^^^Reflection^^^ by Teri Moore, editor & RMT

Of all the issues Reiki has brought to the forefront for me, I find one of the hardest to deal with is asking someone for help. This has been a long time lesson for me and goes back to my little girl times. Not wanting to be a bother, I didn't ask for much . . . . people around me were either sick or drinking or in some sort of trouble. I thought if I kept quiet and didn't attract much notice none of those bad things would happen to me. So I learned to ignore what I needed and pushed it aside. Within my attunements and the following years of practice and meditation, I'm finding I still struggle with this issue of not wanting to be a bother.

You see, I need to ask something of all of you. I feel uncomfortable doing it not only for the above reason, but because I don't want you to think I'm using this newsletter as a vehicle for my own benefit. But I'm in a quandary. I've turned the problem over to the Universe and the response I received was to talk to all of you. So, here goes . . .

I've been presented with the opportunity to study to receive my yoga teacher certification. This is the first time it's ever been offered where I live. For the past year, I had been trying to figure out how to get to the Kripalu center in Massachusetts but given the fact I work for myself going away for a month is next to impossible if I want to have food in the house :o]. Plus with the husband and kids, it's just not practical.

I met with the yoga teacher yesterday and talked with her at great length. The interesting aspect of this teacher program is a forty hour concentrated study on a topic of our choosing. I've been long fascinated by the energy movement found in yoga and Reiki and the combination of the two. A couple of months ago, I (literally) dreamed of a form of yoga wherein the student would receive Reiki attunements as a way to connect with the source. The name of this form, as it was explained to me in the dream, is Goddess Flow. It's about getting in touch with our feminine natures, for both men and women. My problem inside of all this, though, is the cost of the training.

Which leads me to what I need to ask . . . . if you've enjoyed this newsletter and the ReikiOne website, please consider ordering the Winter 2001 electronic edition of the magazine. To help finance my class, I'm offering the download of this single issue (44 pages in all) for just $1. If you'd like to send copies as gifts to some of your Reiki friends/students for this holiday season, I'm offering 3 copies for $2 and 6 copies for $5. If you're unable to make a purchase, I'd appreciate any energy you can send for the highest good. I'd like to add that if enough copies are sold where I'm able to cover the cost of the tuition, I'll apply whatever's left over to a scholarship program here at ReikiOne to help cover the cost of a magazine subscription or First Degree Teaching Manual for those who would like to receive these items but find it difficult to pay for them. If you'd like to participate in my 'fund raising' program, please visit http://www.reikione.com/r1journal.htm. Once I receive your order, I'll send you download instructions.

Whew. That was much harder than I thought it would be. But thank you for listening and your kindness. I leave you with this thought for the week from Shakti Gawain's "Creative Visualization" . . . .

'There is no separation between us and God - we are divine expressions of the creative principle . . . there can be do real lack or scarcity; there is nothing we have to try to achieve or attract; we contain the potential for everything within us.'

Until next time . . . . light and love to you.

^^^Up for Discussion^^^
This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue.

Last week's question: The topic of what I call "Reiki Dreaming" came up at the Message Center last week. This is the process where we find ourselves using Reiki in our dreams - for protection, healing, etc. Have you experienced this? If so, tell us about it!

Gael Sylvia: Once again, the week´s discussion topic revolves around a technique I´ve taught for several years from 1st level on, since no second level information is needed, though, of course, symbols can be incorporated into this practise, especially the Master symbol. I called it Dream Reiki. How did I come up with this? Here in Madrid we´re fortunate enough to have three Tibetan Buddhist centres which offer a variety of conferences, rituals offerings, workshops and
Vajrayana Initiations year round, all given by Geshes, that is, Tibetan Buddhist lamas qualified to teach doctrine and practise. On several occasions the term "dream practise" would arise and be discussed at length by the presiding Geshe. I read more on the subject (see the bibliography at the end) and became aware that here was a technique that could be adapted for Reiki use without bending any ethical boundaries.
While "dream practise" can be as refined, complex or subtle as one desires, it can be also be adapted into a very simple practise, apt for any Reiki practitioner. Here´s how: As you´re tucked into bed and giving yourself your beddybye Reiki self-treatment you simply think to yourself that during your sleep, you will continue to be a Reiki channel, with this wonderful energy flowing to the destination of your choice. And upon awakening, take a moment to be grateful for having been a Reiki channel in your sleep. As Doi sensei taught in the Master classes he gave after URRI 2001, gratitude is a vital ingredient in one´s daily reiki practise.
Possible destinations could include:
1. Towards any negative reactions you "may" (in my case, "certainly") have generated during the day trough lack of mindfulness, hurry, anger, frustration...that is to say the factors or excuses which can override our undoubted good intentions in a given moment. No analysis, no judgment. Just Dream Reiki.
2. Seriously ill people. Because there are types of illnesses which tend to require mega doses of Reiki, I´ve found that Dream Reiki is ideal for this work, allowing a very pure energy sending, relatively unfiltered by my own perceptions.
3. Planetary healing, etc.
Naturally, it is not necessary to look to Tibet for examples of dream work, as we have an almost endless supply of examples from our own diverse cultural backgrounds: Jacob´s remarkable dream, certain Norse and Celtic magical practises, even the seldom mentioned dream of St Thomas Aquinas at the end of his life attest to the use of dreamtime throughout our planet. So I encourage each reader to seek validation of dreamtime work through personal genetic heritage, as this enriches any energetic practise tremendously.
Why then do I recommend practises based on Tibetan Buddhist teachings? Because they are well thought-out, safe and simple methods which can be used by both Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike. Since many of us lack an experienced dream master at hand for daily consultation, I stress the importance of safety, of security and universal application in what I teach
and practise in my Reiki classes.
And if one notices no apparent effects? Even after months of practise? Not to worry: as we all know, Reiki functions on the perfect level in every case, so any "lack" of perceptions, memories and so on is unimportant in the context of the experience of Dream Reiki.
The following bibliography provides more information on the Buddhist
teachings on this fascinating subject:
HH Dalai Lama "Sleeping, Dreaming and Dying: an Exploration of Consciousness with the Dalai Lama" Wisdom Publications, 1997
Namkai Norbu Rimpoche "Dream Yoga and the Practise of natural Light" Snow Lion Publications, 1992
Tenzin Wangyal Rimpoche "The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep" Snow Lion Publications, 1998
and my personal favourite, unfortunately unavailable in English Geshe Jamel Senghe "Sueños, Muerte y Bardo" Ediciones Dharma, 1984

Jaie: I had an experience almost 2 years ago. I am a healer, Reiki Master, and holistic voice teacher. I 'woke' one morning into a dream state, astrally traveling to one of my students and doing Reiki healing work on her. I spoke with her later, and she said, yes, she remembers praying to Mother Earth to send her healing, and we surmised that this was the form it took.
It was, as I recall, a very powerful experience.

Next week's question: comes from Michele: Do you use crystals in your Reiki practice? If so, how do you use them and how do you cleanse/recharge the crystals?

^^^Just for Fun^^^

Deep in the backwoods, a man's wife went into labor in the middle of the night, and the doctor was called out to assist in the delivery. Since there was no electricity, the doctor handed the father-to-be a lantern and said, "Here, you hold this high so I can see what I'm doing."

Soon, a baby boy was brought into the world. "Whoa there," said the doctor. "Don't be in a rush to put the lantern down...I think there's another one coming,"

Sure enough, within minutes he had delivered a baby girl. "No, no, don't be in a great hurry to be putting down that lantern... It seems there's yet another one in there!" cried the doctor.

The man scratched his head in bewilderment, and asked the doctor, "Do you think it's the light that's attractin' 'em?"
