~~Reflection~~ Teri Moore, editor & RMT
past few weeks.
this newsletter every week, as the time I had set aside for it became
consumed with house/yard chores. I know, from some of the emails I've
received, that some of you could set your clock by it (so to speak :o). In
other words, you KNEW it would be there, whether you wanted it or not . . .
. But, I'm letting all of you know that after next week, I'll be back on my
regular schedule of a WEEKLY ezine. Since I'll be gone next weekend, start
looking for the ReikiOne Newsletter September 22nd.
study down to the mountains of Southern Indiana (well, big hills anyway) to
do beginner level Feng Shui. This is one of those things I've grappled with
over the years. Every so often someone will ask if I 'do' Feng Shui (guess
it's assumed since I'm into energy work and I'm an interior designer). But
for some reason, I've been avoiding the whole concept of it like the plague
. . . . my husband finally convinced me there's a reason folks keep asking
(had like six people ask me within a three week period earlier this year)
and a reason why I feel blocked about it. Still feeling extreme opposition
on the inside, I ran a web search and found a school here in Indiana just
two hours from my house . . . with a beginner practitioner level class in
September. Before I could change my mind, I called in my credit card number
for the non-refundable deposit. Now that the time is coming for me to take
the workshop, I find I'm looking forward to it. The dread has slowly been
replaced with anticipation, particularly since I'm going to have some time
on my own (for you moms out there, you know this almost never happens).
you have a peaceful and loving two weeks, safely held in the healing hands
of the Universe.

~~Reader's Corner~~
agree with both you and Taggart King and have always believed that the
symbols were merely used as a focus to teach people how to bring in the
energy of Reiki. I further teach my Reiki students that it is the
connection from the heart and their intent to bring in the energy that makes
the biggest difference. Nine years ago when I brought Reiki to my Polarity
and Therapeutic Touch experience I made a gigantic leap forward and have
been flying high ever since. As far as not using the symbols I believe it is
in our best interest to continue using them or at least repeating them in
our minds for the purposes intended i.e. power, mental/emotional, long
distance, etc., as we work on others in spite of the fact that Reiki will go
wherever it is needed no matter our thought process. LOL, perhaps to make us
feel better? And I will continue using them with the attunements. I also
incorporate other symbols into my work, some that I have channeled and others
of Christian significance to me. Thank you for a great article.
regular application, for breathing. I know some practitioners say them
quickly, I however, intone them thereby adding breath/prana work and toning
and through visualization, colour therapy to the reiki session. I always
thought of this as Usui reiki until I met many practitioners who do not do
it this way. With so much secrecy about the symbols I cannot say who is
right or wrong, but I do not feel the session is the same without these
things. Otherwise what would be the differences between levels...just the
ability/ or intention to focus the energy for specific purposes? Anywho,
just thought I would share. I find it useful to meditate on each symbol and
ask it to teach me (gently) about it's aspects & meanings. I have also
found the symbols to be multi-dimensional. Intent is critical, but I would
suggest that exploration of the symbols is valuable. In my experience. they
are far more than simple
ON / OFF switches. I think it is tempting to dismiss them because they are
so beyond comprehension.
King's comments (8/11/02) regarding the use of Reiki symbols. In the
Amplified Reiki manual, we have stated (for three years) "Many Reiki
teachers instruct students that symbols must be memorized and drawn
precisely. We have been guided otherwise < what matters is one intention.
Many Reiki teachers instruct students that certain Japanese Kanji must be
spoken precisely as well. We have been guided otherwise < what matters is
one intention: we refer to these tools as the Power Symbol, The Emotional
Healing Symbol, and the Distance Healing Symbol. Throughout our experiential
and formal training, but predominantly due to Lightarian Reiki, we realized
that symbols are primarily focusing tools with no power in themselves. It is
the intention of the symbol that matters. Using these designations, in
English, assures clarity of intention." The Japanese language utilizes many
inflections, so the nuance in pronunciation is critical to the meaning of
what is being said. I've always wondered what *meaning* the symbols --
spoken in my southern (N.C.) drawl -- is truly conveying.

opinion, and response. Comments received will be published in the next

her first Reiki treatment. It was a wonderful treatment, she left feeling
good and looking forward to future Reiki treatments. I met up with her today
to find out that when she arrived home after her Reiki treatment she
experienced a severe
headache and nausea for the whole evening. The next morning she felt
slightly better. I have not experienced this with any other client. I have
always found Reiki to be very gentle in its healing. Has anyone else
experienced anything similar and what would have caused such a reaction?
attunements. For two days afterward, I had a huge thumping migraine.......I
had never had one so big before. My teacher explained that Reiki affects
people in different ways. She called this trial a 'healing crisis', saying
that my body was clearing away the things it didn't need anymore. She said
they were quite common after attunements and after the first or second
treatment people ever have. Some of my clients have mentioned flu-like
symptoms, headaches, sore eyes and deeper sleep following treatments.
after a reiki session that can last up to 72 hrs. You are right that these
are usually mild, often only mild fatigue! Yet, the process can be a little
rough akin to the cleanse after/during a good fast. Also, this process can
be emotional in nature and not just physical. It is a good thing. I like
to reassure my clients of this, but I do not go into details about it too
much as this can have a negative placebo effect. A follow up call the next
day to 'see' how things are going and answer any questions, is a good way to
address this issue.
after you work. I usually clear myself before I work so that I won't
"clutter up" the person as well. I speak to them about what happens when
they clear. I had one person get the runs for 20 minutes. Once the colon
cleared, the headache went away that the person had when they came to me.
Some are tired, some are energized. Some people experience a "healing
crisis" and unblock during treatment. The woman I worked on got asthma-like
symptoms while on her solar plexus. This occurred since the 3rd chakra was
blocked and causes her asthma to manifest. After we breathed and helped her
to release fear, she cried. I showed her some breathing exercises. After,
she really let lots of blocked emotions out and we talked after. It's
important to speak to the person before and after treatment. I also tell
them to CALL me if anything occurs. I remind them that their body is
clearing and to drink lots of water for two days after the reiki treatment.
About the Question: Hmmm. I do think permission should be granted to attune
anyone's child. Otherwise we are overstepping boundaries! No matter how well
meaning we are, free will must reign. Children are in the charge of parents.
I do think that sending a reiki treatment (after asking the child's higher
self) , or laying hands on the child is permitted on a hurt or disturbed
youngster; much in the way you would soothe a child who is crying.
hope...:) recently. It was her third treatment (the first totally ridding
her of chronic pain caused by arthritis in her shoulder, to the extent that
she no longer needed to take strong pain killers to relieve the pain - that
was an unreal experience for both of us). Anyways, I treated her again some
3-4 months after the first two treatments and she was VERY active on the
table. Her shoulders were jumping and moving quite forcibly, but she was
totally unaware when she got off the table that this had happened. After the
treatment she was really quite spaced out, a lot more than the first two
times. She went home and I discovered the next day that she was violently
ill that night, vomiting for most of the night. She told me she felt
absolutely wonderful once she had been sick but the next day she felt still
quite drained and not her normal bubbly self. The second day following
however she was on top of the world. I put it down to the 'issues' and
'gunk' going on inside coming to the fore and she released a lot of stuff. I
can only imagine how she must have been feeling BEFORE the treatment! It
hasn't put her off though...thankfully! The one thing I reinforce to my
clients is that Reiki is for their highest good, so whatever happens to
them, they must need it.
Reiki group and everytime she worked on me I experienced these symptoms.
Upon subsequent discussion with each member and then as a group, we found a
couple of possibilities: 1) Our personal energies were incompatible or 2)
attunement can also release toxins which may cause the aforementioned
physical response. With any type of healing I perform I always recommend
2-3 days of quiet rest after our first session. All aspects of the body are
undergoing toxic release. Water consumption is an absolute must, rest or
not. I find that alternating juice, sparkling water - plain or with lemon,
or purified water - plain or with lemon works well to flush ones system.
Some people do not tolerate acidity in juice form well, so I also recommend
the consumption of 1000 - 3000 MG of Vitamin C per day following the advice
of my naturopath. It is best to work up to it gradually - say 500mg
increase every two weeks, as it may cause increased urination and loose
stools. Per my experience, Acidic Acid flushes the system and DOES help
prevent illness. Bacteria do not thrive well in an acidic environment.
little embarrassing. I have had several Reiki sessions with 2 different
practitioners which I found very beneficial, however, last week I had a
Reiki session with a 3rd practitioner, whom I had never met before ( but
have been corresponding via email for over 6 months ) During the session, at
various different parts, I found it to be very erotic, this has never
happened before and I'm not sure whether to be ashamed about this, or to
accept the feelings. I have read many articles about Reiki but have never
come across any that associate Reiki with Sexuality. I am very confused
about my feelings of this experience and wonder if you or any of your
readers could shed any light on this matter.

~~Music/Book Review~~
reviewed by Libby McKnight
a chiropractor who went back to school for psychology when he saw that his
physical interaction with his patients tended to bring up "issues" they had
from the past that were "stored" in their bodies. He talks a lot about
working with survivors of abuse in this book and I really liked his protocol
for asking for permission to touch.
He also talked about people tending to have issues about either "separation"
or "bonding", which made a lot of sense to me. People may have difficulties
separating and letting go, or difficulties with connecting and letting in.
He
says this is usually based on something that happened at a very young age.
Dr. Ford lists, at one point, 17 different "somato-emotional" modalities and
points out how silly it is that practitioners compete with each other over
which is better. This really resonated with me! I love Reiki, and to me all
of this is about people connecting with themselves, each other and Spirit,
so
whatever modality promotes that connection, that's great! There is much more
to the book than I've covered here, I really recommend it.
I'll include it in the newsletter. Email your review to teri@reikione.com.
