~~Reflection~~ Teri Moore, editor & RMT

About once a month, I receive an email questioning my publishing of the Second Degree symbols on posters. For the most part, I am criticized for violating the trust placed on us by our teachers and Usui himself. Here's an excerpt from one such letter: "I am a Reiki II practitioner, and taught that the Reiki Symbols are sacred, not to be shared with others. How do you justify selling them publicly? This is . . . disrespectful. Commercializing for the purpose of income."

Typically, I take the time to explain the posters are offered for those who wish to use them as an adjunct teaching tool to the manual I also publish, or if someone wants to hang the artwork in their treatment space.

Yes, I was scolded by my Reiki Teacher during second degree training that the symbols were to remain completely secret. But this was just before publication of Essential Reiki and the Orgone Books and the advent of the World Wide Web. I remember coming home from class with my manual and my husband asking to take a look at it. I held it tight against me and explained I couldn't do that, that it wasn't allowed. You can imagine the look I got. :o]

I'm older now, you might argue not wiser, but I've come to the conclusion that the symbols aren't to be held in secret as much as they are to be held sacred. That is, treated with respect and honor. But I see no harm in sharing them with other Reikis; those who are unattuned don't know what they are and even if they did, if the symbol hasn't been activated within their energy system they have no use for it.

Sacred, not secret. What do you think?

~~Reader's Corner~~

Cristina: Hi, beautiful people! (Morgan, Sandy, Sue, Bonnie, Karen, Willy, Roxy, Dhamiboo, Paul and June). I want to thank you for your responses. Itīs been so very nice of you to write to me, youīve given me the most precious gift, your time, and I appreciate it enormously. The other night I couldnīt sleep and felt terribly low, it was three in the morning and I came to the computer to find your wonderful words. Every one of you said al least one right word that helped me. My husband has had some complications, not very serious but annoying enough to discourage him and it demands me a great deal of work and Reiki to support both of us. It was really rewarding to read your thoughts, personal experiences and invaluable points of view, I felt you people so very near, it was as if God was embracing me through you all. Finally I want to thank you, Teri, for making it possible. Please, do publish my thanks to this beautiful people. Love and light for you all.

Tere: Thanks for the newsletter! I'm excited about these alternatives some of the readers have suggested, and my plan is to discuss it w/the treating physician. Taking on what Richard shared, I am clear that these people cannot drop the medications once they started on them, which is precisely part of the issue. These meds are expensive and scarce , at least here in PR, and this is another reason why alternatives are in search. Thanks again, on behalf of all my clients.

Sandra: I have been reading your newsletter now for four or five times and I would just like to say I love it! Most of the comments and stories are filled with the love that reiki brings. I have become a reiki master in April and still sometimes have the feeling I am at the beginning of my spiritual path. No matter, I enjoy a lot of wonderful new experiences!

Kamal: I can never say 'thank you' enough times! Two years now, and I still eagerly await your ezine every week! Thanks also to all the wonderful contributors who write so clearly about their experiences ..... I consider myself blessed!

Anita, in response to the Discussion on connecting with Reiki Guides: Why not simply play The Ghandarva Experience by Tom Kenyon? The first track of the CD (also available in cassette tape) introduces this channeled ceremony. On Track Two, Tom chants the names of Archangels and calls sacred names from many spiritual paths. Once these Ascended Masters and guides are in place, awareness expands from the heart center and connects with those who have come, as a choir intones during Track Three. During Track Four, awareness is moved to the crown chakra, which is opened to receive the blessings as Tom sings the Twenty-Third Psalms. The Ghandarva Experience is a powerful, profound meditation tool and an amazing beginning to any Reiki healing or training session. When I introduce my students to it, they are awed by the experience and the raised vibrational shift that occurs when so many high-order helpers are gathered.

Comments? Suggestions? Complaints? They don't have to be about the newsletter, just about Reiki or other healing topics. Be heard! Send them in! teri@reikione.com

~~Up for Discussion~~

This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue.

Last week's question came from Sally: I have my Reiki I, II and Advanced. My RMT told us that every time you do a healing on whoever or whatever, you need to draw in the CKR into the palm of your hands. I would just like to know how true this is because I find that for example if a child is ill or has fallen, etc and you still have to draw in the symbols, they look at you as if you are totally mad and then it's "what are you doing?" Is it absolutely essential for you to draw in the symbols to open your palms to be able to channel in the Reiki energy?

Sandy: I have never done anything to open my hands before giving Reiki, and it flows anyway because I'm intending to use Reiki. I usually say a prayer before I start, but if there's an emergency and I put my hands down first, it will still work. When I want to draw symbols, I usually do it in my mind, feeling that I'm drawing from my third eye, but sometimes I'll draw them with my hands.

Anita: Intent is all that is needed to start the Reiki flow. Drawing or visualizing the Cho Ku Rei, of course, will boost the amount of energy being sent--in the same manner that it will strengthen or propel another Reiki symbol drawn before it. This is similar in effect to administering a second antibiotic or analgesic to boost a primary treatment. If you are in an awkward position but are being spirit-led to physically draw a symbol, you can always draw with your tongue on the roof of your mouth. The laser chakras behind the eyes are powerful conduits for sending Reiki and visualized Reiki symbols.

David: I have not found it to be necessary to actually draw the symbols to have access to the Reiki energy. Just the intent to use a particular symbol seems to work to bring that symbol in...after all, we have been attuned already and the symbols were placed in our hands at that time.

Taggart: No, Sally, it is not absolutely essential for you to draw in the symbols to open your palms to be able to channel in the Reiki energy. In fact it is not necessary at all. There will be many, many people within the world of Reiki who have never done such a thing and yet their Reiki works fine. You have been attuned to Reiki and you have the ability always. The energy is there for you to use whenever you want. You rest your hands on someone, still your mind, and let the energy flow. All other details are optional. It's nice sometimes to have a little ritual to focus you on what you want to do (like saying "Reiki On" when you first make contact with someone), but all such rituals are optional and unnecessary. Reiki is simple. Why complicate it by introducing unnecessary rules and regulations?

Roberta: As you become more experienced with using Reiki in all circumstances, you will find yourself automatically calling in the symbols in various ways. You can draw them mentally, visualize them, or just intend that they be drawn on your palms or on the recipient. It takes only seconds. After awhile, you will find that just thinking about Reiki invokes the symbols automatically. Your teacher was teaching you the basics as they should be taught. Once you learn them, you are free to apply them in any way that feels right to you. The beauty of Reiki is you can't do it wrong!

Next week's question comes from Laine: The question I have is, since the Universal Life energy comes from the universe and we and the earth are all part of the same energy, why do "we" assume the Reiki energy comes from the universe and not each of us? We are connected to everything and are one in the same.

~~Just for Fun~~~

When Peters learned that he was being fired, he went to see the head of human resources. "Since I've been with the firm for so long," he said, "I think I deserve at least a letter of recommendation."

The human resources director agreed and said he'd have the letter that next day. The following morning, Peters found the letter on his desk. It read, "Jonathan Peters worked for our company for eleven years. When he left us, we were very satisfied."
