~~Reflection~~ Teri Moore, editor & RMT

A bit of business - for those of you who haven't received a newsletter for several weeks, I've finally discovered why . . . our ISP, in an effort to reduce the amount of spam that filters through their servers on a daily basis, decided to limit the amount of emails any one account can send out in an hour (without notifying customers). This number was well below the 2200 subscribers who are on the ReikiOne list so it would seem only about half of you were getting the newsletter. Our ISP has made a concession and increased the ReikiOne account to 2500 subscribers. In the meantime, Terry and I will be figuring out how to handle the situation from our end for the time when we pass the limit the ISP has imposed on us. Who knew we'd encounter such stuff when I started the newsletter a little over 2 years ago? Of course, at that time, we only had about a 100 subscribers. Look how the list has grown! And it's all thanks to you for forwarding and recommending the newsletter to your friends and students. Your sharing is greatly appreciated.

For those of you who have been missing the newsletters, you're always welcome to visit the archives at http://www.reikione.com/news. If you find a Discussion topic you'd like to respond to, please feel free to - I love to hear from you!

Bright blessings and days filled with light and love as you go forth into this brand new week!

~~Reader's Corner~~

Teri: FYI: I've recently created about 40 new graphic designs for ReikiWear, GoddessWear and Om&YogaWear for the ReikiOne Shop. The designs have been placed on items ranging from t-shirts to sweatshirts to hoodies to clocks to mugs to posters and postcards. I hope you'll stop by for a visit when you get a chance and let me know what you think. And, if you see a design you like but it's not the item you'd like it on, drop me an email and I'll see what I can do! http://www.cafepress.com/reikionep .

Allison: I just have to write and tell you how absolutely MARVELOUS your weekly Reiki newsletter is. Also, I clicked on all your amazing merchandise - how fun is all that?!

Debbie, on last week's Reflection: Loved your reflection today...and p.s. Mercury is in retrograde, so maybe that's what the boat was responding to! Thanks for all of your good work.

Renee: i absolutely love the just-for-fun part of your e-letter and your personal contemplations ...

Comments? Suggestions? Complaints? They don't have to be about the newsletter, just about Reiki or other healing topics. Be heard! Send them in! teri@reikione.com

~~Reiki Experience~~

Readers respond to Maryann's Reiki Experience:

Jackie: It is quite possible that the Universe was trying to encourage Maryanne not to take her Reiki attunement with this particular Reiki Teacher. We are always guided to a particular teacher for a particular reason without knowing why there are many many wonderful Reiki Teachers out there but we must always be guided by our inner self in finding the right Teacher at the right time.

Rosemary: Yes, it's happened to me each time I was about to make that leap forward, my car would stall (this happened twice in a brand new vehicle). I got a ride both times,NOT letting that car or anything else get in my way.(By the way, nothing was wrong with my car!!) The third time, I got a cold the day before, and the fourth time a headache. I saw each event as a little test. I really think that these stumbling blocks appear to see how much we are committed to moving ahead. Don't let it stop you from learning this wonderful technique. Reiki can "bring out" any lurking problems to help the body rid them, or rebalance health issues. Hmmm, maybe that strange feeling is a rebalancing process in the body system. Of course, have your dr. check you out carefully. Once attuned, the body will "sloth off" any unneeded junk in the way of negative thinking, illness, etc. The soul makes a dramatic leap forward as life lessons integrate. We get life lessons even without reiki, but they are dealt with in a shorter period of time so that the person can move forward more quickly on a spiritual level. Reiki works in the way that the body needs and can do NO harm. I encourage you to learn more, feel safe in the process, find a person you trust to teach you, and when you feel ready, you will move forward. If you felt "already attuned" very young, my intuition tells me you are holding in (and have blocked) healing energies that need to be released. My hands tingled and were numb for a YEAR before I decided to learn. My hands couldn't wait for me to be ready.(I visited 2 doctors who couldn't find a thing wrong) Once I learned reiki , ALL numbness and discomfort stopped.

Renee: I was told that after attunement there could be emotional stuff coming up (and it did !!!)... not only that, but everybody who receives reiki treatment might experience the same ( this is one of the reasons to ask for permission to give or send reiki - ) i am also a hypnotherapist and work with regression, this life or past lives ... i have complete faith in the Universe and her wisdom ... meaning that i trust whatever comes up is for the highest good for my client and for me ..
my client and/or i will never get anything that we are not able to handle during a session (or in life) ... Before i "found" my reikimaster i had a similar experience .. up to three times i was not "allowed' to be initiated ... there were always circumstances that prevented me from taking the course, until i found the one that i needed ... please don't think that you are not allowed to be initiated ... maybe you haven't found your master yet .... as for the ms dx ... i am a firm believer in the body-mind and since you mentioned that you and your husband had some issues to work on, or maybe returning to work is part of a process that you are going through - please find a good body-mind therapist to work with you ... sending you reiki healing ...

Shelly: I have a friend, the friend that showed me to the way to Reiki. She happens to have many illnesses one being MS. She is a second degree Reiki practitioner. So not really sure why it happening that way for you other then it wasn't time for you at that time and maybe you had some issues to work out first. Keep trying when the time is right it will happen for you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maryann: Last fall I attended a weekend with a wonderful group of people that included, a Reiki Master (or 3/4), Angel therapy woman, hypnotist, feng shui, yoga instructor, and physics.
It was a wonderful experience and extremely spiritual. Upon returning home I had an odd feeling on my left side, it was if someone was brushing me with a wire brush. While I could feel it lightly it became stronger when I came in contact with my husband. At first I tried to ignore him but eventually I had to tell him what was going on. I prayed and meditated all week, and also wrote to the woman whom had done the Reiki on me for help. She said to ground myself and meditate, and let her know if it got worse. By Saturday I was not better and I found myself at a New Age Fair and I located someone to give me Reiki. I immediately felt better and have been involved in her meditation group ever since. When this kind soul gave me Reiki she told me that I had the hottest head she has ever felt, and actually pulled her hands away like from a stove. The Reiki worked and the brushing sensations stopped. I also took this as a wake up call to clear up something's with my husband, and we did.
Because I wanted to be Attuned to Reiki First Degree, I signed up for her course, only to be told that she felt I would again have a reaction if I did it so close to the holidays. So I waited. Then I signed up again, only to start to have medical issue come up that could be life altering. So again I have to cancel. I am starting to wonder if it is possible that the universe just does not want me to be attuned. I have always felt as if I all ready am attuned and regularly send unofficial Reiki/blessing to people and have since I was a small child.
Has anyone ever seen something like this before? I have heard Reiki can bring up all kinds of emotional stuff when you are attuned. Can Reiki set off a disease process in the body? The dx they are looking at is possible MS. Could this be why she could not touch my head? Any thoughts you might have would be helpful. Any Reiki you could send my way would also be appreciated, after a couple of months of being distracted with this, I need to get back to my life of working with emotionally handicapped high school kids.
~~Up for Discussion~~
This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue.
Last week's question came from Lisa: I'd like to know if any of you before doing a healing on a client do a small meditation with the client first; if so do you have a few you would like to share. i'm a reiki level 2.
There were no responses to this question last week. If you'd still like to offer comments, please feel free to send them in!
Next week's question comes from Libby: I have a friend who has really, really bad eczema all over her body. It's an autoimmune disease (in her case anyway.) She's had Reiki treatments from someone before and loved it, while the treatment went on, but says that her itching, burning and inflammation seemed to become worse or become activated after a treatment. She's going through a bad time right now, and I'd thought of offering her some Reiki. Does anyone have any experience with treating people with eczema?
Insurance: Reiki Hands on Trade Insurance by Kim Henderson
As a Reiki Master and former Massage Therapist I have come to find that rates for insurance regarding Hands on Therapy is either impossible to find or extremely high. As the Founder of AlternativeBalance.com and The U.S. Reiki Connection I now offer insurance that makes sense and cost less then $200 a year with membership included! This insurance plan covers any energy work, massage or touch therapist, whether you are doing massage in your own office, a spa, at a sporting event, clinic, shopping mall or corporate office… this plan offers the protection you need!
Is Insurance Necessary?
To protect your business property, personal property, wage earning, reputation and the ability to continue doing hands-on therapies, insurance protection is a necessary addition to your professional practice. If you are not covered by insurance that protects you from claims made against the work you do, then you are leaving yourself open for a lawsuit. If you think having insurance just gives someone access to the deep pockets of your insurance carrier, think again. Without insurance you can be personally sued for future earnings, and anything you might own. Although you may be innocent, you may still be put out of business. If you do not have the proper legal assistance to fight a claim, or the reserves to pay a successful claim, you are very vulnerable. Insurance is protection against both false and real claims.
To learn more about insurance issues please feel free to visit my website at www.AlternativeBalance.com or contact me at alternativebalance@mail.com
Please send your ideas/experiences/thoughts/pitfalls on starting and maintaining a Reiki practice to teri@reikione.com.
Article: Acceptance by Linda White Dove www.lindawhitedove.com
Hello Dear Friends. I wish to speak with you today about the powerful healing tool called acceptance. That’s right, acceptance. Many of you think of acceptance as giving up. You think of it as being passive. That is not what true acceptance is.
Acceptance is letting go of the struggle mentality around something. When you struggle about something, you are exerting a lot of effort that can be better put to use. When you struggle, you are so busy fighting and pushing away, that you are unable to see the problem for what it is and find the solution. When you push something away, you deny its existence and therefore you cannot heal it. You cannot heal what you do not experience. Many of you spend years and perhaps lifetimes trying to avoid something, trying to keep something at arms length because of fear. As a result you are keeping yourself at arms length too.
The very act of acceptance is in itself a very loving and compassionate act. When you accept something happening in your life, you are embracing a part of yourself. Everything that happens to you, your entire life, is a part of you. If it is painful or difficult, you can bet there is an orphaned part of you, that wants nothing more than to come home and be nurtured, accepted and loved. When you accept, you open the door for yourself, instead of shutting yourself out.
Allowing yourself to be loved (by loving yourself), is the most important part of acceptance, and what makes it a extremely powerful healing tool. Love is the energy that underlies all of life. Love heals. When you love what is, you find the healing it contains. You do not have to go searching for answers or techniques. The pain and anguish of denial and struggle are gone. The fear of the situation is gone. You are left with the experience of discovering that there is nothing to fear at all. You may find the situation changes (it most likely will), or it may not. However, it no longer matters. When you remove the fear about something, you disarm it.
Aikido teaches how to work with the “energies” of push and pull. It teaches that when someone pulls you towards them, instead of resisting and trying to pull away, if you move in their direction, working with the momentum they have provided, they have no power over you. Acceptance likewise involves going with the flow, using the energies present in a situation, regardless of how adverse it may seem, as a partner in your healing process. Acceptance means rolling with the changes, the punches. And although Aikido may be referred to as self defense, it is more accurate to think of it as common sense.
I hope that this writing has added a little bit of light and insight to the concept of acceptance. The most powerful and wonderful healing tools are often the ones that are manifest around you in everyday life. This is because they work! Sometimes it is easy to miss them because they are not flashy or popular, or because they are misunderstood. Healing does not have to be a struggle. It can be a gentle, and easy pleasure. You deserve it.
~~Music/Book Review~~
from Libby: I have always loved Paul Horn's "Inside the Taj Mahal," (Singing and Flute inside the dome of the Taj Mahal) for a soaring meditative kind of music. I first heard it in 1970, but I think it might be out on CD nowadays... There is an old man there who sings prayers and Paul Horn "dances" with his prayers on the flute and does some solo flute pieces too, which echo and reverberate in intricate patterns. It's very cool... very relaxing, very soothing.
Read a good book or heard some good music, healing-wise? Write a review and I'll include it in the newsletter. Email your review to teri@reikione.com.
~~Just for Fun~~~
A man lay sprawled across three entire seats in the posh theater. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the man, "Sorry, sir, but you're only allowed one seat."
The man groaned but didn't budge. The usher became impatient.
"Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."
Again, the man just groaned, which infuriated the usher who turned and marched briskly back up the aisle in search of his manager. In a few moments, both the usher and the manager returned and stood over the man.
Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move him, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police.
The cop surveyed the situation briefly then asked, "All right buddy, what's your name?"
"Sam," the man moaned.
"Where ya from, Sam?"
With pain in his voice Sam replied, "The balcony."
