~~Reflection~~ Teri Moore, editor & RMT

For those of you who haven't been with the newsletter long, I started it back in December 2000. Then, we had about 30 subscribers. Just today, we surpassed 2500! I can't begin to tell you how exciting that is . . . . to know there's that many of us sharing our thoughts and opinions through this forum on the subject of Reiki and energy healing. I didn't know how long the newsletter would last, or if anyone would even be interested in receiving it, but I knew how much I'd like to participate with Reikis all over the world and hoped there were others out there just as int erested. And over the years, you've all appeared. Thanks so much for making this forum possible.

If you haven't been to the ReikiOne.com website lately, stop by for a visit - I've updated the site (http://www.reikione.com) with new artwork, then took that artwork and put it on a whole bunch o'stuff at the cafePress store at http://www.cafeshops.com/reikionep. I've also created some other new graphics, both Reiki and Wiccan, and put them all in a section titled 'New Designs - 2003.' In case you're wondering, I order this stuff myself to check quality, etc. and I can tell you it's been great. Plus they let you return anything you're not happy with.

Also, I've put together the ReikiOne Reiki Manuals into a set, priced with a 20% discount if you purchase all 5 manuals. I've received several requests for this, so those of you who asked, you got it! Just visit http://www.reikione.com/pubs.htm and scroll down near the bottom o f the page.

And, lastly, thanks to all of you who sent your happy thoughts and kind wishes for the safe delivery of our grandbaby. He still hasn't arrived (due date was Friday) but the doc keeps saying any day now :o]

~~Reader's Corner~~

Masenn, on an earlier Experience from Marion: I agree with you about some instructors and their techniques. I ran into one that offered a Reiki Masters level attunement without any study whatsoever as well as opening up the Kundalini force. Now my clear understanding is that opening up Kundalini too quickly can be a VERY dangerous thing. I can't even begin to understand why someone would offer something like this without proper preparation which is needed before such an undertaking! Makes me boil when I think about people like this, who really are out to scam people who may be interested in Reiki and not gaining a thing in the end, and not to even mention the possible damage that can occur. All for a buck! Now on to your next question. I always ground myself first before a treatment with ' Reiji Ho ', which means ( I'm sorry if you already know this ) ' indication of the spirit'. It involves emptying ones head, keeping your intellect out of the way, and just merging with the energy. You can also use this method to scan the body if you want to before a treatment is performed. This is how I do it. (1) I stand before the head of the table while my client herself/himself/ gets settled. (2) I fold my hands in front of my chest/heart ( this gesture is known as Gassho ), (3) I close my eyes and connect to the Reiki source. I also imagine my feet becoming one with the earth - solidly planted. (4) I then ask for the health and well-being of my cl ient. (5) I then move my hands up so that they are in front of my third eye and I ask the Reiki energy to guide my hands to where the energy is most needed, at this time I also envision a golden light radiating outwards. You can then blank your mind and hover your hands over the clients body and see if you can pick up something ( this takes time and practice though.) At first it feels a little silly grounding yourself this way, but in no time it gets to be very comfortable and truly part of the treatment. I do agree though, if all good and healing intention without ego is present, you can't fail in your treatments. I hope this was helpful towards your question.

Taza: To Linda: thanks for the immunics.org website. It's fascinating and I'm starting to use it more and more in my life and personal healing. Blessings to you for sharing!

Libby: I really appreciate people sharing Reiki stories. I had a thought in reply to Ayse, who asked if a distance Reiki receiver should be sitting down. I send the Reiki to the person at a distance through their Higher Self and ask that the energy be used for the person's highest good. That way, I figure, it will not cause any problems. (Then sometimes I wonder if I'm just being superstitious to think of things that way at all.). In reply to Marion, I think that Reiki only helps us as much as we are willing for it to help. I see my own resistance to losing weight or sticking with an exercise plan, and wonder what I'm up to. "The Wounded Healer" idea is an interesting place to look at ourselves, I'm sure I became a therapist years ago because I wanted to be heard and accepted myself. (I've heard an idea that goes something like 'those who are most afraid become policemen.') I don't have any experiences to offer about grounding... though I wonder if hematite jewelry
would be of help.

Varian: I have been practicing Reiki for about seven years. I have had only one master, and she taught me from what she called the Usui lineage. I am grateful for the wisdom that she imparted and for the attunements that have brought me to Reiki II. However I recently read over your newsletter where you passed along the wisdom from Taggart king - Simplicity and Sandwiches, and I was awakened once again. Sadly as of the past six months I have not really been practicing Reiki that much - and I am beginning to see that it is time for me to return to the balance that Reiki brings. I just wanted to pass on my thanks for sending this wonderful bit of wisdom my way...it was well received and very much needed. Please continue to do great work and may you find simplicity in the energy that moves you and those you heal.

Ruth: BOOK SIGNING Author Ruth Foreman will be signing her recently published book One Woman's Journey-Recovering from Grief for her readers Tuesday, October 28th from 7-8:30 p.m. The event will be held at Barnes & Noble, 780E. Merritt Island Causeway on Merritt Island, Florida. Learn how her book is helping others going through grief.

Janell, on last issue's Reflection: You must've been reading my mind. All of the great information at the beginning of this weeks newsletter, affirmed my internal beliefs about attunements. Intent intent intent!

Shelly, on last issue's Reflection: Having a "dance" or "movement form" makes sense to me. For me, Reiki is about being in the body. Recently, I was given to understand that the attunements focussing on the head/crown cause a lack of energy balance. This evokes the Divine Masculine principle. In order to create balance using this method, some attunements should focus on the behind/ root chakra. This would create an opening for the Divine Feminine principle. Since each person has a different set of skills relating to clairaudience, clairvoyance, clairsentience etc, perhaps it would be pertinent for the Master to attune each student according to his specific skills - at least for 1st degree ? I am interested to learn if Mr King currently attunes students and what method he personally prefers ?

Teri: I absolutely loved Taggart's writing on simplicity. Sometimes we find ourselves getting caught up in the frills of technique and forget that we have everything that we need inside ourselves (intuition). I think this is because we are unsure of our abilities. Taggart gives us permission to remember what we are and to use it easily without fear of being less than. I have always worked this way but in the back of my mind wondered if I was on the right track, maybe not giving the recipeint the best. It is good to get this validation.

Stephanie: reply to guest article: It's always SO refreshing to find someone else who actually "gets it" with regard to reiki. All of the things that "practitioners" have been force-fed (or have CHOSEN to swallow given their mindset) - the dogmas of the symbols, attunement rituals and hand positions - are FINALLY being challenged and questioned by more and more people. LIBERATE REIKI!!

Kirsten, on Reflection: Wow! I appreciate what is being said - intuition is the way to go with energy work.

Carolyn, on Taggart's Guest Reflection: I have been receiving your newsletter since my first attunement in November of 2000. I always enjoy reading it and muse often over questions and comments. The article by Taggart King really spoke to me. Whew! For some time I have been concerned over my lack of "reiki protocol". Many times as a cross country and track and field coach, I am moved into service with my athletes. Over the last three years they will line up after practice or meets for "the hands". Often I have just jumped right in without thinking of anything but healing, no kanjis, no symbols, just intent and hands. Recently our grandaughter of 6 years of age was jumping on the trampoline and sprained her ankle. After asking her between sobs to wiggle her toes and move her foot and bend her knee I gently placed "the hands" on her ankle. All of this was very traumatic as her dad was leaving for Iraq the next morning. Emotions were high. After about 15 minutes of talking with her and just letting her tell me what she could feel (warmth) I removed my hands. The swelling was gone and the bruising had receded. My son-in-law just stared in amazement. Relieved that there was no trip to the emergency room needed, he just stared and said, " I always thought you were whacked, now I am a believer." We laughed and hugged. Then I said "Just in case you still want to think I am whacked, please take this with you and promise to bring it back." I placed a lovely quartz crystal in his hand. He rolled his eyes but agreed. I have kept it simple in my yoga practice and teaching for the last 30 years and guess that I sub-consciously have applied the same technique in my reiki. I am indeed relieved to know that I am not alone. I have had a hard time memorizing the symbols and figure "Hey, it's in there I just have to believe that it works." Thank you for sharing this, I feel so much better. WHEW!!!

Article: Reiki and Animals by Aileen D'Angelo, RMT, Cn. TPM
http://www.reikiforcritters.com

Reiki and animals are a natural combination. Those of us who do Reiki with humans have had the chance to see the wonderful benefits Reiki brings to folks lives. This is the case with animals as well. In my experience I have come to believe that animals are so much more in touch with the energies around them than we, as humans, often are. This being the case, they are also incredibly open to receiving, and even giving Reiki energy.
My first opportunity to Reiki and animal came when I adopted a Greyhound named George. After deciding that he was the dog for me I needed to wait until he had been neutered before bringing him home. The day of his surgery the adoption agency called to tell me that he had collapsed afterwards and was bleeding internally and was not expected to live through the night. I immediately started sending him Reiki and sending him feelings of love and wanting him to come home to live with me. The next day the agency called to say that the vets could not explain it but he was getting better and they expected him to survive. That was 5 years ago and George is now my class assistant whenever I teach a Reiki class. George also developed a seizure disorder and now comes to me each time he feels one coming on and pushes his head into my hands so I can Reiki him.

Since that time I have had the honor of touching the lives of many companion animals and their people. Each animal who has allowed the honor of touching them in this way has taught me something. I have learned about their willingness to give, I have seen the depth of their unconditional love for their human companions. I have felt them struggle as they try to decide whether or not to hang on for a little while longer (usually for the sake of their person) or to let go and move to the Spirit world.

Working with Reiki and animals is fun, exciting, an exercise in patience and creativity. Some animals take to it immediately and will allow me to work for long periods of time. Others need to take frequent breaks; they go away and then come back a few minutes later for more. Some do not wish to be physically touched but will allow me to beam the Reiki energy towards them. I have learned to watch for very subtle signs that indicate an area that needs work but they are trying to keep me from getting to. And I have learned to ask questions of the humans in their home to see what may be the root cause of the issues facing the animals. Sometimes it is not the animals who have the real issues but their people.

One of the things that amazes me the most is how much our animal friends will take on in an effort to help their human companions. I have experienced them take on physical, emotional, and mental things for their people in an effort to ease the suffering of their human. They are so connected to us and their love for us is so unconditional that there is not anything they will not do in an effort to help us. My first experience with this occurred when doing a distance session for a cat in New Jersey. During the session I had the impression that this cat was suffering from a migraine headache. When I spoke with the owner after the session she informed me that she had been suffering from a migraine for 3 days prior to the session with her cat.

I have had the thrill of watching as I treat one animal in a home that a companion animal will come to help with the session. I am treating a 12 year old German Shepard and each time I see him his cat companion comes to help with the sessions. The first time I was there to treat this wonderful dog I was working on one hip and his cat companion came into the room, he lay down behind this huge dog and placed his paws on the other hip and stayed there for 15 minutes. I have no doubt in my mind or heart that this little cat was giving his pal Reiki and helping with the treatment.

With my own animal companions, my cat Dragon spent 3 days and nights keeping her paws on me after I had a surgery. I felt the energy coming from her when she did this to me and I know she was helping me with my healing process.

There are also times where the highest healing good for the animal is to help to ease their transition from this world to the Spirit world. Though it is sad to see them leave and to see the grief of those they are leaving behind; it is also an awesome privilege to be a part of this process. Being there as a Reiki practitioner during this time of transition is humbling. I have had the honor of being there for several of these and each time it leaves me filled with awe and wonder.

For any Reiki practitioners considering adding animals to their practice I would highly recommend it. My advise would be to watch and listen to the animal, they will show you and teach you. Each of them will be very individual in how they will allow you to work with them. Keep your sense of humor about you and be willing to work with them on their terms (which may also include a lot of time down on the floor). Use petting and massaging as a part of the treatment to help to relax them as they adjust to how the energy feels. And lastly, remember to thank them when you finish for allowing you to touch them in this way.

~~Up for Discussion~~

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue.

Last week's question came from Nicholas: i have a viewpoint i'd like to put before the group: 'all actions are correct as it is karma acting, even bad things!' therefore
don't worry about actions being right or wrong, they are always right for the evolution of your soul and the 'mass soul' of the universe. comments??

Gill: 'all actions are correct as it is karma acting, even bad things! Therefore don't worry about actions being right or wrong, they are always right for the evolution of your soul and the mass soul of the universe?' The Reiki path is one of conscious evolution, one of enlightenment; it quite literally throws light onto a situation, so that we may learn from our&nb sp;mistakes or errors. We then have the choice as to whether we incorporate that learning, i.e. put it into conscious action, or not. We are put onto the earth plane is order to learn. Part of that learning is one of personality responsibility for our actions whether they are conscious or unconscious. Conscious action then puts us back into the Universal flow, so that we can live our lives more joyously rather than through struggle. Reiki enables us to live our lives more joyously and to become the individuals we are truly intended to become, hence fulfilling our own life's purpose. We are each working towards wholeness, union of the Higher Self with the Personality Self. Reiki stands on the cutting edge of conscious evolution right now. It is an energy of pure unconditional love and as such asks us to confront our fears, which are its polar opposite. Through regular practise of Reiki, we become more accepting of self, and in owning our own 'darkness' or individual foibles, we are far less likely to project them out onto the world. In becoming 'way showers', we first of all raise our own conscious awareness, an in becoming solid and conscious lights we are then able to help raise the mass consciousness.

Paul: Nicholas: according to what you just said, any response is the correct response. so, in all do respect, if this is your belief, you already answered your own question. paul

Sandy: I disagree. You are creating karma, good or bad. It's not acting alone as though you have no power over your life. We are all on a spiritual path, but you can derail yourself if you want to and delay your spiritual growth as well as create "bad" karma that will have to be paid back. Think of karma as a credit and debit system. Often good things and growth come from a bad situation because we've chosen to open up and learn from that situation. But knowingly creating a bad situation is not going to create good karma for you.

Karyn: In general, I agree with this statement. I would tend, however, to substitute "for the highest good of all concerned" for the word "right," and "not for the highest good of all concerned" for the word "wrong." I think that spiritually evolved beings will try to make choices with the highest good of all in mind, in the process helping us all evolve to a higher level. Each positive choice we make resonates beyond our personal spheres, and affects the entire One of us. Choosing things that are not good for all also resonates beyond our personal spheres. Therefore choosing the highest good is obviously more productive in the long run - we are all headed in the same direction (reunion with the Creator), and we will all get there more pleasantly when positive energy is sent to all as opposed to negative energy. Choosing the negative will create karma for us, bringing negat ivity into our lives. Choosing the positive will bring positivity into our lives. Now here's a question for you: Is "positivity" even a word? :)

Next week's question comes from Landy: What I would love to know is I did a Reiki 1 course and I enjoyed it tremendously. I did Reiki 1 everyday for at least 45min- 1 hour for about 6 months. I then continued to do the Reiki 2. After doing the Reiki 2 I did not feel the same intensity as I did when I was in tuned at my first Reiki class. So I stopped doing Reiki completely and started going back to my other life which is drinking, smoking, etc. I would love to start doing it again, but I do not feel that drive that I used to have, to do this. Please let me know if anyone went through this stage at all. I know we are all different, but I still would like some guidance or I would like to know is it just me and my lack of dedication? Now when I do Reiki I do not feel the tingly feeling and the heat and the coldness that I use to and it makes me feel sad that it is lost. Please can you help?

~~Just for Fun~~~

The room was full of pregnant women and their partners, and the Lamaze class was in full swing. The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe properly, along with informing the men how to give the necessary assurances at this stage of the plan.

The teacher then announced,

"Ladies, exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. And, gentlemen, it wouldn't hurt you to take the time to go walking with your partner!"

The room really got quiet. Finally, a man in the middle of the group raised his hand.

"Yes?" replied the teacher.

"Is it all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?"
