confirm what I have found to be true for me - especially when the
conclusions differ dramatically from what I was taught years ago. Please

I think there are several important things to keep in mind. First, using
symbols does not make you less effective or advanced than another Reiki
practitioner or Master. I fear that those who consider themselves "beyond"
symbols will begin to see what they do as "beyond" Reiki. It is then easier
to forget the source of the energy. (I have seen this happen,
unfortunately). Secondly, some students are very visually oriented and the
symbols make a connection for them that they would otherwise find a
struggle. I have had more than a few students claim a personal resonance
with a symbol, and others who found that the whole thing just clicked when
they were introduced to the symbols. The students who come to you may be
from a variety of learning styles; I believe it important to ensure a good
understanding of the symbols with an explanation that they are keys to
unlock a particular thread or aspect of the Reiki energy. I tell them that
eventually they may not need to draw or visualize the symbol, but until then
it is a good practice. In that way, they can begin to sense the subtleties
of the energy. Finally, I find some symbols, Reiki and others, to be
personally meaningful. They are a visual connection with that which I
cannot see with my physical eyes -- and with Spirit itself. Do we need
them? Of course not. Are they wonderful and useful? Yes.

about the reiki symbols. I haven't taken a second level course yet but I
have seen the symbols. However, I was always thinking about how the symbols
are used or how "necessary" they are. Your article in your newsletter points
at the same issue too. I always think that reiki is a "superhuman"
existence... I mean, above the human level, right? That's the universal
energy and must have been existed before the human beings too...so how come
that "symbols" which are at "human level" (cause they can be drawn, that are
2 dimensional, human made...) can be an instrument for reiki? When we are
practicing Reiki by touching, we are using aura, energy, etc. so that we can
transfer energy but with the symbols that are "at the human level" how can
we control energy that is "beyond human level"??? I hope I made my self
clear by expressing symbols as "human made; 2 dimensional; which may not
have any meaning in "the other" dimensions... I have a lot of respect to all
issues about reiki, including the symbols...But I have, of course, some
questions in my mind too. I shall be pleased if you share more articles
about the symbols in your future issues too...

healing that I sent could be experienced even thought I knew I was cheating
somewhat because I had not memorized that symbol and did not have it with
me. I was told about intention when I was first attuned and I think that
may be more the key than the symbols. I now never use symbols, only the
names of them, and I know that the Reiki is working wonderfully. I am not
so sure that the names are even necessary. So really I just focus my
intention and positive thinking. It's a wonderful thing!

a chemist, and my father, who was a physicist. My dream was to go into
research and discover "the cure" -whatever that meant-hahaha. Along the
way, life happened, as it so often does, and I ended up in the corporate
world running the family business. It wasn't until I was in my early 40's
that I discovered Reiki and the world of energy on a conscious level and
then it took me another eight years of teaching and practicing before it
dawned on me that I had come full circle and had achieved the goal of my
childhood. I have truly discovered "the cure". It is so simple. It is
Reiki.

attuning children. I have attuned about 12 children aged 4 - 12 years, about
10 children aged 12 -14 years and lots of older children and adults. I have
found that the younger the attunee, the easier it is to attune. The symbols
literally glide / slip into their auras and chakra probably because their
channels are not blocked! It is a joy to attune the little ones! Also the
more issues the attunee has to clear, the harder it is to attune. I wonder
if others have had similar experiences?

knows all and flows to where it is needed, so why didn't this work? We were
assured by an energy healer type person that the person was attuned and all
was flowing. Your question brought to light that this adult has issues and
a lack of self-confidence in their deserving of energy healing abilities. I
have a granddaughter that is an Indigo Child and I wanted to attune her when
she was about 8 years old. The reason I didn't was that her parents don't
understand what all this energy stuff is about. Now that my granddaughter
is 12, I can see the stuff clogging up her aura and it will be a different
experience to attune her now. Yes I agree with you that peoples issues make
a difference, after all, isn't that what clogs up our energy flow and causes
dis-ease? QUESTION: Do we need permission from parents to attune their
children?
the younger the baby is are the easier they receive Reiki during a session.
Really young babies (a few days old )actually seem to take much more and
heaps easier Reiki than an adult's body without any blocked areas or other
disturbances. Additionally some people seem to sense in a way that I can
give Reiki and they take it unconsciously without my intent. Some probably
feel the same. And this always happens with very young babies. But it is
very rewarding to see them relax and enjoy their right. ;)
her first Reiki treatment. It was a wonderful treatment, she left feeling
good and looking forward to future Reiki treatments. I met up with her today
to find out that
when she arrived home after her Reiki treatment she experienced a severe
headache and nausea for the whole evening. The next morning she felt
slightly better. I have not experienced this with any other client. I have
always found Reiki to be very gentle in its healing. Has anyone else
experienced anything similar and what would have caused such a reaction?

"Waking Life". It was filmed of actual people, then enhanced via computer to
do really creative imaging with the backgrounds in motion as well. It is
philosophical about a fellow who wants to wake up but keeps waking up into
another dream. lots of flying and floating about. Many insights of "waking
up". I found it intriguing.
