I neither use nor endorse the use of spam nor do I ever share this email list. If you enjoy the ReikiOne Newsletter, feel free to forward it to a friend (in its entirety, please :o). Greetings everyone! It’s nice to be back in the editor’s seat after taking some time off. Life is getting back on track and I think I’m finally slowing down a bit. Thanks much for understanding. Well, there’s a lot to cover in this issue, so I’ll get to it. Have a wonderful week filled with light, love, and laughter. Comments or thoughts? Would you like to be a guest columnist? Email Teri. Reader's Corner Laine, in response to Rhonda’s Experience in the last newsletter: I've been practicing reiki for only four years and have been using it to help keep me healthy. Whether we use Reiki to heal others or ourselves, I believe it is always an unselfish act. Reiki brings spirituality and enlightenment to me and allows me to engage in the energy of life. I believe happiness comes with enlightenment and a change of mind, I believe the energy in you is what brings happiness and self love. Once the happiness is inside us, we only experience happiness around us. Choosing to know abundance is all around you and that everything in life is the way it should be. Change your view and you'll see a new horizon. Teri W: Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy receiving your newsletter, always a source of inspiration! Also ordered your Reiki manual set - electronically. Finished by Reiki Master/Teacher training last week. Has been a long journey, but a most profound experience. Thanks for your dedication to spreading the news about Reiki and helping all those who need help in our community. Laurette, to David from the last newsletter: David, I by no means claim to have the answer you are seeking but my Spiritual studies have brought me thus far in the area of detachment, something that I think we all struggle with from time to time. Detachment does not mean letting go of what we want but knowing that what is provided by Spirit is exactly what we need. In some cases emotional separation is a necessity for the real gift to spring forth. Give up the emotional attachment not the thing you long for. I know this is much easier said than done. Tina-Lorraine: In response to David's posting about "detaching" -- Yes, it is sometimes very difficult to detach, when what we want is so urgent. I guess "detaching" to me really means "waiting" or "patience" and "trust." It's often hard to be patient and to trust that everything will work out for the best. It's even harder to acknowledge that what we want might not be in our best interests. Waiting is very foreign to our western way of "instant gratification", and with the best will in the world, we have been socialised to need ready answers to our problems. All I can say is, wait. Trust. Be open. It's hard, but the more serene we can be, the more wonderful things will unfold. All will be revealed, but not without the work on our part. Bless you, David. Vicki: I always had trouble understanding QUITE what "letting go" meant, the following is a great description: Valerie: This letter is in response to David in the Reader's Corner who is struggling with detachment. I really feel what you are saying as this is one I am struggling with too - walking the fine line between acceptance vs giving up . . . a part of me believes they are the same, that to detach means to stop caring and is a gray and lifeless place. I want to recommend some reading which has helped me a lot, which is the Pathwork lectures. They are all available for download at www.pathwork.org. In particular this one: http://www.pathwork.org/lectures/P013.PDF addresses the topic of detachment (towards the end, in the question and answer section.). Teri thank you for your wonderful newsletter. Kay-C: Hi David, you sound pained by your current situation, I hope I can be of assistance - To love someone "by the law"' (that's universal law) is to love "unconditionally". Love inspires the spiritual character in life to give. Fear drives the physical character in life to possess. FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real. Love is giving without conditions or expectations. Love is selfless. Its concern is for others. Love follows universal laws, meaning If we desire love - we must first give love. We will have love to the degree that we give it! If we put a condition upon the love we give, it is us that will bear the condition. Love for another is to be given freely. Forget about detachment! Love the person unconditionally for who they are, what they are, what they do - look at the little things this person does that attracts you to them and apply that also to yourself. Unconditional love means that you also have to honour their decisions. They may not be at the same place as you in this present time, this does not mean you have to stop loving them, but give them their space, honour their decisions, grow from your experiences. Remember, don't be sad when things come to an end, be Happy that they happened! Marion: Teri, I haven't been able to read the ezine for awhile. Love the new look! Comments? Suggestions? Complaints? They don't have to be about the newsletter, just about Reiki or other healing topics. Be heard! Send them in! I invite you to share your Reiki Experience in the next issue - Tell us, how did YOU find Reiki? New Experiences Ken, an experience of sorts :o]: I dated a nurse who practiced energy healing. Although it was not Reiki, it was energy related. She told me about auras. Until today I never could see them. I was talking with a friend and noticed a purple aura next to her neck. I freaked me out but was curious if that color in that area of the body had a significance. Sudha, on Michele’s Experience: Michele, it is not important how many attunements you have had. If you have gone through the traditional attunements i.e. 4 part attunement process, then one attunement at each level is sufficient. After that it is up to you. The more you practice, the more integrated you get with reiki. I have come across quiet a few reiki teachers who ask you to get attuned again if you have not been regularly practicing or if you do not experience the results you expect. Believe me, it is more important that you believe in reiki as a very effective healing energy. You may not experience the result that you expect. But healing does take place where it is required. Reiki energy goes to the root of the problem. So over a period of time, you do find changes in many areas. Listen to your inner voice and I am sure you will get your answer. Bill, in response to Michele’s Experience in the last newsletter: Michele in the Reiki One Newsletter, dated 06-04-04, was puzzled. So am I. “Michele: I am Reiki 3. I have been practicing Reiki for 7 years this June. At one point another Reiki practitioner told me that it seemed I hadn't had enough attunements. She said there are more attunements than just one with each level of Reiki. I was told I was attuned to Reiki yet, not how many attunements this takes. It is these types of issues that keep me guessing and feeling as if I don't really understand how the attunement process works.” I think everyone agrees that there is one, and only one, Reiki Ray. I think of this as a beam of energy (coming from I don’t where) that permeates and surrounds the Earth and everything on it. I think everyone agrees that this energy, the Chi, is the divine-life-force. Sensei Usui discovered a way of tapping into the Chi and using it for healing—first for himself, and later for others. Newer research indicates that Sensei Usui worked out a method of attuning apprentices. But not every apprentice required attunement. Some seemed to pick it up just by working with Sensei Usui and practicing Reiki. William Rand (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1886785058/qid=1086630188/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-5183989-7529543?v=glance&s=books) and others have written extensively about this in recent years. I admire this work because it has helped to dispel misunderstandings about the origin and nature of Reiki, if even creating new ones unintentionally in the process. Reiki remains necessarily a mystery at this time. It is beyond and outside of the experience of all but a tiny number of people, measured against the 6 billion or more human beings on our planet. I think of the attunement process as what happens, for instance, when people are learning to sing or to play a musical instrument. Some are said to have a gift or natural talent. Others study for years, under many teachers. In the end both may perform equally well--each with a distinctly individual inspiration and style. And the ones with a gift regularly arouse the curiosity, and sometimes the envy, of others, don’t they? Although there is one, and only one, Chi, it can be applied in many ways. I think of the Reiki Ray and the Chi as containing a variety of frequencies of energy. Think about water in a river or a stream. The water is a single substance, but there are many kinds of waves, currents, cross currents, whirlpools, and eddies. The water ebbs here, and flows there. Sometimes it gushes and rushes; at others it is calm or still. The same is true in my experience in working with the Chi. In addition to the now traditional Reiki I, II and III attunements which I received after study and working with a Reiki Master, I decided to study and receive the Karuna attunements (http://www.reiki.org/KarunaReiki/KarunaHomepage.html ), developed by William Rand. Each of the attunements—Usui and otherwise--helped me to discern the various frequencies of energy that make up the Reiki Ray and the Chi. Along the way I received helpful suggestions about how and when to use the energies to heal myself and others. And all the while, my Reiki Master told me I was a natural, that I had been given a gift. Go figure. While my scholarly background led me to make a systematic study of Reiki, read book after book, and ask many, many questions, ironically I work almost completely by intuition. In practice I allow myself to be guided by the simple truth that Chi has an intelligence of its own, different from what is contained in our brains. Chi is impeccable, unfailing, unerring. Another irony. Immediately after my Reiki III attunement, I received two other attunements in the same afternoon spontaneously, unbidden, and without preparation. These did not originate with my Master—any more than the others had, as I realized later in hindsight. My Master grappled with words, playfully and joyfully, while attempting to describe these other unexpected attunements. She said they, too, were gifts. One was “intergalactic” and the other came from “Jeshua and Mary Magdalene.” I had no more questions to ask! Allison, on Rhonda’s Experience: My response to Rhonda: Sounds like you want to have all the benefits of Reiki but without the necessary work needed to reap them. This is a fast paced world we live in, and its a shame people want instant gratification, even in the healing arenas. Reiki doesn't work that way. It requires that you SLOW DOWN and be in your body and mind with tremendous attention. And it’s not selfish to want to treat yourself to all the benefits this powerful energy has to offer. Its common sense! More folks out there should be pampering themselves in this way. When you say you have not been able to meditate, like anything, you must practice. Think of Reiki as a moving meditation. Sit down, begin with first position and just be mindful. You don't have to do any work. The energy is working through you. Let it be. The more you use Reiki, the more powerful a tool it will become in your life. Changes may be subtle at first, then more profound as your experience with Reiki deepens. I cannot urge you enough to simply FIND THE TIME and make Reiki part of your routine. How do you start a routine? Just....start! Taza, for Rhonda: Here's a suggestion: start Reiki-ing your heart chakra, as long as you want, every morning and every evening (after you get out of bed and before you get in bed, so you'll stay more alert and focused...) Imagine your heart opening to receive this gift. Imagine knowing that you will be directed as to its further use in your life, simply by allowing your heart to receive, and by filling your heart with that sacred energy and intention. Follow your heart Rhonda. Send in your Reiki Haiku or Poetry today! For Haiku, the formula is simple - 5 syllables in line 1, 7 syllables in line 2, and 5 syllables in line 3. That's it, 3 little lines, 5-7-5. teri@reikione.com. Last issue's question came from Prema: I experienced extra ordinary tiredness on three occasions. once when I was attuning a group of four students, one by one. I could not get up for the next day. Next twice I experienced this tiredness when I was healing two persons on different occasions. Can any one think of any reason for this tiredness. There were no responses to Prema’s question. Please feel free to still send in a reply if you’d like. Next issue's question comes from Asha: I have heard about putting a protective light around one's self. This is helpful not to give away one's own energy. Please advice me on how does one create this light around one's self. (ed. note: or share ways you ground and protect yourself prior to doing any energy work). And, along a similar theme, comes this question from Mary: In my Reiki I class, we were given a protection symbol. I haven't seen this symbol anywhere, and other Reikis I've met usually haven't heard of one. Has anyone here had a protection symbol? To "let go" is not to adjust everything to my desires, but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it.
To "let go" does not mean to stop caring, It means I cant do it FOR someone else.
To "let go" is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being.
To "let go" is not to cut myself off.. it's the realization I can't control another.
To "let go" is not to enable, but to allow learning from natural consequences.
To "let go" is to admit powerlessness, which means the outcome is not in my hands.
To "let go" is not to try to change or blame another, it's to make the most of myself.
To "let go" is not to care for, but to care about.
To "let go" is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes, but to allow others to affect their destinies.
To "let go" is not to be protective, it's to permit another to face reality
To "let go" is not to criticise and regulate anybody but to try to become what I dream I can be.
To "let go" is not to deny, but to accept.
To "let go" is not to regret the past, but to grow, and live in today cherishing each moment.
To "let go" is to fear less and love more.

Reiki Experience
Ann: I have two sons: 4 years and 2 1/2 years, and I primarily wanted to learn Reiki for them, so I could help them when they were sick. Right after my Reiki I, I went home and of course Reiki'd both the boys. One got sick the next day (vomiting) and was better in 24 hours, the other got sick after that (vomiting) and was better in a day as well. I rather thought there was something hanging around and the Reiki just cleared them out. But how often should children be given Reiki in general? I know Reiki can do no harm, but is there such a thing as doing it too often on such little bodies? Right now I do them whenever they're not feeling well, or if they ask for it, and occasionally just because it's been a while since they had it. I only stay in one position for 5-7 seconds. Any more than that and they start to stir or pull away, whether I do it when they're sleeping or when they're awake.
