Karen: Thank you so much for posting information and warnings about climate
changes, John. This is a very serious matter - and we need to act now. I
think it makes absolute sense to reach out to communities such as our own
Reiki community (thanks to our hardworking moderator, Teri) - I have been
thinking for some time about how best to help the Planet, without
interfering too much with nature. I would be more than happy to spend a half
hour a day doing a meditation/visualisation – after all, the Planet is not a
disconnected 'thing', we are all one. We heal the Planet, we heal ourselves.

Christine: just received my first newsletter and I love it. would like to add here that I do a weekly long-distance healing , I use a beautiful heart-shaped box that has an image of the Medicine Buddha in the lid , and on little cards [ reverse sides of my Reiki business cards ] I've written the names of everyone whose lives touch mine, also the symbols and a most beautiful photo/graphic of the world that I downloaded from the net............. I like to think that Reiki reaches all beings that are fortunate enough to find themselves inhabiting this glorious planet of ours. Strange to note that a few weeks prior to the tsunami , I got a flash vision or " feeling " of the earth as she sped through velvet marine-blue skies and the thought hit me " who are we actually ? miniscule , insignificant little creatures that we are , what do we do , what are we here for ? " and it was then that I " picked up my interest in Reiki again for it had lapsed for a year or two . And then after the disaster I was approached by Email to join in a world- healing Reiki session that occurred through all time-zones and countries throughout december 31st.And it was this that prompted my "healing-heart-box" for everyone who is interested : www.medicinebuddha.org/medicine_buddha.htm

Geoff: Many thanks for the recent newsletter. I read with great interest the article from John re Reiki request. It was interesting on two points firstly that it runs alongside the piece I sent you with regard to my Channeling and secondly and most importantly I firmly believe that nothing is written in stone. So whilst the messages I received were for a purpose maybe that purpose was to enlighten mankind and in particular to ask all of your subscribers to send weekly healing to the planet and all its inhabitants. Please take what you think is acceptable from this but I would ask all reiki healers to send distance healing on a regular basis.

Rachel: As usual, a pleasure to touch down with the Reiki-One family, thanks to all for their contributions. John, you spoke my mind! I seem to be in a period where awareness of our planets' health is being forced upon me, from all sources. This may well be the case for many of us, because the issue of earth's survival is becoming more urgent. With all the torture of our planets energy system- I think we are all familiar with this unhappy tale- our earth is beginning to express her disruption. Every prophesy that ever was, talked about cataclysmic events that would rectify the non-loving aspect of our progress that is rather rampant in our treatment of our beautiful home, also that this astrological moment would be full of huge change. Our earth is also deeply burdened by the sadness of her humans. Our reiki is ESSENTIAL to easing this profound passage to a more unified and loving existence for humanity- and for our precious earth of course. If you would like some confirmation of Reiki energy and it's suitability for Earth and her healing, try doing some reiki on a plant, instead of giving it water. Yeah- I do mean that! Take two plants and give one water and one reiki and watch them both, you may be surprised to see that reiki has an essential role to the survival of this planet.( I have read accounts of healthy plants 6 waterless months later). It is the earth's infinite wisdom that helped us to awaken ourselves right now to this wonderful reiki energy. We should remember this love and beauty we have in reiki when we think of our planet. Reiki every day, even 10mins, or half an hour or 1 hour a week or best of all some reiki friends( like us! ) all doing a little, or just a little loving thought; our earth is essential to our survival as a species, it serves a selfish interest if we try and help her to survive the abusive history at the hands of humans. I love planet earth and I support John's suggestion, and am starting today. I hope others of you will join us.

Rick: On Earth changes. I appreciate John's request for daily Reiki to the planet. Many of us have been doing this for years, and I also often walk in nature offering (and receiving) as much as is required from me. But I find it also helps to deal with the people I come into contact daily, sending Reiki those closer relationships, "Feeling" a better interaction, so that I also begin change right in my neighborhood, not just half way around the world. Since I am constantly working at my PC, I have little objects next to it that I use as a focus to send Reiki to healing subjects. This is a great way to ensure that I am thinking daily about that which I want to improve and enrich. And meanwhile I encourage the earth to have its daily "burps" (earthquakes), but on a gentle scale if possible.
Most metaphysical students are aware that our thoughts and words affect our reality in a powerful way - simply focusing repeatedly on something - whether wanting it or repelling it - tends to draw it to you. This has become part of the New Age Spirituality as well. (e.g. see Wayne Dyer on PBS). Several years ago in Tibet, Greg Braden learned that "Feeling" is the original method of prayer still used by the lamas. It means visualising (with emotion) something to the exclusion of all else, as if the moment and event were right now and real. I find that Reiki tends to bring things into balance and perhaps if we can learn to "Feel" the world we wish, we will tend to bring it more and more into our reality.
Just a minor correction to John's comments. The frequency of earthquakes is not really an area that has changed much. If you look at the data collected and published each year (since the late 60's) at the National Earthquake http://wwwneic.cr.usgs.gov/neis/tours/neic_bulletins.html you will see there are actually over 20,000 earthquakes worldwide each year (over 50 a day) . The chart at http://wwwneic.cr.usgs.gov/neis/tours/neic_bulletins_figures.html#figure3 shows the breakdown in magnitude for 1998.

David, on an earlier question regarding Reiki 'scripts': Reiki is always about intent. What is your "goal" for the session? Any ritual, symbol, process, procedure, anything -- is only an embodiment of intent. It is always (and only) the intent that matters. So, as for scripts in particular, there is no magic formula in Reiki, or should I say, all formulae are magic. You can write your own
script, at any time, for any purpose. If the wording of the script
captures what you intend (e.g. to bring the highest and best, most
loving healing to some condition), then it is the perfect script. If
you re-write it with major changes tomorrow, if that script captures
the essence of your intent, then it is, once again, the perfect script.
If you can be clear in your own mind as to what your intent is, then
no script at all is required. I also offer the following discussion as to the reason why intent works as I suggest. This is because of the basic nature of human life. Not everyone will agree with me, and that is fine, I offer my
view/opinion/insight for as much or as little as it is worth to you. All human beings (and all life, and all existence, actually) are
interconnected in the higher dimensions (higher vibrations). This is
why Reiki can happen in the first place -- how energy can flow through
one person to another -- they are connected (this may be more/most
obvious with distance work). In the higher dimension/vibrations,
there is no material reality (the physical world is only part of the
lower vibration, dualistic existence). Therefore, in the higher
dimension/vibrations, only thought is real. Intent is thought applied
to a purpose. So, in Reiki (an inherently higher dimension/vibration
"thing"), thought is the ultimate reality, and intention is the
mechanism by which thought manifests in form, or action, or whatever.

Janet, on the same discussion question: about what he should say when he wants to ask for something? Does he mean asking Spirit/God/Allah/Universal Energy? If so, I don't think Spirit cares how you ask for anything. I've asked many ways from the most very reverential requests to "Dammit, give me a hand here!!!! :-) Anything works. Whatever is comfortable or feels right in each situation. You might tell Spirit what it is that needs healing when you ask. "For the client's highest good" is great but clarification can help.

Gael, for Jack as well: This is a very good question, because you have focused on a Reiki issue that comes up again and again in Reiki workshops. Generally, when I´m asked on how to focus on directing the Reiki energy to a specific point, such as the results of something: from exams to medical test results, I tell people to dedicate it (Reiki and its use) to the highest good of all concerned.
Other people, are happier working with visualizations and if that is your case, my advise is to explore this way of living Reiki.
Yet others are more comfortable with a literal approach to Reiki, formulating scripts, poems or lists of objectives.
These three approaches and many more work really well with Reiki and you might find some useful ideas that great standby, Adonea´s Reiki page. Their articles on Reiki techniques are always interesting.
Also, Jack, remember that for focusing reiki to another persons need, you can always try first bringing to mind a similar situation in your own life and from consciously Reiki-ing that particular issue, then sending Reiki to another person from that space of personal healing.

John: Received your newsletter today and saw that you had my story in it, but also an extra one in an earlier part. Thanks very much for placing it, the timing is perfect. Next week they tell us there will be some extra strong solar flares coming our way, so all the help is welcome.

Rick, on an earlier question regarding Tera Mai: On Tera-Mai. I was drawn to Kathleen Milner 10 years ago after hearing of her from several sources. This was a year before she began using the Tera-Mai name. Because of her work with the Seichim (Seichem) energy of Patrick Ziegler, her Reiki seems to incorporate that. Thus after the attunements I felt a powerful electric like current in my bones. This remains to this day although I have adjusted to it. This is one of the sensations of Seichim. There was definitely a shift in my Reiki energy (Milner's guides had shifted her Reiki energy twice in 1991). Since that time I have experienced other Reiki "flavours" (Western and Japanese), each seeming to have different qualities and sensations to them. (Note that re-attunements to any version, as well as daily use of that energy, tend to reinforce it). It is as if each energy (Reiki or other) tends to stretch and grow my affinity for more energy. Milner is quite strict on the use of Tera-Mai in that she says you no longer have pure Tera-Mai if afterwards you receive or give attunements to other energies or forms of Reiki. She actually voids Tera-Mai masters who do this. This change in Tera-Mai was not my experience nor those of my students, but by 2000 I took the hint from Spirit and let my own system of Threshold Reiki develop. I now have a better understanding of how modified systems of Reiki (like Hayashi Reiki, Tera-Mai, Karuna, etc.) tend to develop.

How did YOU find Reiki?

New Experiences

Karen: I am being guided to use my Reiki to treat animals - in particular, horses. I have very little experience of working with horses - other than as a
teenager, I spent some time working with my Aunt who is a horse physio. I
wonder if anyone could give me some advice or pointers on how best to use
Reiki on horses? Are there any books or websites that could offer me some
practical, 'hands on' advice? Any help would be very much appreciated....It looks as though I'm being given a big push to do this, so I can't hang around and think about it for much longer, I need to get out there and start doing it (I've already spent a year or so thinking about it!).

Gerhard: After I started to do Reiki I all of a sudden did not like meat anymore than the same thing happened with chicken and Fish, I do eat dairy product lots of nuts and fruit and veggies. I just stopped drinking coffee for no apparent reason and very seldom have a glass of Champagne where previously I would have two glasses of red wine every evening. I believe that the Reiki energy gently steered me into that direction. But I also believe that that is not for every body some people need the meat and no one should force themselves to become a Vegetarian if it is for the highest good for you it will happen.

Lloyd: I am not a subscriber to Reiki-0ne but a friend sends it to my wife as a matter of interest. Which I read as a matter of interest and to further increase my knowledge of other peoples views on Happenings and how to elevate some of the suffering that afflicts the worlds population. I have long been an open minded person for all thing of un-explainable nature... to place a temporary name on it.. "Cause and Effects".. nothing hard and fast about the name, its just a title for filing of a thought. In the latest copy of Reiki-one you talk about.. of all the happenings of late , the Storms Tsunami Earthquake Typhoon etc and that we should send healing energy to The Earth to try and help soothe and ease the worlds pain. Now I do not wish people to misinterpret or misconstrue and thereby become agitated over what has occurred to me and how I have interpreted the thought process as to a physical equation of events. And think I am against what has been said for helping the world. Far from it.. for over the years I have seen the so called "Impossible " achieved many times over. During one of my musing sessions on the worlds ills, a thought came to mind. We have Earth send Every Saturday morning and it grows larger and larger every week as more and more people join in. Now if we are sending all this good effective energy to the earth for the Earths benefit, is there not a possibility we may be over doing it... like all the dumpings, pollution, military experiments etc, and that the earth cannot take so much in such large doses at one time and is reacting a little, like when we take on too much to eat or too much medication.. there is an adverse reaction. If you send too much voltage down a cable it blows the fuse or burns out the wiring... taking the earth as the cable and we send all this power of well being down it and it travels to its centre as well as the atmosphere what do we know of the cause and effects of this for as you said in your news letter there is no feed back, in fact nothing to say either way that this thought has any substance as to being what is causing the ills of mother Nature, but it is an intriguing one to me. I tend toward the 'outrageous hypothesis' and the Inverse Square Law theorems for every thing that has a tendency to change from the norm of established thought on matters.. as like on the thoughts.. on and about that other solar space-ship the planet Mars. Where those of NASA and others are changing their view point to a different angle of view and seeing something entirely different to that of 2-300 years ago. Could Reiki Energy be that powerful a stimulant that it can stir up the Earths natural defense immune systems ,like that of our own bodies defense mechanisms when something alien invades its inner space, it comes in to being to combat the "virus" to eject it. In the Earths case the Universal energy that was sent stirred up the internal core and caused an upset or the atmosphere to be disruptive. This is only a musing of thought not as I said a hard and fast thought and not to be considered as something out of those dark ages of lacking knowledge to explain things.. but an exploratory search for enlightenment as to what the 'X' power of Reiki , which is Universal has and its cause and effect on our interstellar space ship planet in the physical sense.
So instead of us prescribing the infusion of massive over and reactive doses perhaps we should lower the dosage so that the Earths body can absorb the lesser intake more easily and not upset the balance with knee jerk reaction until such time as education on the matter penetrates all of human brains to the correct regular amount to alleviate natures ills ... it certainly does make one think and appreciate the power of Reiki if the hypothesis has a confirming analysis factoring.

Last issue's question came from Bianca: I have a question and wonder what opinions people have about this: If someone suffers from parasites in the intestine is it possible to give reiki? Or will the reiki energy also go to the parasite and make the parasite stronger? I wonder about this, because when a pregnant woman gets a reiki treatment this is also helping the baby. Maybe not so nice of me to compare a baby with a parasite, but I really don't know what to think of
this.

David: Regarding parasites, if your intent is that the person experience
optimum health, and that dis-ease or disorder be cleared, that is
sufficient. Just use non-specific, positive intent -- about what is
best for the person -- so that the Divine wisdom inherent in the Reiki
can do what is most appropriate. I would exude an intent something like this. "I offer reiki for your highest good. That within your life and experience, only light and
love (and if you are comfortable with religions terminology) and the
will of God, are served. ...To be grateful for all lessons learned
and that all conditions that no longer serve our highest and best good
are done/cleared/healed." Something like that. Adjust the wording to
what is optimum for your intent for the session. I also suggest that we all keep in mind the attitude/belief that non-specific positive intent is always best. The more specific our intent, the greater the possibility that we (with our good intentions, but imperfect human knowledge) my be limiting the session, or working at cross purposed with the (IMHO) Divine wisdom of the Reiki.

Rick: I'm sorry but I had to laugh at the thought of a baby being a parasite - this led me to the thought that my teenage daughters seem to continue in this role. This of course made me realise how much of a "parasite" I was to my own parents, and I'm sure to others in my life. (GRIN) Anyway, I think in terms of the host and the parasite, that Reiki would definitely benefit both. The host - in terms of releasing the parasite, and the parasite - moving on to greener pastures; or at least in "knowing" it has fulfilled its purpose - that of notifying the host of imbalances that have led to the parasite being able to take hold - and the parasite may now release its hold.

Kathy: In response to your question regarding reiki and parasites in the intestine, I received the following information from my Reiki guide. "The parasite will not receive the reiki energy. The parasite will be eliminated if it is harmful to the body. All that is needed is for the practitioner to include the intent to eliminate the harmful bacteria from this being and return their system to normal functioning. This is true for all healing requests. The Reiki guide will see that it is done properly."

Tina-Lorraine: Just a thought from me to Bianca, who asked if Reiki done on a person suffering from parasites would strengthen those parasites: honestly, I don't
know. But on a common-sense level, I think we are looking here at the body
as a whole, and possibly if there is a desire to get rid of parasites, then
we should channel our reiki in that direction. As for pregnant clients, I myself believe that the mother and baby are
"one", so it would not be appropriate to think of the fetus as a parasite,
but to treat both as one entity. Hope this helps.

Hope: I believe that if you do Reiki on a person with parasites all you need to do is intend that the Reiki be for the person's highest good. It isn't in their highest good to have parasites in their body. The only time I've ever heard or read of being careful with Reiki was when the Reiki practitioner is ill. In this case, they might want to wait until they're feeling better so that their intention is purely on the receiver and not on how awful they feel. This is not to say it's not possible to do Reiki when you're sick...but it's preferable to wait until the giver/sender is well. I've done it while sick for my husband's headaches with no ill effects.

Ronak: Well being a reiki practitioner u must be knowing that it's an energy which is used to bring life so of course it will help the baby in the embryo of a pregnant lady and u must have seen that reiki given ladies babies are for sure different and with high intellect, well u for sure can give reiki for that parasite in the intestine, just take solar plexus, pancreas, livers, and yeah it wont give life to parasite but it will heal it,,, and it can do anyways for reiki is very flexible it will either increase the strength of ur WBC and than body will take care of it, and things will come out of the natures call or anyway,, but for sure it won't nourish it ! hope this suggestion might help ,, with love and light always for all the reiki channels.

Barbara: In re will parasites also be Reiki-ed. If the intent is that the parasites be removed that will happen. Since Reiki heals from the source of the problem, the problem (parasites) will be eliminated. I also "violet flame" myself so as to remove any negative energies.

Gael: Well, Bianca, some years back a student of mine reported having given Reiki
to a boy with intestinal parasites and with the result that in two days the
parasites were eliminated without fuss or muss. I hope this helps.

Catherine: I have not
practiced Reiki long and I am only at the first degree. However,
I've always been told that the energy of Reiki does not to be
directed by us, while intentions may help, the energy itself knows
where to go and what to do, it is coming from a source that is higher
or more encompassing than we are as individuals. Thus, in a pregnant
woman, the energy "knows" that it is also intended to help the baby,
but in the case of a parasite, the energy would "know" it is causing
the body harm and would seek to strengthen the body to fight this.

Chaitanya: with reference to your query, what i would like to point out is giving reiki
is not merely switching on a heater or something. There are certain directed
feelings associated with each time we give reiki to someone. When a pregnant
woman gets reiki, the reason it also benefits her child is that her child is
always connected to her by positive energy. She always thinks good towards
it. This is not the case for a parasite. However, i strongly think that if
we give reiki in the above said case, it WILL NOT KILL the parasites but
will help our body to be stronger and tougher to fight against it. So, in
this case, my opinion is it is advisable to give reiki as it is strictly a
POSITIVELY DIRECTED ENERGY.

Next issue's question comes from several people – I get emails on a regular basis asking for advice in applying Reiki for different ailments. Thought I'd toss a few of them out to all of you for your comments.

Deepa: I completed reiki level I in May 2004 and Level II around 3 months back.I would like to treat a person who has a psoriasis problem.He is a 59 year old man and has this problem for the last 4-5 years.Can you please advise how should i go about doing this treatment, should I start with 'touch' and then 'distant' reiki or just distant reiki... what precautions should I take?

Uma: I like to know how i can help someone with eye problems - retina detachment. What areas should i focus on for treatment. I have completed level ii (reiki).

Lorraine: I have been practicing Reiki since 2001, and I absolutely love it . Unfortunately I have been getting sick lately, flue and fevers. ( I have been getting sick quite often ) When I do Reiki on myself it does not seem to help, I am also very low on energy.. any advice ? I would really appreciate it .

Lynn: I am reiki 2 and have been for the past 2 1/2 years. I would like to heal
people with mental health problems. Some people I speak to have concerns
over this. Can you give me any advice please?

Just for Fun

A young man, who was also an avid golfer, found himself
with a few hours to spare one afternoon. He figured if he
hurried and played very fast, he could get in 9 holes before
he had to head home. Just as he was about to tee off, an
old gentleman shuffled onto the tee and asked if he could
accompany the young man as he was golfing alone. Not
being able to say no, he allowed the old man to join him.

To his surprise, the old man played fairly quickly. He
didn't hit the ball far, but plodded along consistently
and didn't waste much time.

Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man
found himself with a tough shot. There was a large pine
tree right in front of his ball and directly between his
ball and the green.

After several minutes of debating how to hit the shot,
the old man finally said, "You know, when I was your
age, I'd hit the ball right over that tree."

With that challenge placed before him, the youngster swung
hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree
trunk and it thudded back on the ground not a foot from
where it had originally lay.

The old man offered one more comment, "Of course, when I
was your age, that pine tree was only 3 feet tall."
