Since this is a long issue, I'll keep my column short and simply share a favorite Japanese proverb with you:

“One kind word can warm three winter months."

Wishing you a wonderful week filled with light, love, and laughter. Be safe, my friends.

Reader's Corner

Seydi: in one of your articles you mention you know a Muslim reiki master. Could
you please give his/her contact info to me. I am a Muslim myself and I would
like to contact him. I am interested in reiki and would like to become a
reiki master. (ed. note: would the person Seydi is referring to please contact me and I'll pass your email on).

Ashok: Thank you very much for your wonderful newsletter. I felt really happy to read the suggestions from so many people for my problem ("no-change" when I give Reiki - newsletter 102404). Thanks to all for your suggestions. I will surely put them into practice and share the results with you. This goes on to show that no Reiki practitioner is alone in this vast world. He/she can share his/her Reiki practice, get suggestions from experienced people and also guide people new to Reiki. In the 110704 edition, one of our friends, Ed, had suggested to help me if my photograph is given. Kindly let me know his email address so that I can send it to him. Many Thanks once again.....(ed. note: ed, if you contact me, I'll forward ashok your email addy)

Lynne: IN answer to your opening page about peoples lives changing: The day after my Reiki II attunement, a friend who is also a good fortune teller said I'd be moving. I said there was no way I was leaving my dream house, so it must mean changing jobs again. A year later I was sold up and moving to a flat in Kent for an osteopathy course!! Reiki or a mid-life crisis??? I think probably the former.

toliak: Comment on what Rachel said about healing dead people. I heal the dead regularly, have been doing so since being attuned to Reiki II. I do believe it is my duty to do so. I have always been able to 'sense' souls. One of my earliest memories (when I was about 5 years old) is of waking up in the middle of the night crying, because I was scared. Of course my parents thought it was a nightmare. but it wasn't. It was this feeling of sensing, even seeing people I did not recognize or know. As I grew older, I learned to accept that these things were happening to me, and not to others, and I kept most of these thoughts to myself. My fear diminished as I grew older, but did not vanish completely. Then I learned Reiki, and started healing my family members who had passed away. But I still did not make the connection to heal all the souls that I kept sensing. It took my Guru (Spiritual Teacher) who through our conversations suggested that I send healing energy to these souls who were troubling me (but who in fact, were troubled themselves). I started doing that, and you know what? .... the souls simply loved the healing ... and they took what they needed and were off! And so it is that I am no longer afraid of these poor souls, just continue sending them healing. Like all healers, I too sent to all the people who died in the Twin Towers tragedy, and experienced much of their pain and sorrow and fear at the time of dying (could write about this another time). Healing the dead is very rewarding, for I feel that I am doing something for those who are unable to ask us but who need it very much. Who knows? ... Maybe our souls will also need this healing when we have transitioned.

PLEASE NOTE: Several of you commented on the last issue's Notes from the Editor. Based on some of those comments, I'd like to stress that I don't personally believe other modalities 'pollute' Reiki. I combine many practices within my use of Reiki. Perhaps 'pollute' was too strong of a word to use, but if you look at where we were three years ago, when that column was written, many Reikis felt that was exactly what was going on.

Chuck, on last issues Notes: I do not think that other modalities pollute Reiki. Personally I combine Reiki with Applied Kinesiology as well as Iridology, and do not feel that the combination in anyway pollutes any of the others. Whether Reiki is practice a single modality or combined with others it is just as beneficial.

Joan: Your "Notes from the Editor" regarding Reiki energies and the subtle shifts was most interesting. I imagine each type of therapy has its own energy. But - have you ever thought of or heard about a combined energy? I had a group seminar on EFT - Emotional Freedom Therapy. This is a method of tapping on the acupressure points on the head, body and hands while making a statement. This method is used to reduce pain, stop bad habits, etc. You do three rounds of tapping. I noticed that after this three rounds of tapping I felt energy gently rotating throughout my entire body. No one at the seminar mentioned feeling anything like this so I assumed I was sensitive since I was a Reiki Master. I didn't give it too much thought at that point. However, before going to bed I did the three rounds of tapping, felt the energy and then went to bed. I usually do Reiki on myself while in bed so I opened the Reiki and placed my hands over my eyes. The heat from my hands grew so hot that I became uncomfortable had to remove them and place them on my body instead. I would imagine it was the combined energy of the EFT and the Reiki that intensified the experience. Have you ever experienced this sort of combined energy? Ever heard anything like this? I give my daughter Reiki on a regular basis and she is finely tuned to it. I am going to do EFT first (without telling her) and then give her a Reiki session and see if she notices a change. I am also going to try sending this double energy to my friend Lilly (also a Reiki Practitioner) and see if she feels a difference. I'd be very interested in everyone's thoughts on this.

Maggie Batt: In response to your random thoughts...I believe that Mother Earth and we, her caretakers are going through tremendous shifts in consciousness. We are coming back to a state of true being, understanding our connection to the divine and that we are all one. With the birthing of new advanced spirits often called Indigo, Crystal or Rainbow children, the Earth's inhabitants, will be changing to a more psychic, and spiritually connected group. Notice the large eyes in some of these children (I have two!) and how they look at you with such knowing. These spirits are aptly named by the color their aura radiates. Indigo vs. crystal vs. rainbow. All of our bodies are shifting our energy vibration to a higher frequency and eventually becoming rainbow people like the original inhabitants of Mother Earth. Reiki operates out of our heart chakra, and is said to be called the Emerald light. As each of us go through our own spiritual enlightenment, our bodies become "awakened" usually one chakra at a time. It's best to start on the lower three chakras (physical, emotional and mental) as we are in these bodies to enjoy these earthly pleasures. We open up to the energy of the Earth and become grounded. As we release the muck of the universe and things learn to literally slide off of us, we connect to the higher divine energies of the upper chakras. Reiki is evolving. Our healing abilities are opening up to higher dimensions. Our spirits have a strong desire to learn more, which means a mixing of modalities. I believe it is a mandatory and natural transition that we are all going through. We test and try things that help us channel more efficiently and quicker. We are in our bodies to constantly evolve and learn. Even the greatest yogi who levitates while meditating is going through spiritual transitions. Mahalo nui loa (thank you from the heart).

Kathy: Here are some thoughts based on your question of how Reiki is changing: Reiki is an evolving practice and is as creative and limitless as we are. Yet, with any ‘additional’ treatment approaches that we use, we need to discern that Reiki is at the core, and that its stream of energy is an adjunct to whatever else we are doing. If we use crystals, Reiki is the amplifier. If we are doing psychic surgery, Reiki is the catalyst for getting to the root cause and of our power to do so. If we are meditating, Reiki is the transporter to higher realms and dimensions. Now, if we are teaching Reiki, it is important to be clearly teaching only Reiki – especially at the first and second degree foundation levels. People need this solid foundation to build upon. It is like trying to be able to move forward in life when our root chakra - and the associated life issues – are a ‘mess’. A solid foundation and pure understanding of Reiki must come first.

Ors: I have a few thoughts about other modalities "polluting" Reiki. Among other things, I am a music therapist. One way of describing music therapy is that it is a complementary therapy that can be used in conjunction with other therapies or used alone. When MT is used with other therapies it can reinforce the other therapies and the work those therapists do. As an intern music therapist, I was working with a physical therapist's assistant. We went to see an elderly woman who was recovering from a hip replacement, which as I understand is a very painful process. The PT's assistant simply wanted to do some basic stretches with the woman to improve the movement in the hip joint. With the patient's permission, I began to sing a song that was familiar to her, while playing my guitar, and asked her to sing with me. When the song was over, the patient reported that while singing, she still knew her pain was there, but she didn't mind it as much. The PT's assistant reported that the woman had physically taken part in the exercise instead of letting the assistant do all the work. Did I think what the PT's assistant was doing "polluted" my music therapy? Certainly not! Do you think she thought that the music therapy took away from the PT work she was doing? Quite the contrary, she told me that her patient cooperated more willingly! Yes, music therapy can stand alone, but depending on the specific situation, it can be a lot more effective when other healing modalities are used at the same time. Why can't Reiki be viewed in a similar way? Let us think for a moment about evolution. If we are talking pure, unpolluted Reiki, the way Usui practiced it, then consider this. Please understand the ideas I'm sharing are from my own research from various sources and I'm not sure I can direct you to all of them if you ask. If we are speaking of Usui's original practice then we are talking about no levels of Reiki, only a single attunement to what we now refer to as Master level. We are talking about no recommended hand positions, we are NOT talking about chakras. If Master Usui did not teach about chakras or hand positions and only gave one attunement instead of the now traditional three, then where did all of these ideas come from? Evolution. It is my understanding that Hayashi developed the hand positions and somewhere between Hayashi and Takata the idea of levels of attunement and charging for Reiki developed. I recently received my Master/Teacher certificate. When I began to study Reiki and saw that everyone seems to have channeled a new form of Reiki or a new booster attunement, I thought, "What a bunch of hooey!" Isn't Reiki, Reiki? Are people just trying to make money and claiming that they have channeled this or that? Then I remembered an idea that I read about in one of James Redfield's "Celestine" books; the idea of spiritual and human evolutionary information coming into human consciousness. A crude explanation of this idea is that as humans evolve spiritually, and vibrate at higher and higher levels, more information is able to come into consciousness from spiritual realms. This information is shared by soul groups. If this concept of spiritual information coming into consciousness when humans evolve to a certain point is true, then it stands to reason that the way people use Reiki will evolve too. One day a Reiki practitioner, with a knowledge of crystals thinks, "Hey, crystals have energy...Reiki is energy...I'll bet I could use the two of them together! And most likely it was not just one person. But the people who first started using Reiki with crystals told their Reiki friends and used the crystals with their clients, and soon we see instructions for creating Reiki crystal grids and attuning crystals...why there's even Reiki crystal grids at the North and South Poles! Of course certain basic practices must be adhered to for Reiki of any form to be Reiki. The first and probably most important rule about Reiki is that Reiki can do no harm. So if you're surfing the web and come across someone promoting "Pedophile Reiki" or "Herion laced Cocaine Reiki" it is probably best not to investigate it too deeply. Probably a better idea not to request an attunement either! But positive, life affirming couplings with Reiki like Karuna or Medicine Reiki; things that co-exist with the "do no harm" spirit of Reiki...how can that be polluting this wonderful gift? Ultimately everyone needs to define their own truth. A couple of years ago, distance attunements sounded like a scam to me. After some time passed, it became part of my truth about Reiki. Different people will connect differently with different forms of the energy. Do not just accept that one form of Reiki is more powerful or better than another just because a web site says so. Make up your own mind as to what works best for you, what you are drawn to, and what resonates with you. And don't judge other peoples' Reiki truth, or even their personal truth for that matter. Who is to say that their truth is any better or worse than yours?

Reiki Experience

Comments

Responses to last issue’s experiences:

For Jo:

Sylvia: I can really understand your concerns, especially "...it can open doors..." As I read your message it occurred to me that you should study energy healing from a Christian point of view and ask your mother-in-law to accompany you sometimes in session work. Let the Reiki energy talk. I am glad to meet another Castaneda reader. "Journey to Ixtlan" is on my recommended bibliography for second level students and has been since I started teaching 8 years ago. You might find some type of energy work like chi kung or tai chi helpful for grounding, which helps you evaluate what you experience in a session. Much love and support in your Path!

How did YOU find Reiki?

New Experiences

Barbara: Last weekend I completed my Level 111 Reiki . Yeah!! It has taken me
3 years to go to level 111 an am very pleased . To make a story short, I
was leaving my acupuncturist's office 3 years ago when I noticed a business
card on a table with the name Nora Squires Reiki , The Healing Circle; went home called her ... the rest is history. I have been able to see colors since day one and they are becoming brighter and more frequent. I could be walking down the road, sitting at my desk, looking at a person, no special time or place. Although I love having the ability to see colors. I am still questioning why? Yes I have asked why, asked to have it revealed in my dreams but to no avail. I have also seen portal a few times!!!

Barbara S: My daughter and I took Reiki I in August and Reiki II in October. I Reiki-ed myself twice a day and three days a week we Reiki-ed each other. I had been diagnosed with epidural lipomatosis (fatty build up attached to the spinal cord due to steroids prescribed for asthma). The myelogram was very clear. I had a pinch in my spinal cord that looked "wasp-waisted." The pain in my back, legs and feet was horrific. I continued to Reiki myself twice a day and also whenever anything hurt. I started to feel better mentally and physically. I used guided imagery to have God's pacman chew up the fat, then envisioned it melting like candle wax, and finally I was almost "compelled" to push out my elbows like I was trying to make elbow room. About six weeks later I had an MRI done and the epidural lipomatosis was no longer there. A great deal of the pain is now gone. Now there is only a cyst pushing on a nerve root to be Reiki-ed away. I know this will come to pass. I notice that I have more energy, and not just from lack of pain. I notice that I am able to see things more clearly. I have more intuition. There is a definite change, not only in my outlook (which was always pretty positive), but in my very being. It became clear to me after Reiki I that I had been searching and seeking Reiki all my life. I had finally come home. I never remember dreams so when I had the same dream twice in one night and remembered it, I knew it was important. In the dream a friend and I were in front of the church and he was telling me about his back. In the morning I called his wife and she told me that he had bone spurs that were very painful. He went to his sister-in-law, the chiropractor, for four treatments and then he was out of pain. She told him his body healed itself. I took that to mean I should give my body time to heal itself and rescheduled my visit to the pain clinic for January. I will let everyone know how it turns out later.

Tomlinson: I was perusing the web and saw your site and have had a question that has been bothering me for a long time and have not found anyone that was willing/able? to give me an answer and thought you might. Ever since I did chi kung about 6 years ago (in which I had a high degree of success in terms of energy flow), I occasionally get a sudden, deafening ringing in my ear or center of brain. After paying careful attention to when this happens, it usually seems to happen when someone around me is angry or annoyed with me or possibly lying to me? The ringing is followed by some mental confusion at times, usually an hour later. Have you ever heard of ringing like this caused by such things? I have heard of certain witches who talk about psychically "zapping" people? Am I on the right track here, or is this caused by some purely "physical" cause or EM radiation in my environment?

Up for Discussion

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue. Have a question you'd like to get input on? Send it in!

Last issue's question came from Barbara: Could you tell me more about this "negative" energy some healers feel they are coming in contact with.....how does it feel, where is it coming from......should you ask for protection before each Reiki session? Also, sometimes, I get a client who finds it very hard to relax....their body is relaxed, but the mind is busy thinking of business, of things to be done etc.....any ideas for helping that person relax more would be greatly appreciated.

Prashant: Yes the feeling of a negative energy comes on if the client is in a very deep pain or sorrow. Always try to be steady with your thought flow. If possible try and speak to your client. Any disease is a result of deep suppressed emotions and lack of opportunity to express oneself. If you feel the need do an Aura cleansing and can play some Music to smooth the environment. Negative energy is more in clients who have no one in the life to open up, or one who is very shy or feels that whatever he wishes is always wrong. Such clients tend to create bigger patterns of thoughts which attract lesser and lower energy. At that time you can intend Reiki to all such areas where your intuition takes you. You can do this protection procedure before and after a reiki session. Imagining Reiki to be in all directions: RIGHT, BACK, LEFT, FRONT, BELOW, UP AND ALL AROUND YOU. imagine yourself in the protective ball of Reiki through out the process of healing.

Lynne: You could try some deep breathing techniques with your clients. This will definitely help to relax them more. Just start with a count of one - in for one, hold for one, release for one. Go up to a count, hold & release of five. After five, I ask that they take one more deep breath and just relax and let go. When they're concentrating on counting and breathing, it stops the mind from being busy :-). I personally bring in protection whilst giving Reiki, for both myself and the recipient. There are many ways of doing this, prayer, visualisation and intent. Try them out and see what suits you best.

Denise: Negative energy: I have encountered negative things in two different ways. I cannot say for sure that it is negative energy, rather it may be a negative reaction. One time, I developed a headache while treating someone who had one. Another time, I experienced pain in my arms and wrists. I consulted
with my Reiki teacher on both of these. She has told me this: On occasion
you may find that you are experiencing symptoms from your recipient. The
best thing to do is fully acknowledge the symptom (in this case the
headache), and then ask for release or for it to leave. Regarding the
arm and wrist pain. This may be the level of "flow" of Reiki. If the draw is
great, or suddenly you happen upon some blockage in the client, it may
temporarily cause pain. In my situation, I noted the pain, but continued
with the treatment and it did eventually clear before I moved to the next
hand position. These are the only negative things I have experience while
giving a treatment. My belief is that, as Reiki is love, pure and
unconditional, it is improbable that you would attract anything that would
bring you harm. On helping a recipient relax: If there is tension, the suggestion for some slow deep breaths from the recipient works wonders for me every time.

Barbara: To answer your question about the energy, It feels like I have an over abundance of coffee in my system!!! The awareness of the flow of energy in my body is constant. Since my attunements last weekend it feels more masculine than feminine if you understand my meaning, and once again stronger, denser. I absolutely adore being a practitioner and witnessing the beautiful results. People from work now come to me for headache relief among other things. I have a treatment room in my home but am working full time. I do the best I can. Personally I believe Reiki is directly from God. It is simple, uncomplicated, but if anybody is moved to combine it with whatever modality do so. We as practitioners are blessed with discernment ,trust!!!

Next issue's question comes from Angela: Have a question i'd be very interested to have opinion on.....I am level 2, my partner is level 1. Recently I felt somewhat ungrounded and unbalanced in myself and asked my partner if I could give him a full treatment. Usually my hands feel warm and tingly and the body sensation is pleasant. However this time I could barely feel any energy coming through my hand and after a very short time my whole body felt cold (really chilled to the bone) and i could feel energy shifts as 'shudders' all over my body but the sensation wasn't very comfortable. I finished the whole treatment but didn't feel any better (very different from the usual). My partner said he could feel the energy as normal and felt warm and tingly etc. After this he gave me a treatment. As he touched my third eye and throat he had a sensation of light pain in his hands but it passed within a couple of minutes on each chakra. After a 20 minute treatment to all chakras i felt much better but we are both perplexed on these issues:

* Why did my treatment on him not work well on me?

* why did I feel cold and 'shudders'?

* why did he have the sensation of pain in his hands over some chakras?

* What can we do if this happens again?

Many thanks for an outstanding online link to this beautiful life changing energy. I will contiue to watch your pages with great interest.

Growing your Reiki Practice

Responses to last issue's marketing question:

Gary: I have been doing Reiki for 11 years and a Reiki Master/ Teacher since 2000. What I have found, that as soon as I put an ad in the local paper, in no time other Reiki adds appeared. I put flyers Re Reiki Treatment and Teaching; in no time, the same thing happened. With all this, nothing happened. I asked the source to help me and I (We) were directed to the internet. Now I am treating people with Reiki and also Teaching Reiki. There are many Reiki Web sites for your free posting, you might like to try. May your future with Reiki be successful.
