-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Rising out of the blindness of this world, the soul seeks enlightenment - a reunion with the source of all that is. Beneath our skin, we are all the same - muscles, tendons, pure simple love." And I remember - The Universe and us - we go back a long ways. We were together in the beginning at its birth when we were but sparks of energy. In those sparks traveled the essence of life. Coming together with other essences, souls were conceived and born and the universe gave up her children so they could grow and experience the joys of living. She sent us to the school we call life and expects nothing more in return than we learn to love and remember where we came from, to remember the spirit of her energy and share it with those around us. Because one is trying to move internal chi (ki) and generate power from the tantien (below the naval aka 2nd chakra area), this transference is necessary especially in a martial art. For reiki though, I find the double-weightedness is necessary and actually is much like the 3-circle standing qigong (chi kung), where knees are bent slightly and the energy can flow through the channels smoothly. This stance also helps you to stay centered as long as the weight remains in the center of the foot (K1 point). Locked knees can lead to losing balance and energy to be more top heavy in the body instead of rooted. BTW: I love your newsletter! Maggie Batt, also on Tai Chi: I had a Tai Chi practitioner once try to see which hand was my power hand. She was surprised to discover that my hands were completely in balance. Reiki does that. You don't have the positive and negative polarities that you would have with a Tai Chi practice. It does its thing on its own accord. In fact, it is especially important that your feet both be planted firmly into the earth, as you draw roots from your feet into the earth's core. This enables you to bring in slower, dense, healing earth energy and also release toxic energy into the earth, which is an energy recycler. Mary Ann: I sure am enjoying your ReikiOne Newsletters that have been sent for the past year! You have answered many questions I have had after taking Reiki I, II, & III. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant and the Reiki has helped in my Home Health Field for the elderly. A lot of times I just put my hand on their shoulder and the other on the back and send the healing energy. Keep up the great work in your newsletters Teri. I print out most of the newsletters because they are so useful and instructive. Many of you wrote in response to my last ‘Notes from the Editor’ column (9-12-04 issue). Here’s what you had to say! Deb: I believe that Reiki should be integrated into our daily lives and that we should use this energy in everything we do. Allow it to flow through us continually. If you integrate Reiki into your life, you don't have to "find time" to do Reiki. Life is about balance and Reiki is balance, Reiki is Unconditional Love and we can all use more of that in our daily lives. I have never felt overwhelmed with Reiki flowing through me. However, I grew up being psychic, so I am used to the energy flow. I feel it is Very Important as a Reiki Master/Teacher to take my students on a journey to not only teach them the Reiki Class, but to teach them to use Reiki. I want to teach them to integrate Reiki into their daily lives. It only makes life easier when you go with the flow. That is my motto....let it go and let if flow. Allow Reiki to flow through you all the time with the intention that you receive all that you need. If you walk in balance, then your ego will not go into a power trip. :) Also, about forcing Reiki. It doesn't work that way. The only way to manifest what you want into being is to set your intention and then to let it go. If you try to force Reiki....then it is like putting magnets together. You know how it can either attract it or push it away. When you force things (what I feel) is that it actually pushes it away. When we set our intentions and hand it over to our higher power.....that is when the magnet flips and draws it to us. As long as it is what is best for us that is. It is hard sometime to express what I see energetically. That is why I try to find something in the physical world that others can relate to, so that they can "get it". Thus the magnet analogy. Karyn: I try to use Reiki on a daily basis, whether it's on my plants, my pets, my self, my car - whatever! I like this one of your possible results: "drift in the quiet peaceful embrace of the god/goddess/universe, knowing the gift of Reiki is alive in us and that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves." Very interesting question! Thanks for a great newsletter. Bonnie: These are my reflections on your points of reflection in your Notes from the Editor: << Is Reiki something we only bring out when confronted with illness or a difficult situation? Or do we use it on a daily basis, incorporating it into our lives as easily as breathing or walking?>> Reiki is a part of my daily life similar to breathing. Inhale; exhale. Take Reiki in; let Reiki out. If Reiki is not important enough for me to use daily then it is not important for me to use at all. << To get to that place where the energy flows through us at all times . . . do you suppose that would be overwhelming or invigorating?>> Energy flowing through me at all times is a natural function like breathing, smiling, eating, grooming. <> Living every day doesn't make life less special to me. Reiki everyday enhances my life. <> Oh, I like that. Yes, that must be what it is. Dave: My perception of Reiki is we all have it within us, attuned or not...Through the attunement process we become aware of the energy and how to direct it to the "highest good"...I believe Reiki is constantly flowing within us...We can choose to harness this energy when needed, either to direc it outwardly or to heal within...The true Masters of Reiki, not to be confused with Reiki Masters, do not have to call upon Reiki to use it, rather they have become integrated with the Reiki energy and are therefore, "one", so to speak, with it...Just one person's opinion... Scott: I loved your questions in this newsletter. I've been attuned for 3+ years and am a RMT. Over the course of the last 3 years, my understanding and practice of reiki has changed dramatically. I originally learned reiki to use in response to health needs - the occasional headache, body ache, general healing. Now, 3+ years later, I've learned that reiki is more a way of life. While I've not reached the point of being constantly connected to the source, I do find myself using reiki all day long.... on many things other than health concerns. As a high school guidance counselor I frequently reiki my office in an effort to clean out negativity and to create a positive energy for anyone who enters. I use it in difficult meetings to calm upset people - simply by allowing it to flow through me and into the room. I reiki my food. I reiki the shower head so the water flows out reiki charged. In short, I've come to a point where I do less intentional channeling of reiki to a specific spot or condition and more channeling it into my life. The results have been somewhat amazing to me. I feel that I'm far more connected to spirit than ever before. My intuition has blasted open and I've become very aware of the my spirit guides and their presence with me daily. In addition to providing reiki I know provide intuitive readings for people. Rather than being overwhelming or draining... this has seemed to simplify my life. I am far less judgmental and more accepting of people. I'm better at realizing that we're all in learning situations and we each have our lessons to learn. I'm far more at peace. This has also changed the way I teach reiki. I'm very upfront with telling students that reiki is a LIFESTYLE and not just a technique. Just my perspective.... thanks for the newsletter. Stephanie Michelle: I believe that reiki is ever-present. It is not something one must think about or address in some way before it can be "switched on". If reiki means UNIVERSAL LIFE ENERGY, then how is it possible to assume there would ever be a moment when we were moving through life WITHOUT being right smack in the middle OF that energy?? We don't have to think before breathing. Why would we have to think or feel or "plug in" before the fuel that sustains us on the most basic level begins cycling? I believe that when we sit to do something delibera te,likeworkinginthescenarioofahealingsessionwithsomeone,we'reonlymoreawareofthatenergybecauseofthechoiceswe'vemadetogettothatpoint-oneofthemostobviousbeingTOperceivethatenergyonsomelevel.ReikiISspecial.It'slife.P Geoff: Thank you for the current Reikione. In answer to your questions this is my viewpoint. 1. Reiki is brought out when confronted with healing but, I also use reiki symbols when cleansing a room prior to any spiritual work such as meditation, angel work counseling etc. 2. To get to the place where energy flows through us at all times would be invigorating as long as I could harness it correctly. 3. Reiki everyday would not diminish its specialness for me and I do not think I would get into a healing or power trip. I don't think that any correctly trained Healer would ever try to force outcomes. We only exchange the reiki energy the outcome is left to a higher force than me. 4. So looking at the last sentence I am always in the quiet peaceful embrace of a higher universal energy and something that is much wiser and bigger than any of us. Greta: I believe that it is not only possible but necessary to incorporate reiki into our everyday life on a conscious level. In the steps we take and the air we breathe, the truth of it is, reiki is already there awaiting recognition and intention or focus. This is a blessing of the universe and it meant to be used. For the most part it is invigorating, yet, as with most things it does have the potential to overwhelm if not used properly. Maggie Batt: I believe that we should use Reiki every day. It doesn't have to be in the form of a hands-on treatment on self or others. Just thinking about Reiki every day will help channel this energy through you. When you are speaking of Reiki to someone who is new to it, don't your hands tingle as you talk about it? Our guides or angels who surround us always, are there just waiting for us to call on the energy...the universal energy that as Reiki practitioners we can channel so effortlessly. Reiki can be used on a daily basis, by simply praying every morning, and honoring your Reiki guides and the universe, you are connecting to that higher vibration of light energy. It can be a simple ritual or be combined with meditation, chanting, breathwork, yoga and/or a Reiki session. You can also use the symbols daily over your food, in your car as you pass neighborhoods less fortunate than yours, over your computer, over your vitamins, the list is endless. We raise our o wn energy vibration every time we ask to connect to the angelic/universal realm. When we pray, when we trace symbols, when we talk about Reiki with our palms facing up....we are connecting...our energy vibration is becoming a higher frequency. The more you channel, the easier it is to channel. Your vibration then is higher and it just feels right. You would experience your divine nature. All the murk of the universe (everyday stresses, energy vampires, etc.) would slide off of you since that is lower vibrational stuff that doesn't affect you. As far as power trips or using your will to control Reiki. I find whenever I personally get involved with what the Reiki is doing, I drain my own energy or take on (usually only for a day) the recipients physical pain or emotions. I'm a busy mom of a 3 year old and 8 month old. By being able to send Reiki a couple times a week to my family and friends, I'm keeping relationships alive and doing what I can to help people. It's s o easy, practical and doesn't take much of my time. Sending long-distance is so easy for me now. I just call on their spirit and guides, and I can immediately feel the Reiki flowing. I send it off and ask that it do its thing for 24-hours. I've learned that no matter how strong I feel that treatment is, it is completely up to the recipient to acknowledge that Reiki is working for them. It makes it very difficult to have a power trip over Reiki. I teach that Reiki can be channeled by everyone, and it is my job to make sure as many people are attuned as possible. I notice when my students receive that first attunement and begin working on each other, that they suddenly don't need my knowledge asmuchanymoresincetheynowhavetheirownknowledgetogoby.Theenergyoftherecipientandthepractitionerconnectsdeeply,andtheybecomeaoneofinformation.Theysortofgeteachotherafterthatandhaveaprofoundknowledgethatweareallone.Weareallon e. Reiki is love. That's what using Reiki daily helps you understand. Watch Health Cops: New Orleans on the FitTV channel. http://fittv.discovery.com/ I'm cast as a Reiki practitioner changing a woman's life with yoga, Reiki, meditation and much more in a 12-week period. The station keeps airing it, so the universe must be wanting that Reiki message to reach the masses. Mahalo nui loa. (Thank you from my heart). Comments? Suggestions? Complaints? Send them in! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Responses to last issue’s experiences: Jenny: To Vic: Hello, I was enjoying your great newsletter for the first time and I read Vic's letter in regards to laughing during attunement of Reiki treatments (under "New Experiences"). I personally go into uncontrollable laughing fits during Reiki Shares when it is my turn to be treated. It's a great feeling, and must be a terrific release. My face just gets soaked with the tears that flow at the same time. Its got to be good for you! My daughter also goes from giggles to gales of laughter when I give her a Reiki treatment. Often I have to stop, because the sensation is just too much for her, like being tickled inside she says. Other times she just lies there, laughing loudly and loving it! There are so many different kinds of sensations to experience with Reiki, this side effect certainly being the most fun! Laughter is a good medicine! Keep up the great newsletter! Aaron: Vic: don't worry. I have been Reiki RMT for four years now. I laughed hysterically during my own level three attunement. Everyone else thought it weird as well. It's just (I feel) an emotional release. Would you have been just as surprised if he had burst into tears? Maggie Batt: To Vic re: laughing during attunements: Maggie Batt: Laughter is a form of release just like tears. When we attune someone we cleanse their energy field layer by layer. (RI-physical, RII-emotional/mental, RIII-spiritual). Laughter was the way that your student released those energy imprints in that layer of their aura. The greatest shamans say that healing should be fun, light and full of laughter. It shouldn't be so serious. LOL! Bill: To Vic: I laughed my way through my Reiki III training and again through the attunement--sometimes with tears in my eyes, mostly with a smile, uncontrollable giggling, and some concern initially that this was not in keeping with the solemnity of the occasion. My Master assured me that this happens every time she does a Master-level attunement. She did not know why, but she’d been at this for 20 years and more, so I decided to go with it. Then again, what choice do you have when you are laughing? The attunement worked fine for me, too, as you said it did for your teenage apprentice. I wish him a speedy recovery surrounded by Love and light. Karyn: To Louise: Everyone has their own experiences during the clearing phase – I would advise you to continue (or begin) doing self-Reiki every day, and see if your avers iongoesaway.Inmyexperience,theclearingphasebringstothesurfaceanythingthatisblockingtheenergyflowsothatyoucanrecognizeitandletitgo.Youareontheway-you'verecognizedan aversion, and that's the first step. Maybe it would also help to realize that any time you have both of your hands on someone/something, the Reiki energy is flowing through you. Once you get used to that thought, I think you will find that it is an enjoyable experience to give Reiki, and you will start to lose your fear. How did YOU find Reiki? Last issue's question came from Libby: I found a reference to Dr. Usui using sound as well as symbols for healing. Is there anyone out there who knows what sounds they're referring to? [Quote from http://Holisticonline.com/reiki : Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered the root system in the mid- to late 1800s. He began an extensive twenty-one-year study of the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual leaders. He also studied ancient sutras (Buddhist teachings written in Sanskrit). He discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are linked directly to the human body and nervous system which activate the universal life energy for healing. Usui then underwent a metaphysical experience and became empowered to use these sounds and symbols to heal. He called this form of healing Reiki and taught it throughout Japan until his death around 1893.] Bill: Three things about using sound with Reiki. (1) The Reiki symbols, when spoken or sung, make a sound. The sound of each symbol resonates with a chakra. Try it for yourself. Some say that the symbols were “originally” meant to be sung or sounded, although the annals of Reiki are anything but clear on this, and many other points. (2) I know a Reiki practitioner who is sometimes moved to sing during treatments. She holds a single note or tone for several minutes. (3) During one of my early Reiki treatments, I opened my eyes and was surprised to find my Master beating a drum in the air just above my body, from head to toe. She made six passes over me. Noting my puzzled expression, she smiled and said: “Sometimes we have to use the drum.” Next issue's question comes from Steve: I am a 26 year old male in who is recovering from an accident which left me with a hormone imbalance. In short I have been left impotent with no testicular movement and very minimal blood circulation to the genital area. I was told that Reiki would help me. Is this true, and what are your suggestions. Send your comments or questions for future issues to teri@reikione.com with "Discussion" in the subject line. Pondering something I wrote a few years ago -
Reader's Corner
Eric, in response to an earlier Discussion: For Ayse - My experience is that is doesn't matter at all what the recipient is doing, the Reiki will flow. It doesn't matter if he/she knows if you are sending Reiki that very moment, it flows. Of course, it feels good if you sit down, relax and feel it, but that is just a good feeling. Nothing more, nothing less. The Reiki energy flows with or without you.

Karyn: To Vic, who wrote about attuning a young man who laughed during the attunement: It was interesting to hear that - I laughed during my Reiki I attunement too. I have a close friend who had an amazing and prophetic vision during her attunement, so I was kind of expecting the same thing. My friend experienced a vision that her daughter was pregnant with a son, which turned out to be true although her daughter had not told her yet that she was pregnant. Instead of a profound vision, I experienced laughter. It felt like a great big joyous release of I don't know what!
yes, we really want to know . . . .
Janine: I am a RMT and decided when I took Reiki I (8 years ago) that I did not want the responsibility of who should have Reiki if they needed it. I did not want to incur any karmic debt by denying Reiki to anyone. I didn't want to have to remember to turn it on and off. I decided to just let it flow freely. I have never shut it off. Several days after my attunement I went into a bookstore and Reiki started pouring out of my hands. Someone in the bookstore apparently needed it. It was a wonderful feeling. While initially it did unbalance me, as I became accustomed to it I was okay. It doesn't always flow with such force, but it always flows. I do notice when there is a change in the intensity of the energy, but unless there is a change, it is as natural and effortless as breathing and blinking your eyes. When I do a Reiki Treatment there is a "surge" when I state my intention as if Reiki were switching gears and the energy takes on a different dimension. When I am doing a treatment on myself the same thing happens. If anything this reinforces that I am only a channel for the energy and the healing does not come from me, but through me. I am merely being of service. It is humbling and at the same time reinforces that we are all part of something else. Thank you for all your work.

Growing your Reiki Practice
Aaron: An excellent way to market Reiki - speak with a local high school about offering your services free of charge for a day to provide stressed out teachers with a half-hour session of peace and quiet. Maybe speak for 5 -10 minutes at a staff meeting about what you'll be doing, what reiki is, etc. If you get the green light, make sure someone organizes a booking sheet and a quiet, pleasant space for you. Go in and do your thing. A friend of mine was asked to return one day a week, every school week (the school offered to pay her $200 a day) and her practice has grown considerably. It seems stressed out people know other stressed out people.
