~~Notes~~ Teri Moore, editor & RMT

As I was typing the date info in the newsletter header this evening, I realized we're moving into our fourth year of publication with this issue! Thank you for being here, for helping me make this ezine possible. I get emails from Reikis in remote locations who have no contact with others except through this newsletter. There are Reikis out there who aren't able to discuss freely their energy practice, but come here to share their thoughts. And it's all of you who make this connection possible. Namaste. I recognize the divine in you and am grateful to have you as part of the ReikiOne community.

And because this is your newsletter, I'd like to ask if there's anything different you'd like to see? Changes? Specific topics for discussion? New columns I should add? Should we have more than one question per issue? I welcome, and look forward to, your thoughts and ideas.

On the subject of change, I've been making several changes back at the ReikiOne.com website. Recent additions include:

Reiki Desktops - free graphics for your computer desktop, all colorful and original works of digital 'art.' Find these at http://www.reikione.com/desktop.htm.

One-of-a-kind Healing & Goddess Jewelry - I've decided to share my stash of original and one of a kind creations :o] Fun Goddess stuff and healing gemstones. http://www.reikione.com/unique.htm

'Using Crystal Grids with Reiki' is my latest book, just uploaded to the site last weekend. Like all my publications, you can get this in electronic download or print format, full color, laminated covers, wire spiral bound. http://www.reikione.com/pubs.htm .

About three weeks ago, I accidentally dumped the Reiki portion of the ReikiShop at cafepress.com, so decided it was time to redo some stuff. I fired up Paint Shop Pro and created over thirty new designs and uploaded them on such things as shirts, totes, hats, mousepads, even bumper stickers (so now you can match your car). :o] http://www.cafepress.com/reikionep

Yes, I've been busy :o] But having a lot of fun . . .

I wish you a fun week filled with laughter and love.

~~Reader's Corner~~

Nick, on last issue's Reflection & an earlier Discussion: Wow, do I ever even get surprised anymore! I just rekindled an old curiosity, crystals. My wife got me a great book over Christmas and I am totally hooked. I cleaned my crystals and ready to become more acquainted. And what other more messages do I need than your newsletter that comes along and talks about Crystals??? Wow. Anyway, if we can ever talk a little more about it. I am not one to want to mix things. I feel everything is already all within. Reiki is great and so are crystals but when a message comes in that clear, I like to heed it. Another quick word on using the distant symbol. I was taught the distant symbol should not be seen for "sending" reiki. It is there to remind us at the deepest levels how we are all interconnected. So I don't think of it as the generator to sending energy but as the focus to remind me how we are intertwined without losing our individuality. How beautiful :)

Amelia: I wanted to make a reply to Sandy about connecting to Reiki energy before one has been attuned. Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy and I believe it is around us all the time which we intuitively respond to in so many ways on a daily basis regardless of an awareness or attunement to Reiki. This we might call our "gut reaction" or "I just had this funny feeling....". Also, there are various forms of healing techniques which don't use an attunement process and has many healing results/benefits. An attunement to Reiki is specifically connecting us to Usui's healing channel, it is Universal in that it is a healing energy open and available to everyone via an attunement process. There are some who through a Reiki attunement become psychic while there are many naturally attuned/connected clairvoyants around the world too. I do believe that through self awareness and commitment one can connect with their own healing, intuitive and spiritual energy. I'm quite new to the idea of past lives but I am inclined to believe it does have a big part to play in our present one. I hope that makes some sense! I will enjoy others' views and feedback.

Francine in response to Sandy in last issues Reader's Corner: I believe that as an energy source, Reiki is in everyone, just as life force is in everyone. But that doesn't mean everyone will use Reiki in this life. I have actually met people in my life and I could see the Reiki heart inside of them. Sure enough, those people went on to learn Reiki and become practitioners. Yes, many of us have practiced Reiki in a past life and others will practice in a future life. everyone is able to heal with their hands, eyes, etc. This energy could be Qigong (which I learned to use before I learned Reiki), which sounds more like you zapping your son. Reiki just doesn't come across as 'zapping'. It is very subtle. QiGong, and others forms of energy on the other hand are more outwardly noticeable. I have worked with many forms of energy and each energy has its own 'signature' and color. I can close my eyes and pick out the subtle differences and colors of many forms of energy. It is a very interesting study.

Star: Firstly, I must take this opportunity to express my gratitude for your ezine. Sometimes I am time crunched and do not read all the articles. So I save and get to it when I can. Your pet Reiki article was wonderful. Pet Reiki was mentioned by my teacher, who did not go in depth about it. However, her sweet dog Willa was perfectly willing to be my practice subject. So Willa was also my teacher. All of the pets I have worked with, including my beta, accept what they want, then go away. We always have a intuitive connection afterwards.

Cheri: Concerning the idea of Reiki being an energy that you "get" with an attunement. The energy is part of each of us and is utilized in many ways. There have always been energy healers in the world. The only advantage of attunement is learning how to become more aware of it and how to direct it. Reiki is only one of many schools of directing this universally available energy. It isn't a deep mystery in the long run or maybe it really is one of the deepest of all. It is there whether or not you can feel it or direct it. I just feel blessed that I came to a point in my life that I am aware and learning to utilize it.

Liz: I really enjoy your newsletter -- it is great to be connected to all these people with such great insights and experience! I was very interested to read about different people's sessions with animals, although it was mostly dogs. I wonder if there is anyone else out there working on dairy cattle like me? Reiki came into my life through cows -- my husband and I milk about 40 cows on our certified organic farm. It seemed such a logical step from homeopathy to reiki, and it feels like I have helped a few sick cows. One thing that I noticed is that cows don't "draw" the energy like some people; but since my reiki experience on humans is really quite limited, maybe that isn't always true. Cows seem to take what they need quickly, like children do, and will move or shift away to let you know they are "done." My reiki master suggested that I just be wary of using it on pregnant cows, that the calves can get an uncomfortable overload. I sure would like to hear from other folks using reiki regularly down on the farm.

Hope: I just want you to know how much I appreciate and enjoy your e-mail newsletters. I pass them along occasionally when appropriate. Thank you so much!

~~Reiki Experience~~

From Trev: I'd just like to pass on a Reiki experience which I had recently. I am a masseur as well as a Reiki healer and I was doing a back massage swap on a masseuse who I know. She was a little bit low and hungover as she had split from her boyfriend the day before. After the massage (which includes some Reiki), I decided to do some pure Reiki for emotional balancing. I had not done pure Reiki on her before, although she knew I was a Reiki Master. I didn't tell her I was doing it and about 30 seconds into the healing she grabbed hold of the side of the couch and said she was lifting off of the couch. I explained to her that this was an occasional side effect of Reiki and she settled down and had a fantastic experience. To me this just reinforced my belief in the power of Reiki as she had no pre-conceived idea as to what was going to happen.

David: I had an interesting experience I wanted to share. It involves advertising and Reiki. I have found that a certain "coupon company" sends monthly advertising coupons for various things: pizza, restaurants, plumbers, dentists, etc. I called them and tried advertising to 15,000 people in my area of Maryland for 3 months (at a cost of about $700) per month. I received about eight clients for this cost. Low cost per piece, but low response from the mailing. The most successful method I have found is having a happy client or student refer a client or student to you. I encourage this with a $25 discount on classes or sessions. It really works well!

~~Up for Discussion~~

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue. Have a question you'd like to get input on? Send it to me at teri@reikione.com.

Last week's question came from Barbara: Do you think Reiki should be taught to children and what age is a suitable age to begin teaching them?

Gina: The day I received my master attunement I came home and attuned all my children, at that time they were 7, 4, and twin 1 year olds (now 9,5,2). They all noticed something with the attunement. Even my 1 year old twins sat quietly and kept coming back to sit in front of me again and again. I believe that reiki is a powerful tool to give to young children if presented in age appropriate ways. I've found that my now 9 year old frequently uses reiki. His use has grown over the past 2 years to the point that he knows all the symbols and uses them. He tells me that he "beams" reiki to kids at school who are having a rough time. He has also told me that he uses it when he sees other kids being bullied. Frequently, I see him using reiki at home. The thing I appreciate most is that it gives him something to do for the greater good of all wherever he is.... if he doesn't feel strong enough to step in and stop the bullying, he can reiki the situation and still know that he's doing something to help. It was important to present reiki in an age appropriate way and for me to have a long discussion with him about reiki and what he should or shouldn't say to his friends about it. We finally decided that reiki is something he does at school but doesn't talk about it except at home. He loves to attend reiki classes with me and is an awesome helper as he does demonstrations for the students. I've been amazed at the things he has learned in his own practice of reiki. I frequently learn from him. My 5 year old is starting to use reiki more and more. He watches his brother and is starting to copy him. Frequently he treats his food all on his own without prompting from us - he almost always does this with fast food. I want reiki to be a normal part of life for my children. They see me use it, hear me talk about it, experience me using it with them. We talk about it much like other families speak of prayer. I look forward to see how they will continue to benefit from having this energy be a normal part of their lives from such an early age. Yes! Teach reiki to children of all ages. They will grow into their own understanding of this energy and you will learn from their experience.

Cynthia: Yes, yes! I taught my first Reiki workshop for children in August 2003, with the assistance of three other Reiki Master and it was fantastic! We had ten children ages 6-12yrs old, male and female. They were great, absolute naturals. We taught first degree only, teaching on the history of Reiki, the Cho-Ku-Rei symbol, spirit guides and angels, meditation and yoga. We divided the children into small groups of three or four by ages and had a Reiki camp from 10am til 2pm. We drew the Cho-ku-Rei on a king-sized sheet and had them "walk" the symbol. We provided them with a plant and taught them the importance of honoring all life and encouraged them to send healing energy to plants and trees and their pets, too. All of the children were able to easily understand the teachings and of course, taught us adults so very much! We made it fun and interactive, asking them to draw pictures of their angels and guides after meditation. They had amazing stories to share, of deceased relatives, beings of light and brilliant colors. We ended the "camp" by inviting the parents to join us for the attunement ceremony which was so sweet and powerful, many adults were wiping their eyes. The kids then practiced Reiki with each other, doing their hand placements perfectly! They opened their hearts and minds wide to the concept of loving one another, serving one another and I know it empowered them to know they are compassionate beings with God-given abilities to make a difference in this world. We ended with the certificates being awarded, then closed with an angel wash ceremony which included everyone in the family. It was the most rewarding and amazing class I have ever had the privilege of teaching. We made extensive notebooks for the children to take home and refer to as well as journal their Reiki experiences. We also asked the parents to support their Reiki practitioners at home once the camp was over. It was a huge success and we plan to teach more next year. I have several older children, reiki teens, begging for their turn! So, to quote my favorite songwriter, Jim Aycock(also my husband!), "And the children will lead us, to Peace born of the dove....and each new creation will bear the name of Love."

Jan: I think it is fine to teach reiki to children but only reiki one till they are older. I have already given a reju attunement to my son when he was about 8 years old. I think it really depends on the maturity of the child and whether they want to be attuned. My son is 10 years old now and I think he is in a better position to decide whether or not to be attuned to reiki one which he is currently considering. However, Reiki energy will work and flow even if they don't fully understand at their age. Children are very open usually until they are about seven years old and sometimes longer such as my son. I have always accepted that he has been aware of spirit from any early age and not knocked it out of him, which is common for us adults to do, such as don't be silly you are imagining it. Often their imaginary friends are spirits, often relatives watching over them. I lost a daughter (April) 5 years ago and both of us know she is around and often will be with my son while playing and me during healing.

Dawn: I began attuning my (now 7yo) son to first degree when he was 2yo, with his permission. At the suggestion of my RM/T, I only did one of the four attunements at that time; the other three were offered every few months in varying circumstances (alone & with other students, privately and with "an audience", indoors and out, from myself & other RM's) and either accepted or declined according to his moods, until he completed his first degree at the age of 4. My daughter, who is now 3, received her first attunement in utero via her father, and her second as a healing attunement during some health crisis in her first year. (The illness thankfully subsided so quickly that neither my husband nor I can recall what it was.) Both children have confidence in themselves as healers, and the Reiki that they send feels, to me, more intense and yet softer than I've received from others. They both also say that they send distance Reiki, although they haven't received the symbols, attunements or training; of course that could be in imitation of us. I realize there are probably some people who might disagree with attuning children. However, as their mother it is my job to make decisions for them, according to my best judgment at the time, until their judgment is sufficiently developed. We did this together: with my judgment, I offered the attunements (yes offered, even in utero) and with their judgment they both accepted and declined, with the assistance of their guides. As with many child-rearing decisions, different people make different choices, and only time will sort the good choices from the bad. Reiki has been and is still instrumental in my personal development; one of my hopes is that it will get my children off to a great start.

Next issue's question comes from Earl: Can Reiki healing be sent to someone 17 or 18 years in the past? If it can does the exact date and time need to be known?

~~Music/Book Review~~

Blanca Greenberg would like to share the following information on her new book, "The Path That Leads The Way:" I strive to invite my clients to realize that even a sacred practice such as reiki healings can become a short fix for many. Why, because much like a clogged sink--where many would choose to use Drano or a plunger to take care of the problem, reiki can alleviate discord but ultimately, it is by getting to the root cause of why the "clog" developed in the first place, that real transformation begin. "The Path That Leads The Way" invites humanity to unveil their the divine radiance as creative beings by teaching them how to pave a bridge that connects them to the spirit within. The book covers topics that include emotional cleansing, pardon letters, loving detachment and radical forgiveness. In addition it contains an entire chapter on the sacred art of meditation and presents readers with a 14-day regimen that will assist them through their spiritual journey.

I live in bliss because in the two years of practice I have been a humble witness to the physical and spiritual healing of many individuals. I do not take credit for this book; I humbly believe it was inspired by the Omega and would like all those who can benefit from reading it to have it available.

Currently the book is in prerelease status by the publisher. It is available through the publishers and also at the Spiritual Path website (www.spiritualpath.org)
Any one who purchases it at the SP website will get an autographed copy. The price for the book on the SP website is $23.00 plus $2.00 for shipping charges in the USA. The publisher's website is American Book Publishing (http://http://www.pdbookstore.com/comfiles/pages/category2.shtml) They sell the book for $23.75 plus shipping and handling.

Read a good book or heard some good music, healing-wise? Write a review and I'll include it in the newsletter. Email your review to teri@reikione.com.

~~Just for Fun~~~

A woman went to her Health Maintenance Organization. After about 15 minutes with one of the new doctors, she went screaming down the hall. Another doctor stopped and asked her what the problem was and she explained.

The second doctor went back to the first and said, "What's the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old. She has four grown children and seven grandchildren and you told her she was pregnant?"

The new doctor simply smiled and said, "Cured her hiccups though, didn't it?"
