^^^Reflection^^^ by Teri Moore, editor & RMT

I've been thinking lately about the use of Reiki. When I sat down this morning to write this column, I found many questions . . . not many answers. I share these with you now as points of reflection.

Is Reiki something we only bring out when confronted with illness or a difficult situation? Or do we use it on a daily basis, incorporating it into our lives as easily as breathing or walking?

To get to that place where the energy flows through us at all times . . . do you suppose that would be overwhelming or invigorating?

Would our conscious to unconscious use of Reiki everyday, all day long, diminish the specialness of Reiki for us? Would we get into a 'healing trap' or 'power trip' with all those vibes running up and down our spines and through our bodies? Would we then try to force outcomes as we pass on the energy?

Or would we simply drift in the quiet peaceful embrace of the god/goddess/universe, knowing the gift of Reiki is alive in us and that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves?

^^^Reiki Experience^^^ from tallcorn2 (sorry, didn't have your name!)

I was at the library this afternoon when a librarian walked up to me with a copy of a book about Reiki in her hand. She and I had discussed Reiki and I urged her to read about it and find a practitioner. She said her son is a counselor in Atlanta and recently told her Reiki is part of the program! She is ordering for the library every copy of Reiki she can. Is the world coming out of the dark ages? I am degree one and my practitioner plans a degree two workshop in January in Birmingham, Alabama.

^^^Up for Discussion^^^

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue.

Last week's question: came from Michele: Do you use crystals in your Reiki practice? If so, how do you use them and how do you cleanse/recharge the crystals?

Lightbeam Institute: I have been using crystals with Reiki for over 8 years and have found them to be a very powerful combination. They seem to amplify the Reiki energies and therefore the results. You can cleanse any crystal with your intent, as well as blasting them with reiki and using the power symbol as well. You may also use sage, sea salt, moonlight, sunlight and by burying them in the earth for a day. I have also developed something called the Crystals of Light Crystal First Aid Kit, which has been uniquely programmed with the Reiki symbols and other healing energies, specially for Reiki practitioners to use. Information on this can be found on my web site www.lightbeaminstitute.com.

Gael: Greetings from Spain. Yes, I´ve used crystals in my Reiki practise since my first initiation in 1994, when my Master, Ma Prem, had a most impressive smoky on a low table beside a photo of Usui sensei. Whether as an association of ideas or a true insight, since then, I´ve always seen Usui sensei´s energy as an expression of the same energy manifested by a smoky quartz. I´ve used just about all the types of crystals there are available with Reiki and in many different ways; I have a personal affinity with the crystalline realm which makes channeling reiki with crystals a joyous and age-old familiar experience. I confess that one of the greatest pleasures Reiki has afforded me is the sensation when a crystal "awakens" when held in my hands and I channel reiki through it.
--At the moment, I´m working with the practises given by Doi sensei in the two Mastery workshops I was fortunate to attend in November, (plus the amazing reiju workshop), so the crystalline realms are taking a rest from my incursions. Until I was informed by Doi sensei in a private conversation that crystals never formed a part of Usui sensei´s practise, contradicting what I had understood from Petters´"Reiki Fire" I had used crystals on a daily, if not hourly basis:Rose quartz, Smokey, and especially phantoms (ahh, phantoms) formed part of my usual Reiki teaching and practise. Amongst other minerals I used amber a great deal, especially to connect with energy work as performed by some of my ancestors, Celt, Iberian and Norse. In this exploration I also used malachite, as well as fossilized sea urchins, jet, Compostela Hyacinths, certain quartz formations, quartz spheres and agate.
--Was it useful to unravel the threads of the past? I think so because I found the energy of consciously exploring one´s bloodlines is a surprisingly potent source of inspiration. And Reiki provide a measure of protection (yes, protection) for which I was grateful on several occasions.
--Then there are the minerals which help explore the Atlantean and Lemurian sources of information and knowledge. Notice I do not say: wisdom.
--Is it useful to use crystals with Reiki? I mulled over this question all this week and cannot say with certainty yea
or nay. Crystal work forms part of my reiki experience, though I am finding that under Doi sensei´s proddings my energy work is on a level now which it never had with crystals. What I can say is that is a deep pleasure to be accompanied by crystals in Reiki practise. At the same time, crystal work is a call not all Reiki practitioners feel, and I hope none of you ever feel defensive if you prefer to use Reiki without the accompaniment of crystals!
--Michele´s thought provoking question inspires me to make a modification in my current practise and take up crystal usage in my participation in the Usui 21 day retreat. I´ll allow a smoky sphere to rest in my left hand whilst I meditate as part of this virtual retreat and use it to direct and ground the energy channeled at the end of my daily activities. Why a sphere? Because I´ve found it to be the best for me: even a small sphere supports a much stronger Reiki flow than natural points of other forms which are many times the size of a water-clear quartz sphere.
--About cleansing crystals: I found that using rice and beds of rose petals or quartz druses to be the most effective. for cleansing and recharging. While many authors recommend burying crystals in beds of salt, I perceive it to be too drastic a cleanse, perhaps even comparable to frontal lobotomy for a human. Transmute the existing energies with Reiki is always my preferred path. In an extreme case you might use a cleansing technique of Doi sensei which you´ll find at www.threshold.ca (thank you, Rick!)
--Ways to use Crystals with reiki? Simply having them present in the area when you channel reiki Placed underneath the massage table Lodged between your fingers as you scan a person´s body or do hands on treatments. Held in your hands and used to "shelter" those whom you wish to include in a distance treatment. Charged with reiki and place in a vessel of water to be drunk.
--Here´s my personal choice of crystal books. George Frederick Kunz "The Curious Lore of Precious Stones" Dover. A
reprint of the 1913 edition. (a must have on the shelf book) Barbara G. Walker "The Book of Sacred Stones" Harper Collins ( a level headed look at the sometimes wigged-out world of crystals authors) Dolphyn "Crystal Wisdom" Elfos (possibly the best exercises for working with crystals I´ve seen. and the author´s approach to crystals is the best I´ve
come across) Ursula Klinger-Omenka ""Reiki With Gemstones" Lotus Press (sublime). Crystalline hugs to all!

Next week's question: Please share with us an attunement experience - one you received or gave (or both!).

^^^Just for Fun^^^

Long ago, when sailing ships ruled the waves, a captain and his crew were in danger of being boarded by a pirate
ship. As the crew became frantic, the captain bellowed to his First Mate, 'Bring me my red shirt!' The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt, which the captain put on and led the crew to battle the pirate boarding party. Although some casualties occurred among the crew, the pirates were repelled. Later that day, the lookout screamed that there were two pirate vessels sending boarding parties. The crew cowered in fear, but the captain, calm as ever bellowed, 'Bring me my red shirt!' And once again the battle was on. However, the Captain and his crew repelled both boarding parties, though this time more casualties occurred.

Weary from the battles, the men sat around on deck that night recounting the day's occurrences when an ensign looked to the Captain and asked, 'Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before the battle?' The Captain, giving the ensign a look that only a captain can give, exhorted, 'If I am wounded in battle, the red shirt does not show the wound and thus, you men will continue to fight unafraid.' The men sat in silence marveling at the courage of such a man. As dawn came the next morning, the lookout screamed that there were pirate ships, 10 of them, all with boarding parties on their way. The men became silent and looked to the Captain, their leader, for his usual command.

The Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, 'Bring me my brown pants!'
