~~Reflection~~ Teri Moore, editor & RMT

After a week of rain, the sun finally broke through the clouds this morning. Its rays reflected on drops of rain still clinging to the purple spikes of lavender, sending small rainbows through my garden. A small, bright red finch came to rest on the branches of the willow where it dipped down to the lake. A cool moist breeze blew across the grass. Tall pink hollyhocks swayed with the wind, the large leaves tangling with peppermint and marguerite daisies, sweet scents filling the air.

A beautiful day. A gift from the Universe. And I am filled with gratitude.

~~Reader's Corner~~

Teri: I recently commissioned a Reiki Kanji in a custom script for ReikiOne.com. You can find it displayed on all sorts of things at the ReikiOne CafeShop at http://www.cafeshops.com/reikionep. Stop by if you get a chance and let me know what you think!

David, on an earlier Discussion: A belated answer to the question about attuning someone with multiple personalities. I believe we are attuning the soul (or spirit), not the manifestation of the soul/spirit we experience as the personality (fragmented or otherwise), in this the "material" world. Further, each personality is part of her "whole" so even if only one (or less than all) of her personalities were attuned (could "do" Reiki afterward), the energy is affecting the real "her", through one or more of the "fragments". This person has experienced Reiki treatments, presumably without "negative" reactions. Attunements and treatments are more alike than different -- certainly at their heart is the Divine Reiki energy. Given that she has asked for attunement, I would not hesitate to give it to her. While we ought beware not to impose our views about what constitutes "helping" or "best" for any person, I believe it would very likely "help" with the multiple personality disorder (assuming that serves her highest purpose). What could be more healing to a "shattered" person than "a dose of" Divinity? How can any experience of Divine healing energy -- attunement, treatment, or whatever) be other than for ones greatest good? It is only we humans, with imperfect perception, that worry about what is best for someone, and believe we have to figure it out.... Remember, she asked for to be attuned.

Willy, on last issue's Reflection column: It is more than a year now that I'm growing towards a Reiki III attunement. At first, part of my aim was to collect as much literature about Reiki I could get hold of, in order to study, compare and evaluate all those different opinions. For quite a while, I believed that by doing so, I would find the right way to work with an teach Reiki 'correctly'. Nicole, my Reiki Master, told me to carry on, but to bare in mind what the issue really is : 'letting the energy flow'. So I went on, and the more I read, the more I drifted away, until a couple of weeks ago, I read a number of articles by Mr. Taggart King that put me back on my feet promptly. Why ? Well, Mr. King made clear to me again that, no matter how simple or complicate we make things, Reiki works plainly, simply and directly. My very first lesson by Nicole came to mind : 'Reiki has nothing whatsoever to do with dogma', yet the amount of dogmatic stuff I came across in books and on the internet, is huge. 'Reiki is a very simple technique', yet the complicity of some techniques described, is huge. 'We don't master the Reiki energy, we are only a service-hatch to pass the energy through', yet I found a lot of self-complacency. I also know some people who really depend on the 'rules' they're taught, who actually believe that the Reiki they give -though given with the right intention- doesn't work at all if they don't meticulously follow those rules. Now, isn't that a shame ? Don't people 'shoot themselves in the foot before they even begin' ? IMHO, the mental level takes over, and that's OK as long as the healer can work comfortably, as long as the rules are merely a way to focus more easily. But when the rules get their own life and take over the intention, then it starts to go wrong. Spirituality doesn't need to be earnest or arduous. The more energy we stick into 'keeping the rules in mind', the less energy we have left to 'go with the flow'. And please allow me to add even some more controversy. My wife gave a lot of distant Reiki healing before her second attunement. She really wanted to help people with Reiki, and on many occasions we experienced the 'recipients' actually felt the energy coming in, without even knowing my wife was sending it. So, I wish to express a lot of gratitude to Mr. T. King, and to Nicole as well, for putting me back on the right track. Moreover, I would like to invite everyone to at least try to clear off some of the 'garbage' and observe what happens open-minded. Feel free to enjoy it !

KayC: Again more fantastic Reiki discussion...It is wonderful to see so many different views, keep up the good work! In response to Myrya, on an earlier discussion: Jennifer... I am a Reiki Master Teacher and have encountered this subject before. I do believe that Reiki attunements are passed on to unborn children. So I have to believe that Reiki Attunements should not be done on pregnant women. The fetus/child has no choice but to except Reiki and this may not necessarily be the child's future path.
From KayC in response to the above...I also believe that Reiki attunements are passed onto an unborn child. Does this child have a choice to accept this? Maybe...maybe not, we cannot know this for sure, but to receive Reiki is OUR choice(note that this decision often happens on a higher level), no-one can be forced... we know of this! Every being that accepts Reiki is accepting Reiki/energy healing. To receive an attunement is a gift to us to utilize for others. The fetus has a soul/energy, therefore the fetus can choose to accept this gift. What is the child's future path...who are we to say that they can or cannot use Reiki energy for the healing of themselves or others? If they are 'brought up' in the Reiki way, they will naturally use this healing energy without a second thought or a doubt.. It is only our 'social' standards that we are accustomed to that dampen our spirits or plant a seed of 'doubt' into our minds. If we chose not to teach that unborn child about the gift within them, they would obviously go about life following our 'social' standards, and would then maybe stumble across their ability later in life (just like we are starting to do now!) I feel that the time is right to start bringing our children into a world of love and peace and natural healing...Sit back and watch the children in the park play, what happens when one of them hurt themselves.. a few will surely stop to help, they want to touch or hug that hurt child, this healing ability is within us all, It is just a matter of time before it will progress from being a learning journey to a 'way of life'!

Kimberlee: Thanks for the Hollywood Squares excerpts. I laughed out loud even though it is Monday morning at work.

Anita, on an earlier Discussion of Reiki and Pregnancy: I believe that "intent" is the prime directive in any healing modality. You can read books buy two teachers, each describing a problem, each using a technique that is a direct opposite of the other, and each achieving the same end results. The ONLY commonality is INTENT. Reiki attunements given during pregnancy will only attune the fetus if that is the Intent and permission is given from the fetal soul and its guides. Period. Yes, the fetus can feel the Reiki, and can feel the mother's response to any cleansing the same way it would feel anything the mother experienced physically. The focus should be on what is for the Highest Good of all concerned. Is it in the best interest of the mother at this time to expand her capacity to help herself and her child? Is it in the best interest to wait, and for how long? Reiki is a calling, and we need to be Spirit-led in deciding how, where, when, and from whom we receive attunements. If Spirit says now, then now it should be regardless of what others may think. If Spirit says wait, then we should see this as an opportunity to increase in knowledge, understanding, patience and acceptance and be ready when the time is right.

Surendra: i am an indian , from pune city. we are arranging one , one day seminar on reiki and similar techniques in last week of august 2003. if anybody from other countries is willing to join us in the seminar and he is available in the last week of august for any reason , he / she is definitely welcome to us. being a small setup we can not provide any big facilities , therefore kindly let us know about his expectations equally. kindly suggest somebody who may be present in pune and can join us on the day. patsurendra@indiainfo.com patsurendra@vsnl.net

~~Reiki Experience~~

Current Experience from Chris
I am currently wondering whether reiki is working for me at the moment. On the one hand I realise that once attuned you have reiki for life, yet my current experiences in life are causing me to question whether reiki can be working for my 'highest good'. I have been doing my daily reiki self treatments to no avail. Is it possible to become de-activated?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Responses!
Karyn: The word "expectations" came to mind when I read your note. Is it possible that you might be thinking your daily treatments are to no avail because you are expecting something specific from them? Reiki will go where it is needed; as channels, we don't know where it is needed, all we can do is channel and join our intent to the highest good. Another thing to consider is that we don't always know what our "highest good" is. But we do know that the Universe/God is always working towards that end. Therefore, we can choose to align with that, and trust that it is working. Please remember that even in times that seem bad, the seeds of good things are planted in there somewhere. Trust the Universe. Trust. Trust that the good is in there, because it is. When you find that trust, it is easier to nurture the good that is coming, and easier to endure the "bad" times. It is during the "bad" times we are given the opportunity to expand our trust. Also, you don't say how long it's been since you were attuned; perhaps your current experiences are part of your clearing. I don't think your Reiki is deactivated at all. Continue your daily treatments, and trust!
Bonnie: No, you will never become deactivated from reiki once you're attuned....are you eating bright colored foods?? You must if you are to get the best of reiki energies for you and your clients. You cannot smoke or indulge in a lot of alcohol.....that takes the energy away (it blocks it as well), and so does a lot of caffeine.
A New Reiki Experience
Mary: First thank-you for your newsletter. After a long absence, more than a year, I am trying to bring Reiki back into my life. On my journey to raise my consciousness, I ran into the idea that healing others was Karmicly wrong. That went against all my Reiki training - level3. But the newsletter brought it all back, focus, intent, using the bubble or white light as a shield. A shield should provide protection from negativity. My heart tells me to use Reiki for the highest good, whether that be for family,friend, myself or the earth. But my mind is warning me not to, for to heal is to take on another's Karma. But then when I've practiced on others, its not me, its the Reiki flowing thru my hands. There was a particular women with cancer, the session with her was so strong, so peaceful, it was as if she drew the energy that she needed from me or rather thru me. Have you talked to others who have experienced, a blockage like this before. I have started a 21-day self-treatment, to get back in touch with the energy. I would appreciate your comments and suggestions.
~~Reiki Haiku~~
A Reiki poem from Paul
reiki is in you,
reiki was always in you,
reiki's still in you-
it is not givin,
it cannot be givin back,
it was always there-
it is what lived before you,
it is what lives in you now,
it is what lives after you.
happiness, happiness, happiness-
~~Up for Discussion~~
This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue.
Last week's question came from Anita: I would like to know how some people are able to receive all the attunements up to Master level within a short period of time. For example I know of people who were attuned to all levels within 6 months and have advertised and opened up their own practices. Is this possible? I was attuned to Reiki 1 in September 2001 and Reiki 2 in November 2002. Now I've been told that I can only be attuned to level 3 in October this year. Why is there a waiting period for the different attunements for some and not others? And also why do costs for the course differ?
Myrya: I am a Reiki Master/Teacher (RMT) and I have my students wait 2-3 months after Reiki I to receive Reiki II, then I have them wait a year for Reiki III. Some RMT's feel that it isn't necessary to wait between levels, but with the Traditional Usui method (the method I was taught and use) we try to follow the same rules to create balance and equality between students. By waiting between Reiki levels it gives you time to get used to the energy flow, go through your 21 day cleansing and creates spiritual balance. In my opinion, having different prices for the different levels partially assures that the student is making an effort to go on the to the next level and working towards that goal. As an RMT, I believe that there should be a bare minimum of one year to get through all the Reiki levels. What other RMTs do is a personal choice and what seems to work best for their students. Perhaps you should talk with your Reiki Teacher about this subject and find out what his/her stance is on the matter. Good luck on your Reiki path!
Sudha: Anita, regarding your query regarding the difference in attunement periods, I personally feel that the gap between the attunements helps in getting deeper and deeper into the experience of energy. You face different experiences while healing others and yourself. This stabilizes your faith and belief in the reiki energy as a healing system. I personally learnt reiki over a period of 6 years. I am much more confident and sure of the reiki energy healing system. I know a friend of mine who went thro' the reiki attunements within a period of 6 months (up to the master's level). She is still not confident of reiki as a healing system. She faces a lot of self doubts. I hope you will be convinced about taking reiki attunements at a leisurely phase and let it seep into you. so that it can become a part of you.
Paul: Anita, i would like to say that reiki has different prices because of fear and ego, which is the same reason people put limits on it and complicate it.... people come up with all kinds of deceptions like, this reiki is of higher vibration or this reiki is channeled from masters from another dimension, or this is THE original reiki. the best is when someone tells you that the others are not REALLY reiki, because they don't do so and so or use this and that. and our reiki uses 500 symbols that makes it more of a complete reiki, plus it has 7 levels that include the 9 rays of the such and such ascended master... 1 level or 20, who is right? the answer is... what makes you feel good?... does finding a master on a weekend at a hotel that gives you all three levels in one attunement for $300, or does seeking out a master who has channeled 40 new symbols and opened a new school where you can attend his/her classes for 3 years and apprentice for 5 years and it'll only cost you a mere $2500 for all 7 levels and an added bonus of 101 secret symbols and a handy set of this and that with our logos for no extra cost?.. so I say again,,, what makes you feel good to do? what does your heart tell you?... rei means UNIVERSAL spirit, ki means energy.... that's what it is... that's what you are awakened to... you already are it... it was always there... you just have to realize this... go with what your heart tells you.
Karen: I've recommended a book before on this discussion group, and I'd very much like to recommend it again to Anita as it will answer her questions perfectly: 'Dancing with the Devil as you Channel the Light', written by David Ashworth. You can obtain it direct from David's website at www.davidashworth.com. David explains very clearly what happens during a Reiki attunement, and why it's sensible to leave time between attunements to allow you to adjust to the energy changes taking place. It's a pretty powerful process and shouldn't be underestimated. Although, it's true there are rare occasions when a person's energy is robust enough to take more attunements in a shorter space of time, it's usually not recommended that you rush the process! I hope this helps, Anita.
Marion: Good questions. I, too, found myself on the slow path to Reiki III and do not regret it. In fact, after more than three years I feel that my relationship with my Reiki master ended before I completed everything I wanted to learn. As you may know, there are many ways of teaching Reiki and because it is not regulated (thank heavens!) we all find the path we need at the time we need it. You are gaining experience with each level so that you will recognize how they differ and inter-relate. It is frustrating at times. A good friend received her Reiki III attunement for free during a share group, while I waited much longer & paid $2,500. Experience is never wasted. I feel very confident in the attunements that I share, even though I know the methods I learned do not match what I have found on the internet or in books. I know what my students and I experience. And yet that is the dilemma. We all say we are Reiki practitioners / masters / teachers - and we are. Some are led to learn just for themselves, some are led to teach. There are no easy answers & I refuse to engage in that old "who's Reiki is the REAL Reiki?" debate. We just all end up looking like idiots when that happens (in my opinion...) I try to use discernment as I look at websites & read books to see what feels like truth to me. That's all I can do. I have heard the same concerns expressed by experienced Upledger Cranial Sacral therapists. Some have had years of varying levels of training and then see someone emerge from their first weekend advertise that they do the same stuff for the same or greater fees. Scarcity thinking threatens us all. I know that the clients & students I am meant to help will find me. (I also promote Reiki on my website & cards.) Somehow I trust that there is a way for us all to co-exist. And I have to admit that scarcity thinking rumbles around my brain, too. I think it's part of being human. Some practitioners go on to other types of energy work and add it to their practice. So far Usui Traditional Reiki seems to be my path. It is enough for me right now.
Next week's question comes from Ray: I am wondering is it possible for one to abuse Reiki Skills? . . . And on the same note from another reader, Is it possible for someone to become obsessed with Reiki?
~~Just for Fun~~~
Brian Hester invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but keep noticing how beautiful Brian's roommate, Stephanie, was.
Mrs.Hester had long been suspicious of a relationship between Brian and Stephanie, and this had only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two react, Mrs. Hester started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Stephanie, than met the eye. Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you Stephanie and I are just roommates."
About a week later, Stephanie came to Brian saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle.You don't suppose she took it, do you?"
Brian said, "Well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure."
So he sat down and wrote:
"Dear Mother, I'm not saying that you "did" take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not saying that you "did not" take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.
Love, Brian"
Several days later, Brian received a letter from his mother that read:
"Dear Son, I'm not saying that you "do" sleep with Stephanie, and I'm not saying that you "do not" sleep with Stephanie. But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now.
Love, Mom"
LESSON OF THE DAY ... NEVER LIE TO YOUR MOTHER
