Thoughts shared from guest columnist, Sheree Rainbolt-Kren

The Law of attraction works in all ways on all levels. If you are BEING love and integrity, that is what you will attract in your life. If you are BEING something else; ditto. What we see in another has already hatched in our own nest. It's not easy to see things this way. Our Ego will immediately refuse this thought. See with eyes of Light and that will be what you experience. No need for any other protection. If you are truly at peace with your loving heart, you know that nothing can harm you.

Reader's Corner

Richelle: I would love some ideas and tips on how to start (and maintain) my Reiki practice. I have put signs and business cards up around town as well as put an ad in the newspaper. So far, I've had no luck though. Does anyone have any ideas to share? Thanks! (ed. note: if you would like to share, send me your ideas to teri@reikione.com).

Geoff: Being a new subscriber (from today) I read with interest the question in regard to protection when giving Reiki. Throughout my training and attunements I was taught to pull in my aura until it would pull in no further. To do this you open your arms outwards (prior to receiving the Reiki energy) then slowly bring in your arms toward your body until you feel a tingling or pressure against your hands. Stop when you feel this as your protection is your own aura which is all around your body like a suit of armour. Hope this helps.

Laine, on last issue’s Editor’s Notes: Teri, I firmly believe that another door along our life’s path will always be open for us, with that in mind, I would like to tell you that I've truly appreciated your news letter and all you put in to it. It seems that when I'm looking for something within, I often find something that fills that gap in your emails.

Geoff: In answer to Prema (06/06/04) this has happened to me on one occasion. I feel that the problem is either that her aura is leaking and therefore she is losing energy or, If she has not put protection on herself prior to giving the healing then there has been a transfer of energies between healer and recipient.

Reiki Experience

Comments

Helen, for Ann: Hello Ann, my children who are 9 and 12 years old have grown up with Reiki. My pregnancies were Reiki-ed, their births were Reiki-ed, and they have been Reiki-ed by me all their lives. My son who is 9 won't go to sleep at night without his Reiki! I find he only needs less than 5 minutes and he is off into la-la land. My daughter asks for it if she can't get to sleep, so I lie on her bed and we talk as we Reiki. It's our special time. Children will tell you when they've had enough, just listen to them. Sometimes, they would come to me, ask for Reiki, sit on my knee to receive, then jump off after a few minutes. I don't worry about certain hand positions, I place my hands wherever they want to go, usually one on the head and one on the body! Hope this helps.

How did YOU find Reiki?

Libby: My "How I came to Reiki story" is that I was in a course and one of my classmates was sharing about doing Reiki and I realized that it would be a great structure for what I already felt... Whenever I gave someone a backrub, I'd always go right to the place that needed attention, and they'd say, "How did you know?!" and I'd say, "I don't know, it just feels more "interesting" there." In some ways, Reiki feels too structured to me, and I've enjoyed some of the articles by Taggart King about people who do Reiki without following the hand positions so strictly. Now that I'm starting to develop my Reiki practice, doing sessions at a nearby health club, I find myself thinking that I have to be strict and structured again, because I would have to be licensed to do "massage" in this county. (I will say that even doing the strictest, most structured treatments with people seems to give them profound relaxation!)

New Experiences

Laurie: I've seen some articles on from people who teach Reiki and who speak of being tired afterwards and say it is caused by attunements or channeling. As a Master/Teacher I have also had the experience of being tired after teaching a class, but I don't feel that it is because of giving attunements or channeling. Often I do attunements and channel outside of a class environment. At these times I don't feel fatigued. In fact, I feel rejuvenated. I believe the fatigue comes as a result of thinking and communicating with my students. Trying to find a way to express something in a way that clicks for them. I've also learned that in each class I, too, am a student. I am always learning something new. Recently I've started a new job that requires me to think and express myself differently than I normally do. I have the same type of fatigue at the end of the day.

Up for Discussion

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue. Have a question you'd like to get input on? Send it in!

Last issue's question came from Lynda: I am wondering if any of you have managed to incorporate Reiki into your psychotherapy practice. How have you done that and what has been the response of your clients and colleagues?

Debi: I have used Reiki quite a bit in my psychotherapy sessions with clients and they love it! Only one passed on it the second time 'round, because she didn't feel grounded enough when driving home. But all in all, it's been very effective. I usually combine it with hypnotic languaging and do hypnotherapy at the same time. Sometimes I use hypnotic languaging to describe what I'm doing over the chakras. Most often I do it at the end of a session when the issues for the day have been revealed and then I do a complete Reiki session, concentrating more energy in the chakra that needs it most, in relation to the presenting issues. It's very soothing - since I believe in sending my clients out the door feeling like they've accomplished something and energized, it's the perfect way for us to end a session. Plus I feel energized to boot!

Next issue's question comes from Libby: I have been studying Tai Chi since January. One of the very basic principles of Tai Chi is that you must always stand on one foot or the other, not both. "Being double-weighted is stagnant, not alert." I know this is a martial art (and having your weight divided means you can move faster) but it is very much a kind of energy work, too. My question is this: I find myself almost always double-weighted when I do Reiki treatments. I don't feel "right" flowing energy from both hands while standing mostly on one leg. Do others find this also, or are you supporting yourself on one leg more than the other, then switching from time to time? (If so, is it with a bent knee, as I've learned to stand from Tai Chi, rather than straight-legged with a locked knee?) What feedback do people have for me?

Growing your Reiki Practice

Libby: I have been noticing that how I grow my practice seems to have more to do with who I'm "Being" about it, than what I'm doing. The whole possibility of this practice in this venue showed up one day after I saw that I had been Being "afraid to let anyone or anything, including Reiki, be more powerful than me!" How absurd! As soon as I saw that I felt a freedom to explore, made a phone call and eventually ended up with a contract! I've had one client who has come three times. Last week, I noticed that I was again "Being" afraid: "No one will come." "Everyone will come!" "They will expect miracles! I can't do miracles!" after I saw that, I was on the phone with a friend who said, "Hey, I want to set up Reiki for my husband and for me, when can we come?" Wow. The key to building a practice seems to be continuing to notice what I'm afraid of, acknowledging it and creating what I'm committed to... Making a difference, with Reiki, in the health and well-being of two to four people each week. (By the way, the insight about who I was Being came from a coaching conversation from a Landmark seminar - I really recommend Landmark Education courses as a source of personal and global transformation. http://landmark-education.com )

Just for Fun

A middle aged woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience. Seeing God, she asked if this was it. God said, "No you have another 43 years, 2 months, and 8 days to live"

Upon recovery the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a facelift, liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, etc. She even had someone come in and change her hair color, figuring since she had so much more time to live, she might as well make the most of it.

She got out of the hospital after the last operation and while crossing the street was killed by an ambulance speeding to the hospital. Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 40 Years?"

God replied, "I didn't recognize you."
