Notes from the Editor

Teri Moore RMT RYT

Namaste and welcome to this issue of the ReikiOne Newsletter! If this isn't your first
newsletter, I'm sure you've noticed I've made some changes to the format. Because the
newsletter can get unruly at times (as in lots o'content) I thought using the blocks of color would
help make it more readable. I know sometimes after I send it and try to read it, for myself it can
be difficult and things start to run together. Now, this might be old age creeping up on me, or it
could be just due to the length. I decided to go with length :o] and try this new format. Please
let me know what you think, even if you don't like it at all.
Any and all input is always most welcome here.

I've been busy updating the website as well. I know the newsletter is the only contact many of
you have to ReikiOne. If this is you, I invite you to visit the website for more offerings - an
active Message Center, Practitioner/Teacher Directory, Publications, Reiki Jewelry, eCards,
and many other fun and interesting things. The front page has been recently updated to
(hopefully) make your navigating experience there much easier.

More changes have been made at ReikiOne Press in the form of price reductions on almost
every book published here, including the Limited Edition Artist version of The Reiki Teacher's
Handbook. Additional sale items can be found at the Healing Jewelry page, along with new
products I created *just* this week - very cool silver and 'enamel' Reiki Kanji Pendants.

I hope you'll stop by for a visit and, if you do, send me some feedback as to what you like or
don't like about the site. As I said previously, I'm always open to your opinions and value
hearing from you. If there's information you'd like to see included here at ReikiOne, let me
know that as well.

Wishing you much Light, Love, and Laughter this coming week!

Reader's Corner

Karyn: please thank everyone for the feedback about Reiki/babies! It was
so interesting reading everyone's responses. My pregnant friend, and my
friend whose baby I Reiki'd, enjoyed reading them too. It was very
interesting how other people described the babies who had been Reiki'd as
being mellow and happy, just like my friend's baby. I wish I could find
thousands of pregnant women to Reiki. It is so pleasant for everyone. I
feel very tingly in the hands when I'm touching their bellies, like I can
feel the energy of the baby growing inside the mom. So beautiful!

Tina-Lorraine, on last issue's 'Notes from the Editor': Re: Reiki and Alanon: I came from a
creative, dysfunctional family who had problems with substance abuse, and at an early age
learned to be the "caregiver" to someone much older than myself. As I grew up and the years
passed, I was way too inclined to believe anyone who said they had a philosophy, religion or
value system that was "the one and only" and to not really trust my own voice. Came the
'70s, I was married to a stable and wonderful man, the mother of children, and at this point I
began to reclaim my own true self. I've had some stumbling-blocks and problems over the
years since, but the high point for me was finding Reiki, and discovering that everything I felt
intuitively within myself now had validity -- that I wasn't "wrong" or "misguided" or "kooky." This
has brought me great peace and joy, to the point where even my (now) grown-up children say,
at times of stress, "Hey, send me some vibes, Mom!" I've never been to Alanon, but I'm sure it
helps greatly. My point is, PLEASE listen to your own inner voice. It's there, it's for a purpose,
and it will never let you down or tell you anything but the truth, as meant for you. Namaste!

Sharon, on display of symbols: I am a RMT, although I am not teaching at this time. My
observation has been that there are many different beliefs and practices concerning Reiki. I
have researched this on my own, and found that Reiki in itself does not seem to be connected
to any rules, but that people have made rules about the use of Reiki. Some people feel you
always must use symbols, others just visualize them, others do not use them at all. Reiki still
flows freely regardless of the way one accesses it once you are attuned. Some people charge
for Reiki, some exchange gifts, some give freely without charge. It's a personal choice. I don't
believe the energy is attached to any of these things. My belief is that this is the human side of
practicing Reiki, and we are all human and subject to our feelings. We have to answer to our
inner voice in order to have peace. As is often the case in religion, politics and relationships,
we all must learn to respect each other's differences and refrain from making judgments on
one another. We each find our own path. I would humbly encourage you to follow your own
heart when you share your energy, knowledge and light with others. As for myself, I ask for
healing to go to the person that has sent negative energy my way, and then I ask it for myself. I
honor your choice to share the symbols with those that are learning Reiki. And, I thank you for
your commitment to provide support and information to all of us that receive your newsletter.

Michele: Your last newsletter was particularly interesting.

Judy: Thank you so much for your newsletter. I love reading it, it is always so informative. I
especially liked this issue with all the discussion about Reiki and pregnancy.

Michael: In Response to Cheri's comments (last newsletter): "I have studied with numerous
Reiki teachers, several Shamans and more than a few Christian healers. The energy
is the same." Radio waves are radio waves. However, within radio waves there
are many frequencies, and within the spectrum of healing energy there are
also many different frequencies. I practice Reiki I, II & III daily, and
utilize intent rather than symbols. However, Karuna Reiki can heal things
Reiki I, II, & III cannot. The same is true for Lightarian Reiki. Cheri also
notes that "The healing energy is from the creation and anyone who needs and
wants has access to it." Many, but not all, healing energies are protected
and those who have not been initiated to them can neither receive nor pass
the attunements. As more research has been done on the origins of Reiki,
many feel that, in keeping with social mores of the time, Mrs. Takata did
not receive the full array of Dr. Usui's attunements. Some believe that
Karuna Reiki is "the missing pieces" of Usui Reiki. Cheri also says; "We
must look with our heart with all things and follow the creator's whisper
instead of worrying about what the other children are saying." Thank you
Cheri -- what a beautifully poetic contribution.

Ravenia, on earlier Discussion topics: Displaying symbols, Reiki and Christianity; where does
it all fit? Here's my take. I practiced energy healing before I even knew what it was. When
Reiki was explained to me, my response was: Why do I need that, I already do it. However, as
guidance often nudges us into that which is our path in spite of resistance, I helped a friend
who was teaching a Reiki I class. In doing so, I received the attunements and symbols. The
difference I perceived was a structure that made healing more efficient. I'm now an RMT, and
have synthesized it with Celtic practices which I learned within a family structure. Having grown
up with these practices, I did not realize not everyone lived this way or what a wonderful gift
and privilege it was. Being born and raised in a Christian culture, but with highly evolved
teachers, I learned as a teen that different religious paths have roots in similar ideals. After
reading Hegel, it dawned on me that not only consciousness, but spirituality too, advances
much the same way as Darwin's evolutionary theory purports physical being does. There are
many side trips which advance, but eventually die off, or recede back to the center trunk, and
with changes advances, with greater understanding, to a higher level. Much of Christian theory
which was kept a mystery, withheld from the masses for empowerment of those in the know,
has now come into light and lo and behold, much of it is ancient wisdom known to our earliest
ancestors. Keep the Reiki symbols secret? Why? Sharing does not diminish the power, it
adds to and expands it. Knowledge benefits all just as understanding the roots of our
spirituality of Being does. Those who understand will grow with their understanding, those who
do not, won't. Keeping the symbols proprietary just creates elitism and misunderstanding.

Reiki or other healing topics. Be heard! Send them

Reiki Experience

Barbara: I am a Reiki Master and I have recently started using EFT (Emotional Freedom
Technique) on myself. I would like to know if anyone has combined the use
of EFT and Reiki on their clients. It has had real benefits for me but I'm
not certified in it so I'm not sure about using the combination with others.

Ashok: I am located in Bangalore, India. I learnt Reiki 1 & 2 (both on the same day). After my
attunement, I also went through a 21 day self healing wherein my master asked me to keep my
hands on all chakras for 3 minutes. Now, even after all these, I am skeptical that my Reiki
works fine. For example, I have been using Sei-hei-ki & Mathi for nearly 30 days (not
consecutively). I still find no improvement. Also the Sati symbol used for re-union is in vain.
Please advise on how to use my Reiki more effectively. Should I receive attunement again?
Please clarify my doubts.

Up for Discussion

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response.
Comments received will be published in the next issue. Have a question you'd like to get input
on? Send it in!

Last week's question came from David: Most masters teach that at the end reiki session with
someone else, that the receiver should be "closed up" energetically. However, no one (of the
6 masters I have studied with) ever said anything about closing ones self, after self treatment.
Should self treatment end with energetic closure? If so, what technique may be used?

Morgan: The Master that I studied with spoke about disconnecting with the energy
after providing a session. We were taught to simply wash our hands after we
finished with a treatment. She stated that it brought the energy back to a
neutral place. I must say that I have incorporated this process in my
practice and have found it to be very satisfying.

Mary: In my Reiki I class (I am now Reiki II) my teacher taught us what she
called the grounding symbol that we could use for grounding ourselves or
others. Just as ChoKuRei turns on the Reiki, turning it the other
direction turns it off and helps to ground. I haven't seen this in any
manuals, though I haven't read many. I use it almost every time I use Reiki.

Anita: A shaman once told me that, because of the level work that I do, I should consciously
regenerate on a cellular level, head to toe, or I would shorten my lifespan. Even though we are
channels for Reiki energy from a Higher Source beyond ourselves, we are still expending
mental, physical, emotional and spiritual energy. When self-treating, we should take the same
care with our energy bodies as we do with others. I create sacred space, ordain that only
benevolent energies are allowed in, and invite the guidance and aid of benevolent helpers. I
express to them my concerns and ask that the healing that is allowed be complete on every
level of be-ing, past, present and future. As a psychic surgeon, I have learned to pack
"wounds" (areas where problem energy is removed) with white light to protect this vulnerable
area until healing is complete. Closure is done with a reverse (clockwise) Cho Ku Rei.

Jan: I believe you should close yourself down as whether you channel energy into another
person, or yourself you are still open and could attract negative energies. Once attuned to
Reiki your energy aura is very strong. My master said you are like a beacon which will attract
energies which are not always of the light. I always close my chakras down then put myself in a
royal blue cloak with a hood on and imagine I have switched off my light, then draw the power
symbol over me. In addition you could put yourself in a bubble of protective energy stating it is
for protection again negative energies whilst still allowing healing energies to flow.

Next issue's question comes from Adrienne: I am new to reiki, I only received my first
attunement about nine months ago, so every reiki experience brings forth something new. My
question is, when I am conducting a session and I feel a particular energy being expended
from whatever area I am working on, is that to be taken as an area that needs to be worked on
or an area that is in a good place? Is the energy I am feeling negative or positive? What
about the energy that the "recipient" feels during a session? Does the energy represent an
area that is in dis-ease or at ease? Any explanation that you could give would be gratefully
appreciated.

Music/Book Review

From Scott: I have been a Reiki Master since 1996 and just published my first book last year.
The book's title is, "It's Time To Wake Up: Reiki & Other Essential Tools For Spiritual
Awakening" and is the first of many books we will be publishing . Our website is a support
structure for the book as well as other spiritual and metaphysical ideas we like to share with
those who are Awakening. href="http://www.itstimetowakeup.com">http://www.itstimetowakeup.com

From reikiruben: just wanted to inform you that the book "reiki for life" by the author penelope
quest is a got to have book, answers all the questions about reiki and comes with a lot of good
advice and tips. in music: aeoliah with the cd's reiki for healing vol. 1 to 4 is excellent to listen
to when doing reiki. ajad is also excellent, and they even got a bell in about every third minute,
to inform you that you can change hand position, very useful.

Anita: New Love-Awaken to Yourself by Amy Camie is a beautiful collection of solo harp
music arranged from Narada piano artists like David Lanz. Amy's music is used in cancer
research and has been proven to reduce stress, which impairs the immune system. Positive
brain wave changes occurred within four minutes in the pilot study. Amy's CD is available
through her website www.healingharp.org.

Read a good book or heard some good music, healing-wise? Write a review and I'll include it
in the newsletter (and yes, you CAN review your own book). Email your review to href="mailto:teri@reikione.com">teri@reikione.com.
