~~Reflection~~ Teri Moore, editor & RMT

Working in my garden the last few days, I was naturally struck with the concept of 'growth.' Last spring/summer, I spent many hours tilling, prepping the soil, planting perennials, bordering beds with chunks of limestone, and spreading mulch. While the beds looked nice, many of the plants were small and didn't flower that first year.

Now, with the emergence of spring, the plants are fuller and healthier; early flowers are in bloom and the garden is filling in nicely. It'll still be another year or two before it reaches its maximum potential, but just seeing the change from one year to the next is a reward.

How like our practices, I thought. We begin slowly, reading and learning what we can; taking classes and getting attuned. Then we start working with the energy and our experiences become fuller and richer. What started from a small seed of a thought grows and expands into hearts, minds, and lives into a beautiful experience - cultivated and fed by our desire to heal, our desire to connect to the Universe.

~~Reader's Corner~~

Teri: Tom Jacobs has been nice enough to set up a Distance Healing Circle here at ReikiOne. You can get connected to others in the circle by visiting the Message Center. Thanks Tom! (ps - if you'd like to visit Tom's site, you can find him at http://www.reikiflow.com).

Tsy: Thanks for keeping us all connected!

Diane: Congratulations Teri! Wonderful !!! You do, do a wonderful job & I appreciate all your efforts. I am looking forward to finally take the time to teach Reiki... It has been a long time desire but always something got in the way & I would put it off I am thrilled with my Reiki One & Two manual.

Adrian: Firstly thank you for sharing your light which I find inspirational and evolving to listen to the different perceptions of life and reiki. I would like to add what I understand to the previous question of does reiki travel through a fleece ... or any material actually. I feel that there is a misconception of the difference between the scientific perspective of energy and spiritual energy like reiki or love. The physical laws of the universe are understood (and learning more) by science but they only apply to the physical energies like heat and vibration which its true they do not travel well through physical matter. However, my understanding and intuition is that the reiki energies are not governed by the physical laws as they exist in another dimension, the reiki dimension if you like which can be thought of as the higher spiritual dimension ... or heaven for those who that resonates with. This energy is akin to love (or even a resonating form of love with a different harmony) which does not need to travel as it is already inherent in us, all around us and is sown onto the very fabric of our 'world'. Reiki already is present in the fleece, the healer and heal-ee, its the intention and opening by the practitioner that allows the reiki to flow more freely and with intensity from the reiki source level of existence and being. So, my point is that reiki does not travel through objects as it doesn't need to travel because it is innate. If reiki was to travel like heat then does reiki travel through all of our atmospheres to our chakras and body and this would mean we couldn't do reiki underground which I know is not true as I have had wonderful reiki experiences under the earth. Understand reiki in a spiritual way rather than a physical way. The two are intertwined yes but not governed by the same laws or work in the same way. Much love and light to you all. ... and thank you again for a great newsletter and light.

Michael, on last week's Reflection: Talk about commonality of experience, Holy-smokes!

Maggie Batt (on an earlier discussion question): I believe Kundalini and tantric yoga are wonderful tools for the Reiki practitioner. They redirect the sexual personal ki energy along energy channels, up thru the spine, to be transformed into higher vibratory energy to be used spiritually. This is very powerful. So kundalini yoga uses your own personal ki; whereas Reiki channels safely the universal life-force energy from the source. It is important for a Reiki teacher to use certain exercises before passing attunements to open up her chakras and energy channels. Kundalini is one of these practices. You can also stimulate the chakras by sound, yoga poses (asanas), and breath. These charge, brighten and clear up the auric field.

Perri (on an earlier discussion question): I have been practising tantric yoga which stimulates Kundalini energy for two years. To me Kundalini is a manifestation of chi or ki used in ReiKi. The energy is released from a gland located at the base of the spine. Once the Kundalini energy has been stimulated and released, many factors will stimulate it. Some of the things that stimulate mine are mint/teatree, a cold wind, music, laughter, Tai Chi, yoga or being in the presence of my life partner. During my daily practice, I pump up the energy in the lower chakras which stimulates the kundalini and the upper chakras. I use techniques to open up my channels to Universal energy and Earth energy nurturing the flow of energy between them and me restoring harmony and balance. Before and during Reiki treatments, I pump up the Kundalini. In my experience it uses the heart chakra as a junction to connect Earth, Universal energy being channeled through me to the client with the Kundalini flowing through my hands in a cycle between me, All that Is and the client. During this process, the client gets recharged and releases all that does not serve him/her into the cycle. To me, no Reiki session is complete without Kundalini which makes the healing far more powerful. This practise has led me to heal my issues that are connected with the 1st 2 Chakras. I bless all those who have the courage to walk this path and remind them to use care and wisdom.

Barbara: congratulations on your award for the Reiki Magazine! that is wonderful...

~~Reiki Experience~~

Angela: I'm a very big fan of your newsletter. I has kept me in touch with Reiki when I have been unable to stay in touch with my RMT and share group. It keeps the flame burning, no matter how small. I am level 1 and only practice Reiki on myself. I have tried to share my energy but no one around me is interested and my partner feels physically uncomfortable and 'energy tingly' when I give him Reiki.... but that is another issue. I understand that's what I'm attracting for the moment. I would like some feedback from anyone who feels the need to respond to my situation. I have found after years of personal growth work that I'm constantly struggling for balance. I get to a point where I am incorporating the practices I know are beneficial to my health and well-being into my life and everything is going well and then slowly I seem to just let things slide until they are back to unpleasant and unproductive again. Then I have to start to climb the ladder all over again. It feels like there is a part of me that shuns the light and does it's best to lead me away from that path. I'm sick of starting from the bottom time and time again when I've achieved so much and worked so hard. At first I thought perhaps it was just that I hadn't found the right 'technique' or 'discipline' but now I think it's something I need to heal within myself. Even as things have deteriorated this time I have continued my personal Reiki practice even though I can't really 'feel' the energy anymore. What am I missing? If anyone feels the need to respond I would welcome your insight. Thank you again for keeping the faith.

KK: Recently when I was treating a colleague of mine my hands started sweating after they had become hot. This was a new experience for me. Please let me know its significance.

David: I have been a reiki master for 6 months and have been doing reiki for a year and a half. My problem is the arthritis.I do reiki on my self for 2-3 hrs every day but cannot make any head way with my general health.my friends and family find it very effective as my mam has arthritis as well as most of here family. I use so muck energy on myself my insides feel like they are burning and I break into a sweat. But after a few hours I am back to square one.I feel if I cannot help myself how can I help others when I cannot even stand or sit long enough to give a proper reiki treatment.I feel I have to get the job done in the first 15 mins or my back is in rags. As you have a lot of experience in reiki can you give me advice on what to do or no matter how good I get at reiki I am just stuck like this and no matter how had I try there is nothing I can do?

Responses for David:
Kathleen: Remember that Reiki always works for the highest good. Have you sent Reiki to this situation? Try doing the symbols and asking for highest good, guidance, and clarity for the resolution of this matter. Sometimes there are lessons we are supposed to learn, and health issues may be a clearing out of old stuff. Reiki does not always work the way we expect it to, but it always works! Perhaps becoming a Master has intensified your health issues so that you may heal them more effectively, or perhaps the health issues will bring up other situations in your life that need healing. Reiki often challenges us at our most fundamental levels. Perhaps Reiki is asking for your trust. I have also found in my experience, no matter what your level of Reiki, in addition to self-treatments, it is important to receive regular treatments from another person. Most importantly, don't give up: have faith that Reiki is taking you where you need to go (unpleasant though that may be at times!). I wish you health and success in your journey.

Zannie: David, you wrote about severe arthritis curtailing the length of the sessions you are able to give, and the fact that Reiki does not seem to alleviate your condition. This has been one of my questions too. We read so many lovely stories of wonderful'cures' in books about Reiki and wonder why our own health challenges remain. I wonder if there would be some benefit in sending Reiki to the karmic cause of the health condition and to all our soul extensions too, as well as to any belief systems we may have that tells us a condition is incurable. I think you have done well to get to a place of giving Reiki to others but would suggest you stop the treatments just this side of causing discomfort for yourself. Have you done Reiki 2 yet? Then you could send distant healing as a way to continue your reiki service. Just as I was about to sign off, I had an image of you coated in soothing warm wax. I will send that image to you now if your Soul permits it. I wish you reiki miracles.

Sue: It must be very stressful for you experience ongoing suffering from arthritis. I would like to suggest that there is nothing more you need to do to help yourself than what you are already doing. You will not get any better or any worse at reiki. Reiki just is. It will flow through you and you will get what you need. You are nothing to do with what happens. You're the channel. I wonder if you might like to investigate your problem with arthritis through doing Byron Katie's 'The Work'? I have benefited enormously from 'The Work' and like to combine it with reiki - first do 'The Work', then treat yourself to reiki, because you deserve it. The website is www.thework.com.

Lisa: David, I understand your frustration as I have felt it myself a little, so I thought I would let you know how things went for me. I too have struggled with still having physical problems/illnesses that I had over 2 years ago when I first learnt Reiki. But I seem to have at last made a huge headway, and with that came some understanding of my situation. Of course, it may not be the same as yours, but just in case it helps, I thought I would mention it. Reiki has always worked on me, just not always on what I expected ... is that not the way it works with our clients as well?!! I think that it facilitated lessons that I needed to learn or understand before I could be completely healed. Maybe, if the physical symptoms had been removed, I would not have spent so much time working on myself? I suddenly realised today how much progress I have made, and also more scarily, how ill I would now be if I had not made the changes in my life. On a physical level I needed to learn about and improve my nutrition, and exercise. On an emotional level I needed to take the step of wanting to release all the fear and anger that was holding me back and making me sick. I also needed to learn to put myself first, rather than my clients or anyone else. Do you get to go to Reiki sharings? If not it would be a good idea to find some people who could swap treatments with you. Each illness and problem has had a message for me:- not always clear, but there none the less ;o) So, somewhere along the way, your arthritis is either still giving you a message or maybe you don't believe you deserve it to go? I have used other treatments as well e.g. Herbalism, Holographic Repatterning, Bach flower remedies, maybe there is something else that could help you? For example I have heard a lot about Noni juice and arthritis. Keep it up, and you will make progress .... look back now and you will see how far you have already come. As humans we get frustrated with what appears to be slow progress, but remember that really there is all the time in the world. In the meantime, continue to treat people in a way that will not hurt you ... why don't you stick to distance treatments, or just do short ones ... they can be as effective as full sessions? Don't give up. Sometimes I think that the fact that our problems seem so difficult to solve is so that we can empathise with our clients, so it just makes us better healers! Hope this helps. Good Luck. (For more information on Holographic Repatterning, see my website www.lisareiki.com).

Maggie Batt: Sometimes it's harder to heal ourselves with Reiki. You may try receiving Reiki from someone else and see if you have any luck. On a deeper level, sometimes we are not ready to let go of our disease or there are still lessons we need to learn from it. If it is a past life trauma or generational imprint (hereditary), it could appear as a scratch in your aura. When healing is needed on a soul level, it is harder to heal. Don't give up! Try remembering when you first encountered arthritis pain--how you felt physically and emotionally--and bring that imprint to the surface. Then try doing the Reiki. I also suggest you eat 20 cherries a day. You may find fabulous results.

White Dove: I sense that your difficulty is not in the Reiki itself nor how good you are at using it. Rather I think it how badly you are wanting the healing and how hard you are straining to make the healing happen that is impeding the healing. My sense is that if you use Reiki with the practice of surrendering, you will find the healing you are seeking.

LJ: May I suggest picking up a copy of a set of tapes titled "Nature of Healing" set 1 and set 2. This is a discussion done in two parts and they are released by Concept Synergy. These are discussions given by Lazaris. On the first set Lazaris discusses what is health, what is illness, and why some people don't get better. I found this discussion an incredible tool as a student of Reiki because it helped me to understand, to another level, the beauty and the nature of choice. On the second tape Lazaris discusses the human body as it relates to chakra's and illness. Once again, a warehouse of knowledge providing another depth to my Reiki language.

Vic: Consider visiting Reiki Blessings Academy website, to learn other holistic methods, to intermingle with Reiki to help your arthritis. There are two basic types of arthritis, and caused by different things. If you have rheum. arth. it is fairly easy to control, as the pain related is muscular, and can be alleviated when the liver is cleansed, by adjusting eating habits. Dr. Sandra Cabot wrote a great book called "The Liver Cleanse Diet." I do not have much experience with Osteo Arth. Good luck, and certainly, the light will lead you perfectly.

~~Licensing Issues~~

Michigan: from William Lee Rand

The practice of Reiki and other forms of alternative/complementary healing are threatened by Michigan's outdated medical practice laws. Every unlicensed practitioner is at risk and could be arrested for practicing medicine without a license unless something is done NOW! One person was recently arrested and a new group has formed to create a solution. To find

~~Up for Discussion~~

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue.

Last week's question came from Laine (who has not received Reiki attunements but wrote in an earlier issue of her experiences with Reiki as a relative of Takata): Since my Reiki channel seems to be opened, do I need to go through attunement to keep it open and protect it from outside energies? Also, I have had success with self-healing and shared it with friends, who would like me to try to help heal them of minor health problems. But, I have never gone though any training. Is it an inappropriate step for me to take?

White Dove: Hi Laine: Although Reiki is a healing modality, it also is a Japanese word that refers to a type of energy that is available to anyone and has been since the beginning of human existence. As a Reiki Master Teacher, my answer may be considered controversial, but I believe attunements do not add anything that is not already a part of the person. Attunements just highlight, they help a person to attune (to tune in) to what is already inside of them and to use it easier. If you feel drawn to Reiki, then by all means, pursue it! It has been a life-changing experience that has opened many doors for me and I highly recommend it! However, people have been utilizing energy for healing long before Reiki healing was popular and I am
sure it will always be the case.

Next week's question: comes from Julie: When I received my Reiki I attunement - the Reiki Master who gave the attunement, had a very clear vision of me as a "Warrior Princess" (he said that this was the first time he ever had a vision when giving an attunement - he also had a vision of each of the other students in our group, although each was a different vision). I have spoken to a few other people I know who practice Reiki, 3 of them have been told by either patients or friend, that they have seen/had a vision of a Warrior standing beside them during a treatment. Each of these people is also drawn to Celtic mythology. We were wondering whether we had a connection to Celtic healers, and whether anyone else has experience this type of vision when giving or receiving Reiki?

~~Music/Book Review~~

from Karen

One of the topics for discussion a few weeks ago concerned protecting oneself from any 'negative' or 'dark' energies whilst practising Reiki. I was interested in the diversity of replies and I wonder if I may share the following 'find' with you and your members, please:

I have just finished reading a book concerning potential problems encountered in healing work. The book is written by David Ashworth - a UK-based healer with considerable and diverse experience in areas such as Reiki, Lightwork, Geopathic Stress and Spiritual Rescue work.

The book is called, "Dancing with the Devil as you Channel the Light". Please don't let the title put you off - the book is not designed to scare, but is written with much love and a genuine desire to help protect our growing 'army' of healers from unwanted attention.

Known as 'the healers healer', David Ashworth continues to help Reiki practitioners who have suffered, or are suffering from negative energy attachments, etc. This recent book was written following advice (and a little 'pressure', I believe!) from his spirit guides to share his knowledge and experiences with fellow healers.

In my humble opinion, David's book it very timely and is an essential read for anyone practising Reiki or other light work on themselves or others. Further details and ordering info at www.davidashworth.com/books.html. PS I'm not affiliated in any way - this is a genuine recommendation. :-)

Read a good book or heard some good music, healing-wise? Write a review and I'll include it in the newsletter. Email your review to teri@reikione.com.

Now that they are retired, mother and father are discussing all aspects of their future. "What will you do if I die before you do?" Dad asked Mom.

After some thought, she said that she'd probably look for a house sharing situation with three other single or widowed women who might be a little younger than herself, since she is so active for her age.

Then Mom asked Dad, "What will you do if I die first?"

He replied, "Probably the same thing."
