Archived issues of this newsletter are available for viewing at http://www.reikione.com/news/. So much has changed since the last newsletter, it's almost unbelievable to me the events unfolding on my television screen. Please know all the love and light in my heart goes out to those of you who are touched one way or another by the events taking place in the world today. My oldest son turned 21 yesterday and in one month he leaves for bootcamp for the Army Reserves. It's really starting to hit me and I was overwhelmed with emotion off and on all day Saturday. He's been assured he won't have to go into combat. Apparently, they want to keep the paralegal/lawyer-types stateside, which is a blessing. Except I'm old enough to remember Viet Nam and how they sent pretty much anyone who could walk over there to fight. I was young, though, and maybe my memories aren't so clear. But he's determined and I have to let him live his life the way he chooses. I imagine it's like that with the Universe. We make our choices, and the Universe sits back and watches us taking our baby steps. There's comfort in knowing that, no matter what, the Universe is there . . . and so is its healing energy. Comments or thoughts? Email Teri at teri@reikione.com. Teri: A while back, I asked if there were any other Reiki Artist-types out there. I received many responses and finally have set up a place we can call home here at ReikiOne. Just go to http://www.reikione.com/flamingo to visit the new message center for Reiki and Art. Everyone's welcome to register and share in the discussions combining energy healing and creativity. White Dove: Thought you might like to know about the Sixth Annual New England Reiki Conference. The theme is "Awakening the Heart, Deepening Our Practice in a World of Change." The conference is Friday April 11th (pre conference intensive workshops) and Saturday April 12th. I will be co-facilitating two pre conference intensives on the 11th Shamballa Reiki level 1 and Shamballa Reiki level 2). If you would like more information regarding the conference or the pre conference intensives you can visit the conference website at: cgnh@earthlink.net If you wish to attend, it is best to register as soon as possible. Last year many of the workshops were sold out, the Shamballa Reiki level 1 which I offered was filled way in advance!!!! Kim, on an earlier Reflection: I have only been attuned to Reiki since August 2002 and I found your ezine about 2 weeks after my attunement. I look forward to your ezine every week. It has been a source of information and comfort to me. I was thrilled to read the reflection on 3/9/03. I say a Gnostic prayer everyday in which I ask for the white light of the Holy Spirit, the purple light of spirituality, the gold light of God-centeredness,and the silver light of higher consciousness to surround me. I also ask for the green light of healing even though it was not included in the original Gnostic prayer. I would love to have anyone "see" me surrounded by a light with the colors you mentioned! I know they do surround me but I really like validation. I am happy for you to have had this experience. Also, I would like to thank you for your ezine. God Bless You. Sudha, on an earlier Reflection: i had a similar experience about being a rmt and not being able to cure my migraine. i faced the criticism of my family members. 'if you can't cure yourself, how can you claim to cure others with reiki' was echoing in my mind. i felt bad about the whole thing. on the brighter side of my personal experience is that i had perpetual throat infection. after is got into reiki, i have been placing my hand on my throat when ever i had a sore throat and believe me i have never got a sore throat so far.after reading your magazine, i felt so good. i think we have to realise not to over expect from reiki. it is not magic. it definitely goes to the problem area and cures where ever there is need for healing.we view everything on the surface and feel dejected if reiki does not cure where we feel we want the cure. reiki does not cure but heals. so lets all have faith in the universal healing energy and take life as it comes. Sue, on an earlier Reflection: What a lot I have learned in the past couple of weeks thanks to this newsletter. I too have to live with taking medications everyday and am - sorry was - embarrassed about working in healing whilst being a fake not able to heal myself! Changed my way of thinking and I accept my illness as part of me and sometimes the healing is to take away the condition totally and sometimes we simply need to have this condition. It has given me a great understanding of living with pain and also depression which gives me the ability to clearly be empathic with my clients. I also understand where additional pain can come from when 'compensating' for primary pain etc. and I am also realistic with what can be expected from not only Reiki sessions but life itself. The first thing I think of when I treat a new client is ' do they want attuning into the first degree so they can begin to heal themselves?'. I never think 'they are suffering from depression etc so are not able to offer Reiki purely'. As in my previous reply re: mental illness, my spiritual brain is positive and open to all things, my earthly brain offers the negativity and doubt. I am often given little challenges to remind me of this. So my thoughts move forward and I progress with my journey with thanks to all involved with this newsletter. Maggie, on the Discussion of Reiki & Childbirth: I was fortunate enough to have a doula with reiki and I myself am a Gale, on an earlier Reflection: reading your article on reflection and your being in awe of being able to do your classes even though you had a lot you were going through, brought me back to my workplace where I was a therapeutic recreation therapist in charge of a psyche /drug unit... I seemed to give my all and do my best work with clients when I was in crisis(so to speak) myself.. I was always great at hiding and I have found since I started my journey in Reiki, I am experiencing more of showing not just a select few but all I come in contact with the real me.. It feels good.. I live in an over 55 community in the winter and did some good deeds but remained very much in the background... since my reiki experience, I am able to tell people and let them know who I am... As a result of the freeing up I have felt. I was made Resident of the month, with a nice article written...the energy I am feeling is very strong and very calming for me... Teri: Thanks everyone who came to Amazon.com and posted reviews of my Reiki books. Send them in! teri@reikione.com Neva: I am relatively new to Reiki but have found a way to use it I have not seen discussed in your newsletter. When I first started easing my friend's painful arthritic hands, she would return to me in just a couple of days wanting me to do Reiki on her again. I did not want to create a dependency situation but I wanted her to have the relief she needed. My husband is an artist whose medium is steel plate. One day I was guided to design a "healing piece" for my friend. My husband cut it out according to my request, and I ground it very smooth. Holding it in my hands, I sent energy into it and intended that the energy was to be available to whoever held it with the intent to receive the energy. I am happy to report that it works not just for her but other members of her family as well. She tells me she doesn't need to use it as often now. Since then I have made several other pieces each with a design unique to the intended recipient. Have an experience you'd like to share or comments on an experience posted here? This column features a different question each week for your musing, opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next issue. Last week's question came from Karen: I received my Reiki I attunement approximately 12 months ago, and I'm looking to take Reiki II within the next few months. However, I'd like to be able to send Reiki to the current war situation and I wonder if I can do that - i.e. without the use of the distance symbol? I read in an earlier issue that it was the 'intent' that mattered with Reiki and it was possible to manage without the symbols. If this is the case, how exactly do I send Reiki to a situation, please? Renee: I am sure that you have "sent" thoughts of love and energy to loved ones many times - just telling them that you will be "thinking" of them is all that is needed - And so it is with sending thoughts of Peace to a troubled area on our planet - Next week's question comes from Santosh: i want to ask you a few things about your experiences. I have had formal attunement of reiki a couple of years back. Since then i take out at least a few minutes.. maybe 1 or 2 some days to 5 odd minutes on others for reiki. But in spite of that, i am never able to concentrate on my act..even while performing reiki....that's the irony. can you please suggest me some remedies to my problem. at least as to how should i change my habits or maybe my daily routine to be able to concentrate better ...while performing reiki and on the whole as well. " What To Do When You're In A Sales Slump ..." By Otto Collins So, here's the question. What do you do when your sales are slow and you don't know why? The short answer to this is to go "back to the basics." Back when I used to sell radio advertising there was a guy I worked with that used to say the only thing you had to do to be successful in selling radio advertising was to "sell and collect the money." While this was his running mantra--he was partly right. The trouble is he didn't say enough or go far enough. There are a lot of details he left out. So, what are the basic things you should do if you're in a sales slump? Here are my top 5... 1) Call or go see you best clients. "Why?" You might be asking. After all they already love you. That's exactly the point. Because they already love you and your work, they'll remind you of how valuable and important what you do or offer is to them. If you're in a slump-- the first thing to go after your cash flow is your attitude. The quickest way to get your positive attitude working again is to talk to someone who loves what you do. After all-- we all love to be told how great we are. 2) Don't forget the power of "free" Start generating interest in your work by offering free talks, consultations and demonstrations of what you sell or offer. This way you'll start getting in front of people. And this leads me to my next point... 3) Increase your activities that are likely to lead to success... If you aren't currently enjoying the level of sales or income that you want--increase the number of activities that are likely to lead you to a potential client or customer. Call more prospective customers or clients. Send out more flyers to people who've bought from you before etc. As the saying goes, "don't just stand there, do something." 4) Barter: I don't talk about barter much even though I do some of it myself. But, if you can barter for other products or services that you want or need then you'll be generating momentum for your business and getting something you want or need in the process without it costing you any actual cash. 5) Make sure your sales process is functioning properly... For example, are your sales flyers actually getting to your potential customers or clients? Is your toll free number really redirecting your customers to you? Are all the links working on your web site? It's possible that your sales slump has nothing to do with you. Just send me the URL and a brief description - teri@reikione.com. I have been guilty of looking at others of my own age and thinking...surely I can't look that old...I'm sure you've done the same... While waiting for my first appointment in the reception room of a new dentist, I noticed his certificate, which bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered that a tall, handsome boy with that name had been in my high school class some 40 years ago. Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was too old to have been my classmate. After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended the local high school. "Yes," he replied. "When did you graduate?" I asked. He answered, "In 1957." "Why, you were in my class!" I exclaimed. He looked at me closely and then asked, "Really? What did you teach?" ~~Reader's Corner~~
Reiki Master. I passed many attunements while I was pregnant (but that's another story). It was my first pregnancy which is most remembered as being the longest and labor intensive (literally). I gave birth on the full moon, two weeks before my due date. Suspecting that I would give birth then, I had about 7 of my Reiki friends send Reiki and perform a birthing ritual by reciting a ritual I wrote and lighting a candle. I wanted a natural childbirth, and I was stuck with the hospital situation. I had no designated doctor or nurse, but I did have a written birth plan. They kind of laughed at my Bradley Method, but I persevered throughout my entire labor and remained mobile and snuck herbal teas, bee pollen and vibrational essences. By the 9cm. I was feeling exhausted. I really wanted to sleep and take a nap. Lying down seemed to slow my labor down and I couldn't get to that 10cms. My doula and husband, enabled me to standing and we took one more walk down those hospital aisles. The hospital staff had rarely seen such a sight. A woman moaning, feeling, becoming...a mom. My doula would give me Reiki during my contractions while my husband held my hand and stared into my eyes. I couldn't be touched. My water broke and there was fecal matter, so I was suddenly an emergency and had to push her out now! Ai yai yai! I had to fight to not be cut and to give birth naturally, but we did it. Amber hadn't swallowed any of the fecal matter but she wasn't breathing right away. I attribute it to the shock in having to be pushed so hard down the birth canal. I saw her and melted. They immediately took her away for evaluation. I started immediately sending her Reiki as did my doula. 1/2 hour later, I marched in the nursery and let Amber now I was there and started giving her Reiki. She immediately perked up and all of her vitals were normal. She just needed her Reiki momma. We've been inseparable ever since.

~~Reiki Experience~~
Taza: I am a Reiki II practitioner. My 1st Reiki attunement was in 1985, and my second was in 1996. Perhaps one reason I waited so long to go on with the study of Reiki is that I had an experience of sharing Reiki that unsettled me deeply. I was trading bodywork (I'm also a LMT) for African dance classes in the spring of 1990, working on the instructor. I went to work on her one day and she was complaining of uterine cramping. I gave Reiki on her abdomen and my hands got very hot, which in my experience usually indicates an area in need of healing. Two days later, she was in the hospital having an emergency hysterectomy. I visited her there and could tell that she thought I had precipitated the need for the surgery. I couldn't help but associate the two events in a cause-and-effect way in my head. For a long time I carried guilt over this occurrence. I stopped taking the dance class and lost touch with the teacher. Over the course of time, I told myself that Reiki does no harm, and that she may have been sicker without the Reiki treatment, but I think I still have some traces of the "I did this" mentality. Has anyone ever had a similar experience, and if so, how would you recommend that I heal this memory?

~~Up for Discussion~~
During a Reiki come back day we did just that - whether you use the Symbols or imagine that part of the world, doesn't make a difference - i did use the symbols this time because I happen to know them, and the rest was the same: I picture the whole middle east on the globe and draw a circle of white light; then I picture the USA and do the same; then I go to Europe (I came from Holland and trace her borders) and do the same -- going from continent to continent until the whole world is lit ... Our little blue planet in the Universe holding herself up in Light ...War is not just "there," but everywhere, because of the effect it has on all of us.

~~Growing your Reiki Practice~~
6) Go to work on setting some goals. Start setting some goals for your business and your life. Do what Mark Victor Hansen of "Chicken Soup for The Soul" fame suggests and set 101 goals in 20 minutes. Just sit down with a legal pad and start generating goals and dreams for yourself. This way you'll start getting motivated and inspired about possibilities again.
