailed response below (brevity isn't one of my skills!), but basically I would say please hold back on Reiki 2 and don't let anyone push you forward before you're ready; speak to some ethical Reiki practitioners and avoid the others like the plague - keep reading, and also read some of the archive responses of this newsletter on Teri's site, they will really help you. Okay, deep breath: First of all, I fully recognize your skepticism. I was keen to take Reiki One but following my attunement I also felt a bit of a fraud during my first 'hands on' session. The fable of the Emperor's New Clothes crossed my mind on more than one occasion, I can tell you! Looking back, I was desperately waiting for something to happen - to see, feel or experience something. Waiting for whoever I was treating to give me some positive feedback. I needed some results to reassure myself that I could 'do it' - which is part of human nature, I think. So, you're certainly not alone with having doubts. However, although these doubts are natural, they do not mean that Reiki does not work - not by a long shot. I think you know this yourself, but are seeking reassurance, and some 'proof'. My advice would be this: relax and have faith in the Reiki. Trust that it's working, and even if you can't see visible results, know that it's working on a very deep level. Also, on a practical level, you may want to try this next time you're treating someone (even if it's just yourself): tune in confidently and clearly, then try and get out of the way! What do I mean by 'get out of the way'? First of all, clear your mind of any niggling doubts - if they come along, fight them off! Don't wait for something to happen, just enjoy the moment. Relax. Now, imagine yourself as a strong, robust pipe or water tap. Picture in your mind's eye the Reiki energy flowing through you like water. You are the pipe, Reiki is the water. Don't try getting in the way and helping the 'water' along - you'll only hinder it. It knows where to go and what to do, how fast or how slow to go. As you become more experienced, your Reiki Master may give you alternative advice, but for the time being this may help. Secondly, if I were you, I'd slow things down a bit. Don't be in too much of a rush to take Reiki 2 (it's interesting to note that business reasons have prevented you from taking it thus far, and I think there's a reason for that. When the pupil is ready, the teacher will appear!) John, you are now a Reiki healer and you're not a fraud - you have an opportunity to help many people, including yourself. It's fantastic, or as my US friends would say: awesome. It's important to work on 'self' for some time after receiving Reiki One. It's a powerful attunement and everyone needs time to let the energy go to work on themselves before they receive the next attunement. It doesn't happen overnight and it's a mistake to rush the process. What's the hurry? If you're hurrying, ask yourself why. Some may disagree with me here, but I wouldn't worry too much about using the symbols at this stage (some of them have been placed in your subconscious already during the attunement and you are already using them to good effect). I'm not knocking the symbols, and they need to be treated with utmost respect -but know that you can achieve some exceptional results without them for the time being. So please relax and know the Reiki is working for you, John. Understand that you are now a Reiki healer and you can help many people. Concentrate on 'healing' yourself during this time between Reiki 1 and 2 and don't be in any rush - wait about a year if you can. Your patience now will pay dividends later. Keep reading, keep asking questions and it'll fall into place. Hope this makes sense and helps in some way, and hope to hear more from you on this forum. This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue. Last week's question came from Sue: I would like some feedback from people re: sending reiki to past issues/events. I have sent reiki to future events and have sent it to myself to be received at the appropriate time and for the highest good of all, for example, when I know I will be entering a stressful situation at work. I have found it to work well and I have enjoyed it. I'm not quite sure when or why you might send reiki to what has already past. I'm interested to hear people's thoughts, experiences and suggestions for practice on the subject. Marilyn: I am an RM/T with about 5 years Reiki experience. During my training,I was taught that energy sent to a past event doesn't affect the event itself, but rather the energy it presently carries for me or the person whose event I'm treating. A story one of my teachers tells seems to indicate that it may affect both: a student of hers, a nun, called her in ecstatic tears one day to report that she had sent Reiki to Christ at His crucifixion and had felt an enormously powerful energetic response that was still affecting her. I was taught to treat past events by the distance technique, or by using as a surrogate any position on a client's body which seems to be strongly affected by the past event. Although I haven't had occasion for much direct experience with sending into the past myself, I have heard several encouraging reports from others, and hope to learn more from your responses on this topic.I am an RM/T with about 5 years Reiki experience. Sara: Sue, How wonderful that you are exploring the timelessness of Reiki! In response to your question about sending Reiki to past events, I have this to say: Reiki is not linear. Therefore, wherever or whenever you "send" it, it will heal to the highest good. Almost the instant I received the first Second Degree attunement, I knew that I would be sending Reiki to my past. It came to me in a flash of certainty that I had done this already. I had a very tumultuous childhood, replete with violence and fear and yet, somehow, I always managed to rally my spirits. In thinking back, I can recall certain times when I felt that I could take no more and felt that another moment of pain or fear would surely kill me. And then, peace and love and support would flow over me. I knew, even as a very young child that this was something "someone" was doing for me. I didn't know who, all I knew was that it was someone who loved me and someone who was powerfully with me in that moment. Within hours of coming home from my Second Degree class, I sent Reiki to myself. I felt guided to send it to a time when I was about nine and my little sister had just been born. There was a particular event not pertinent to relay, which had brought me and my entire family to a volatile point. In the midst of the tumult, I began to feel a certain sense of elation. I was removed from the situation, not in the sense of dissociation but in a sense where I understood the temporary nature of the crisis and understood there to be a meaning to it. It was the happiest I had ever felt in my life. I sent Reiki to me in that time. The child me received that energy. I have validated this experience by sending Reiki not only to my own past but to the pasts of others to help them prepare for the crucial moment when they will be ready to heal. I believe that sending Reiki to the past provides the recipient or the event with the crystal-clear energy of love. It will not excuse that person or event from the process, it maximizes the effect that person or event will wish to manifest from that process. I have sent Reiki into the distant future too and just the other day, had a wonderful experience of speaking for a brief time with the me of my twilight years. She/Me has been sending Reiki to me, which I am receiving now. David: In 1983, I was attacked on the street just after midnight in Georgetown, a "nice" neighborhood of D.C. Since learning Reiki II, I have sent distant healing to myself at that time and place. At the time, I recall hearing a voice that everything would be ok and to sit down and relax. I was told to breathe and that all would be well. I believe that that voice was my future self. In Reiki, sometimes the timelines get mixed up, I think.... Next week's question: comes from Nancy: Last evening I was doing reiki on my 23 year old daughter (she has a tremendous amount of stress, issues and baggage in her life - uh, sort of like the rest of us...) and I was doing a full body treatment on her. As I was working on her lower back (around the adrenal area) she developed a sensation of nausea and this stayed with her for several hours. She never actively vomited and there was no vertigo involved. This morning the symptoms were gone. Do you or your readers have any thoughts or insight about this occurrence? My instinct tells me that there was probably some detox beginning to occur, but this was never addressed in any of my reiki training classes. I would appreciate any feedback you might have. TIPS FOR MAKING THE TRANSITION FROM ONLINE TO REAL LIFE 1. Wear Pants - Countless attempts to better oneself have been cut tragically short by leaving the house without proper attire. 2. Use Your Real Name - Sorry, but nobody will be impressed if you go by the name "2HOT4U", "Monarch" or "SATAN666". Names like "Steve" or "Greg" are just fine. 3. The Telephone is Your Friend - Hear that ringing sound? Pick up the phone. Now speak into it. 4. If Your Car Crashes, You Cannot Simply Reboot It 5. Do Not Be Surprised That Nobody Looks Like Gillian Anderson 6. Do Not Flame People - Comparing everyone you disagree with to unclean primates will not win you friends. In fact, you may get into a physical fight. If so, the next tip may be of help. 7. That Red Stuff is Called Blood - Not to be confused with ketchup, blood is what keeps you alive. If you are leaking, the real world offers human tech-support in the form of doctors and hospitals. ~~Reiki Experience~~
John: I have seen people get good advice in your columns and I would like some of the same. I am quite prepared to be told that my problems are of my own mind making. Nothing else. Yet there are, I submit, other factors involved . . . . Although rather skeptical I decided to take up Reiki. I was very fortunate in that I took Reiki 1 with a highly experienced and dedicated trainer who was as interested in her students as she was in what she was teaching. I was also a part of a small group of interesting and fascinating students. So, despite my skepticism I enjoyed the course. . . . I know that the longer I put off doing Reiki 11 the less likely I will ever do it. But I can't waste more money on something that I cannot control nor experience. Nor can I understand the need of symbols for a force which should be there without any need of symbols. Any advice from your people ?
