ReikiOne Newsletter Archived issues of this newsletter are available for viewing at http://www.reikione.com/news/. Talk about NOT practicing what you preach! We have a three day weekend here in the states, Memorial Day, and I had thought I would spend the time getting caught up on some stuff around my house and getting ready for a Second Degree class I'm teaching Tuesday night. Instead of following my first instincts and taking care of existing projects, I decided to take on a few more. I've never liked the kitchen in my house but we don't have the means to replace it right now. Was feeling bored and, rather than take a nap, picked up a paintbrush and started painting over the wood. Kinda liked what I was doing, but then I had to finish it! Hadn't planned on it taking a full day . . . . Next, I thought I could quickly take the vanity/sink out of my masterbath and replace it (original to the house and way ugly too). My oldest son even offered to come help. I spent half the day Saturday running around looking for new cabinets and all the fixings. The other half was spent finishing my kitchen painting. Sunday I had to put the cabinets together. Which is one of the reasons this newsletter is a day late. They were all damaged, all three of them. Spent today, Monday, taking everything back, buying something else and then finding out what I bought has a problem and needs to be exchanged. So, no water in the bathroom tonight. Probably not tomorrow either. Sigh. Good thing we have another bathroom to use. But, my point to all this - the practicing what you preach part - is that I'm always the first to say, "Just relax and do what you can." If I've learned nothing else in Al-Anon, and through my other spiritual training (including Reiki), it's that if something's difficult, then most likely I'm not supposed to do it right now. I also know better than to not follow my gut instincts. Ah well, I plowed ahead anyway, slapping away the warnings flashing in my brain like a mosquito. I did not accomplish one thing I had planned to - and made several messes in the process, creating more work for myself. Bottom line? Relax and do what you can. Stay in the moment. Don't let yourself get over-extended, too hungry, or too tired. Follow your intuition. Trust your first instinct. Oh yeah - and if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Comments or thoughts? Email Teri at teri@reikione.com. Last week's Reflection generated many comments - here's what some of you had to say! Diane: Teri I know exactly what you mean, I have spent a year writing my Reiki One & Two manuals editing & re writing & finally put out in the universe it is complete & I have got to get out of this fear to teach! I am not sure where it came from but believe it's roots were in feeling I had to be perfect. Then I came to realize I just had to "get out of the way" and trust the universe the those intended for me to teach Reiki will come & alas I had the most wonderful experience as an acquaintance from work & her husband were my first official students & it was such a wonderful experience. Sometimes all we have to do is trust. MP: Thank you for sharing. This coming weekend I will be doing my Reiki IIIB master teacher degree. Really looking forward to it ! I would love to teach Reiki. However ... I have my doubts and fears. I don't even seem to meet people who want a Reiki treatment, how will I ever find people who want to learn Reiki ? Maybe when the time is right, the pieces of the puzzle will fall in place. Your message struck a familiar note. Ruth: You are so right THE UNIVERSE CALLS AND SOMETIMES WE LISTEN! So many possible roads to travel -- we ask which is the right one having not heard the call of the Universe. We have to slow down and smell the roses, hear the ticking of the clock, and just be. Only then will we really know. Barbara: I dont get to read all of your messages, but i recently just read the one today, wow do i ever understand what you are saying. I myself as a reiki master get confused with listening to others with less conscience, but not to judge as we are taught, but maybe one day they will come to realize. Gill: Great to receive your newsletter and it has really hit home today, I was recently also told I am a "teacher". and I am a Reiki Master Teacher but haven't taught anyone for a while. Today I was privileged to teach someone and what a brilliant experience it has been. Alan was amazed at the Reiki energy and I was so pleased that he had this immediate connection with the Universe. It has given me the boost that I needed to get Reiki out to more people. I have also been asked to teach Aromatherapy/ and Reiki by a healing center recently so this seems to be my wake up call! Michael: What a coincidence! I just did my Yoga teacher cert. this weekend, a big step for me as well. The fact that you had doubts tells me that you will be an insightful and dedicated instructor. I take this position just as seriously. I mean this in a very humble sense, but as a good Yoga instructor is in a way a spiritual facilitator. And at the same time learning has begun on a new level. ~~~~~~ Riverlight shares: I received my Reiki Master training/attunements this last weekend and was truly in a state of bliss! I returned to the "real" world today to a job I don't enjoy (oh to be able to do Reiki for a living!!), and have been struggling. I thought my meditations on light and love would help but by the end of the day... I can tell my energy is doing backflips so that's part of the mood. But just reading through the postings you emailed us brought me back to center, especially the note referencing the Celestine Prophecy from a fellow Reiki person. Ahhhhhhh! I have remembered again, "Mitakuye Oyas'in" (We Are All Related). So: just a little note of thanks from waaaay up in northern Michigan where it's snowing in May and there's a small but growing pocket of Reiki practitioners. My gratitude to you and all readers/writers in this forum who live in the light. Lynn: Over the years I have listed my Reiki practice under the list of practitioners on ReikiOne. I want you to know what a huge difference this has made, not only in my Reiki practice, but in my life, as well. Most of the new students that contact me do so because they have seen my listing on ReikiOne. It has proven to be more effective than any other Reiki website and even more productive than putting up my own Reiki website. More importantly, is that I have not only met new students, but I have experienced the joy of having my new students become life-long friends. I thank you for creating ReikiOne, giving practitioners like myself a gathering place to further the wonderful healing work of Reiki and for your constant work on making sure that ReikiOne is the finest Reiki website out there to date. Katherine: I am a RMT Usui and Karuna. I have also studied some Japanese Reiki techniques that are intuitive in nature. I am also an Animal Communicator. I use both intuitive readings for pets/animals and energy work together. They make for fascinating experiences. So if there are more questions about animal communication I would love to offer assistance. Thank you for this forum of discussion. Bless you! Vicki: Thanks for your newsletter, Teri, and I really like your second degree book that I ordered too. Barb, on an earlier Reflection: I'm glad I opened your e-mail this Sunday before Monday's start of the WORK week. Probably, many people don't have any "negative" association with the word WORK, but as I was just letting my thoughts flow, I thought about the term "light workers" - for a moment I got awfully tired thinking about WORK - I just wondered if anyone else felt the same and if anyone else thought it worth while to start a collective positive, joyful energy for the word "work". Katherine, on an earlier Discussion topic: I want to comment on Yvette's experience. Her experience is unique to her and I'd have to connect to her with her permission to see what might have happened. But a general answer is that in this universe there are dark beings and beings of light. Also, some people like to steal energy from others either consciously or unconsciously. This is a difficult topic. But being and living in the light has some challenges and responsibilities that are often not discussed. Protection and clear intent are very important when you are on the healing path. Please contact me for more information. hofgold@ecentral.com. Vicki, on an earlier Reiki Experience: I too have had sweaty hands several times while giving reiki, I assumed it was because more energy than usual was passing through to the person's body, but who knows? I have had my hand really hurt from the fingers up to the elbow because of so much energy passing through, that happened once on a client and once on myself. I love reiki, it's the best gift I've ever been given! Comments? Suggestions? Complaints? They don't have to be about the newsletter, just about Reiki or other healing topics. Be heard! Send them in! teri@reikione.com Scott: I have been practicing Reiki for almost 18 months now and at various times I have received distant healing from what I believed to be a well meaning unknown source or Reiki colleague. However, I have been recently been informed that I have been attracting Dark Energy from somewhere which is connected to the flat that I live in, so could you or any of my fellow readers suggest a way of differentiating between this good and bad energy, or possibly blocking this energy altogether. Your thoughts or suggestions would be gratefully received! ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ Although rather skeptical I decided to take up Reiki. I was very fortunate in that I took Reiki 1 with a highly experienced and dedicated trainer who was as interested in her students as she was in what she was teaching. I was also a part of a small group of interesting and fascinating students. So, despite my skepticism I enjoyed the course. Although not fully convinced (although unable to account for what had happened) I was keen to do Reiki 11. However business problems prevented me from doing this with my initial group. While waiting for the next available course I found my doubts coming back in force. This was because I could not detect anything (any force) within me nor could I see any results of what I tried to do. In fact I felt a real Charlie standing there passing my hands over even more skeptical friends ! I decided to do more book study and to go to other practitioners to get a better perspective. Only to find that many of them were merely taking advantage of a fad and had no more belief in Reiki than I had. They were merely in it for the money. My teacher tells me that I am making rods for my own back. The fellow students of Reiki 1 urge me to go ahead. I believe that there is a lot in the practice because many sincere people do it. But I think that, perhaps, I am not capable of handling Reiki. And I would never think of doing something merely to rip folk off. I know that the longer I put off doing Reiki 11 the less likely I will ever do it. But I can't waste more money on something that I cannot control nor experience. Nor can I understand the need of symbols for a force which should be there without any need of symbols. Any advice from your people ? This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue. Last week's question came from Jan: I am a new Reiki Master Teacher who would like to start her own healing practice. I have no idea where to begin. Can any of you provide me with advice on what I need to do? I know I need to get insurance and getting a minister's license was recommended, but do I need to get licensing, documents, anything else from the state where I live? (I live in Rhode Island.) I cannot afford to rent office space at present and my family doesn't want me working out of our home, so I thought I'd inquire with day spas, hairdressers, massage therapists, and acupuncturists/or chiropractors about the possibility of renting space from them. Also, what is a reasonable price to charge for a Reiki treatment? (All the treatments I've given so far have been free of charge.) Any suggestions or advice gratefully accepted. HELP!!! David: Reiki Sessions should usually cost close to what a massage therapy session costs in your area. I practice in my home (in a special room designated for that purpose) as well as outcalls and charge $50 for sessions here and $50 + Next week's question: comes from Sue: I would like some feedback from people re: sending reiki to past issues/events. I have sent reiki to future events and have sent it to myself to be received at the appropriate time and for the highest good of all, for example, when I know I will be entering a stressful situation at work. I have found it to work well and I have enjoyed it. I'm not quite sure when or why you might send reiki to what has already past. I'm interested to hear people's thoughts, experiences and suggestions for practice on the subject. Send your comments to teri@reikione.com with "discussion" in the subject line. Have a question you'd like to ask our readers? Send it in! teri@reikione.com. If you miss answering a question from a past issue, please feel free to still send in your comments, just reference the question you're replying to. Please send your ideas/experiences/thoughts/pitfalls on starting and maintaining a Reiki practice to teri@reikione.com. Read a good book or heard some good music, healing-wise? Write a review and I'll include it in the newsletter. Email your review to teri@reikione.com. Would you like your site featured here? Just send me the URL and a brief description - teri@reikione.com. One afternoon a man came home from work to find total mayhem in his house. His three children were outside, still in their Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened. He found her lounging in the bedroom, still curled in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?" She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world did I do today?" "Yes" was his incredulous reply. She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it." If you'd like to post a notice of an upcoming class or make an announcement, please send the information to teri@reikione.com. Chloe: I was browsing the web and came across your newsletter. I have a friend who is trying to quit drinking and would like to try acupuncture as part of the treatment. I was wondering if by chance you know of an acupuncturist in Gainesville who specializes in addiction?
John: I have seen people get good advice in your columns and I would like some of the same. I am quite prepared to be told that my problems are of my own mind making. Nothing else. Yet there are, I submit, other factors involved.

$.40 per mile round trip for sessions at their locations. It is a bit of a hassle moving the massage table, but some clients really prefer to be in their homes. I have found that word of mouth is the best advertising; giving free or low cost talks about Reiki is a good way to get clients. I carry business cards with my telephone number and "Reiki Master/Teacher" on them and give discounts to existing clients who refer. I also do regular Reiki Shares for practitioners in my area (and invite those who are curious about Reiki to come as well, if they are interested). This works to the benefit of both clients and other practitioners. If you rent space, usually they will ask for a % of what you charge, so you may need to charge more in a day spa, etc.; sometimes up to 50-60% may go to the spa. Having a website is also a terrific way to attract people to you;
establishing regular hours that you see clients and letting people know. AND remembering to follow your intuition about potential clients.
