Some random thoughts, pulled from the ReikiOne.com newsletter of 3 years ago (almost to the day):

It seems that Reiki is continually being shown as an impetus for change in our lives. In the First Degree of traditional Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, we're taught that the energy never changes, its intensity stays the same no matter how far along we go in our training/use of it. But I know I've seen and felt the shifts in my use of Reiki. Some subtle, some not so subtle. When I first began using Reiki, I noticed only small simple things - my hands turning hot or cold, varying degrees of relaxation in my clients.

Whether or not it's the energy that changes, or our perception/use of it, I can't say for sure. I do know, though, that almost everyone I talk to has felt the shifts in intensity of Reiki. Practitioners are also being led to open up to the new possibilities around them, incorporating various other types of healing with the energy i.e. Gemstones, Reflexology, Acupressure, Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, the list goes on. What I personally see/feel has led me to incorporate changes into my practice as well. I do chakra balancing, body scans (a technique I learned in the Silva Method of Mind Development many years ago), and almost every session I have some intuitive information I feel compelled to pass on to the client.

There also seems to be two schools of thought developing along with the shifts in practice - those who would keep Reiki free of any outside influence and those who would work in whatever they feel compelled to. Does this incorporation of other modalities 'pollute' Reiki? Or does it help bring forth stronger energy? While it's not our place to sit in judgment of what others do or don't do, I believe only time will give us the answers to these questions . . . . Any thoughts?

Reader's Corner

Scott: Thanks for the email. It is fun to read about other peoples Reiki adventures. I am recently attuned Reiki II, and things have opened up to me on levels I could never image. Hands on and distance healing have both been amazing experiences. The ability to give someone this wonderful gift has been tremendously fulfilling for me. I look forward to reading more.

Dina, on last issue's Discussion: Regarding Ashok's question about attunements: do all of your students report no change, or just some of them? If it's some, you are doing fine! If it's all, I would suggest that Ashok receive another round of attunements. I have "re" attuned people expecting to find a familiar energy in their field when doing so, to find nothing. Those same people have had their first experience of heat and tingling and a sense of Reiki energy after the new attunement. This has happened enough times that I wonder if they were truly attuned the first time, and I think not properly. But hey, that's just my observation! I don't really know what is going on - I can only examine it and wonder.

Karen, also for Ashok: I learnt Reiki I in 2001 & gave it a year before learning Reiki II, but even though I was practicing Reiki on a regular basis, was still worried if it was a 'real thing' (as those of us who do give healing, by what ever means, do have to unfortunately tolerate so much stigma & negativity) - this was confirmed for me several days later when I was sitting at my desk at work chatting with a colleague, I had a bag of 'Skittle' sweets (different coloured candy) held between my hands, I opened the bag - as I tipped the sweets into my left palm I said to my colleague - 'Mmmmm, the purple ones are my favourite!' both our jaws hit the floor - all the purple candy were in my hand & all the other colour candy remained in the bag!........if ever there was any proof needed!!!!

Comments? Suggestions? Complaints? They don't have to be about the newsletter, just about Reiki or other healing topics. Be heard! Send them in!

Reiki Experience

Comments

Responses to last issue’s experiences:

For Neil

Karen: This is exactly the way I feel when I am doing distance healing. Sometimes there is hardly any sensation at all, but other times I get the same peaceful nap that you described. When I awake I can still feel the energy tingling between my hands and I wake feeling content and at peace.

For Michele

Bonnie: When you give Reiki to your friends it is a collaborative experience with you and your Reiki and your friend and her Reiki. Perhaps when you give Reiki to yourself you have overlooked connecting with your inner healer for the collaborative benefit. Another thought: Are you receptive to accept whatever happens or doesn't happen when you give Reiki to your friends yet expect a definite outcome when you give yourself Reiki?

How did YOU find Reiki?

New Experiences

Tina-Lorraine: I'm here to tell you that reiki distance healing does work! My beautiful daughter suffered a rollerblading accident 5 years ago (she wasn't wearing a helmet or any body protection ---- rollerbladers please note! ) She had also been a divorced (single) mom for seven years. Her father and I prayed and meditated every day for years that she would recover and achieve her heart's desire. Well, this year she is enrolled in university, studying for her teaching degree, her two children are well-adjusted and strong, and she has met the man of her dreams. Her wedding will take place in January. Reiki really works. Julia's specialist told her that she" should have died", but we know better. Her sense of taste and smell disappeared after the accident, but now she is beginning to have " flashes of taste when she eats. NEVER GIVE UP is my advice. The Universe has its own time scale. What you give out, you will receive. Even if it seems slow by our human reckoning. The Mother and Father of All are great and wonderful!

Jo: I am currently studying Reiki 1 and am really enjoying it. It's opened my sights and I feel very comfortable in that. I have some worries too, I am worried about negative influences/'bad spirits', or getting into situations that my level of experience is not ready for. The people around me haven't got a clue about what i'm talking about and I don't want to sound 'crazy' when I start talking of my concerns with them. I spoke to my mother-in-law who is an Anglican christen, and she started talking about demons and that the thought of Reiki made her stomach turn and her skin crawl because she believes it can open doors and that I have unprotected children in my house and they and myself could be at risk...This has scared me, especially about my children. I do feel protected, very much so and also confident in the abilities i'm being taught to use. But I can't help but think there's a dot of truth...or maybe a different angle of the same truth. I have read some Don Juan literature and that also told of gateways and letting in 'demons'. Can you help me here with these worries please. I don't want to stop my learning as I believe it's changed me too much to want to return to the place I was before.

Rachel: Thank you so much for the constant reminder to bring me back to the beauty of Reiki, I thank reiki too all the time! Just wanted to know if any others have had experience with reiki-ing dead people. I had a friend tragically murdered and on the same day, when I found out, my first thought was 'oh my god, she must be so shocked, she needs some Reiki'. I think I was Reiki one at the time, I don't remember. But not knowing anything about Reiki when attuned, I took it literally when I was told by my Reiki master that time and distance are no obstacle to reiki. So I gave my friend a treatment. I had some physical sensations and was able to describe where her injuries were to my sister who was very shocked when called on to help with funeral make-up, and saw confirmation ( I was too! ). I have since become more familiar with the sensation of almost like sharing someone's energetic state for a short period and being able to pin point either when or where they have pain, I think this is one of the gifts Reiki has given me. So since then I have developed a tradition of saying good bye to my dead friends in this way and I often get like a clear image and sense of them in a dream sometime after. For me it's the best closure, a see-you-again, rather than good-bye. I have lost a number of people, so I also get the chance to heal my hurt and loss. Just wondering if any others have any comments or feedback on this subject. Let's never forget our privilege to be alive at this time with access to such a wonderful gift.

Up for Discussion

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue. Have a question you'd like to get input on? Send it in!

Last issue's question came from Robin: I'd love to hear some tips/suggestions on how others facilitate distance healing. Do they use a "prop" in place of the person? Do they write their name out? Do they just visualize (which I have a hard time with, getting better I hope!) Can you send distance healing to multiple recipients at one time? Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to strengthen this aspect of my Reiki journey.

Karen: When I am doing a distance healing, I envision a perfect white light, like a little star, in my mind this represents the persons life energy. Around this life energy a sphere of energy like a force field appears, feeding into the white light of energy. It actually feels like I am holding a rubber ball between my hands as this energy puts a little resistance up when I move my hands a little closer. This image and feeling of this ball between my hands has only started happening most recently. I have been channeling Reiki for 10 years now, it is an ever changing, yet constant force in my life.

Next issue's question comes from Barbara: Could you tell me more about this "negative" energy some healers feel they are coming in contact with.....how does it feel, where is it coming from......should you ask for protection before each Reiki session? Also, sometimes, I get a client who finds it very hard to relax....their body is relaxed, but the mind is busy thinking of business, of things to be done etc.....any ideas for helping that person relax more would be greatly appreciated.

Article: The Power of Touch by Frank Schuster, Reiki Level 3 Practitioner

A leper came to him begging Jesus, and kneeling he said to him, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, "I am willing. Be clean!" Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. Mark 1:40-42

This account of Jesus healing the leper is a powerful one as I think of the power of touch as it relates to my experience with Reiki. When we lovingly touch someone with the intent to heal, something wonderful and inexplicable happens. What happens is healing at some level – maybe not immediate and complete healing as was the case when Jesus touched the leper. Yet, there is a lesson here for us besides the fact that Jesus performed miracle healings.

Perhaps Jesus did this to show us that we also can help someone heal. The healing in the book of Mark occurred on two levels - one was the healing of prejudice, condemnation, taboos and restrictions that so commonly plague the human condition. Can you imagine the voices of the bystanders warning Jesus not to come near the leper, much less touch him? Yet, through all of the clamor and prejudice, Jesus reached out and touched him. The marvel of it all! I am so glad that Jesus touched him because in doing so he touched me! He cancelled all the taboos, all the fear and said, ”I am willing. Be clean!” Secondly, Jesus demonstrated the power to affect a physical cure of the feared disease through touch. Clearly, he demonstrated that the hands convey the power of God.

Dare we do less than offer a healing hand to one in distress? We may not be witness to a dramatic cure, but we have great power in our hands - the power of a loving touch that we call Reiki. We can reach out to a suffering one with a healing touch and in doing so make God’s love real to that person if only for a moment. Perhaps that is enough for healing to begin in the mind and body. Through Reiki, we communicate hope and proclaim the Good News of God’s love for all people.

I believe that our societies are missing the mark by not using our God-given power of healing through Reiki. Are we willing to lovingly touch another with the intent to help heal - unconditionally and without judgment? Let us be God’s hands and reach out in love. God has given us this gift. We are His hands. This is the way and it involves us. That is what Jesus did. I intend to make it my business to emulate Jesus and leave the results to God.

Growing your Reiki Practice

A marketing question from J: I have read that some people have formed groups that go to hospitals, nursing homes, etc. to do Reiki for people. I wondered if anyone could tell me how to go about doing this. I have a few people I know who are interested in forming such a group but we need help in organizing something like this. I also wanted to know if you would charge a fee and who do you contact to get the word out. Any help would be appreciated.

Email your ideas/experiences/thoughts/pitfalls on starting and maintaining a Reiki practice.

PREDICTING THE FUTURE

A teacher asked one of the boys in her class, "Can people predict the future with cards?"

His response was, "My mother can."

The teacher replied, "Really?"

The young boy was quick to explain, "Yes, she takes one look at my report card and tells me what will happen when my father gets home."
